How to transfer shuffle to my new laptop?

Can someone give me SIMPLE step-by-step instructions for how to switch from using my desktop computer to a new laptop for keeping my ipod shuffle updated? As you all know, iTunes on a second computer will either erase everything on the shuffle, or the shuffle isn't recognized. I'm sure there's a solution, but I haven't found one.

There isn't one. If you're going to be running the iPS from the second computer you may as well just bite the bullet and make the change; you can quickly re-load from your desired playlists in the new iTunes.

My powerbook was stolen. I have noew a replacement but when i plug in the 30 gb ipod it tells me ts the wrong computer. How can I get the new computer to be "the one" the ipod can recognise. I imagined you could go into your account and transfer by providing certain information, but perhaps that was naive of me.
Can anyone assist me - There has to be a way!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iRepo Mac & Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Will I be able to fit multiple Sims 3 games on my new MacBook Pro/how to transfer ALL music to new laptop?

I'm receiving a new MacBook Pro for the next school year. I really would like to know if the Sims 3 base game, Late Night and Generations plus a bunch of extra custom content would fit on my computer and still run fast/without problems? Also, I really must know how to move every bit of music from iTunes and other music purchases from other music databases onto my new computer.
I hope this is enough information.
    Thank you so much!

If formatted NTFS, your Mac can read, but not write to the drive.

okay so I have a new ipod touch...but I need to get music out of my old nano to my itues w/out wiping out my old nano...how do i do this? new laptop so itues is new...please help

You need to authorize your new computer in iTunes with the same account that is synced to your nano (and old iTunes)
In the menu bar click Store >> Authorize This Computer…
This will allow your purchased music to be re-downloaded from iTunes and played on your new computer.
If you did not purchase the music through iTunes, you may need a third-party program to get the music off the nano. However, It is much easier (by far) to move your old library from your old computer to the new one if you still have access to the old files. iTunes will not transfer music from your nano to the computer. It is a one-way sync.
If you still have access to your old files, search google for how to transfer an itunes library, and follow someones instructions. It's not too complicated. You may want to specify mac to pc, pc to mac, mac to mac, or pc to pc, as the instructions will change.

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back

  • HT1329 My old computer crashed.  How do I sync my Shuffle with my new laptop?

My old laptop crashed -- it does not boot up and the monitor is blank.  I bought a new laptop with Windows 8, downloaded iTunes and connected my ipod nano.  How do I get them to sync?  All of the music on the nano is downloaded from cds (not purchased from itunes store) and I did not have cloud service.  The instructions online all say I have to make changes to the nano using my old computer, but that's no longer an option.  Any advice?

It does not matter what the settings are for your iPod.  iTunes syncing generally works in one direction only, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library

  • Am syncing my iPhone 4 to a new laptop. It will not allow me to transfer music from this new laptop/iTunes to my phone. Why? And how do i fix this?

    Hi there,
    I have a new laptop.
I have music on my laptop that I have not purchased through iTunes (ie, uploaded CD's, copied to my laptop from my old computer, etc).
For some reason, iTunes will not allow me to transfer this music to my iPhone. I get the "red circle with the cross through it" symbol when I try to drop it into the iPhone..
Can someone suggest a way that I can oversome this and add my music to my phone from my new computer?
At this stage, I can only add music to it via the old iTunes/old computer that the phone was originally synced to.
    Cheers

  • How to transfer music to a new computer (PC)?

Simple question, I'm hoping for a simple answer. I've just purchased a new laptop PC and want to transfer my music to it. Is there an easy way to do this? All I can seem to find are some really convoluted steps to making this happen. And if I take the iPod to an Apple store will they do it for me?

*I've just purchased a new laptop PC and want to transfer my music to it. Is there an easy way to do this?*
Do you want to transfer the iTunes library from the original computer or just copy the music from the iPod? Some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes library from one computer to another (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch). You can adapt this method for use with a regular external drive: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

Since copying non iTunes purchases requires third party software I would doubt it very much.

  • HT1329 My old computer crashed but still have my IPOd with old music. How to transfer the music into new computer which has already music in it?

My old computer crashed and I still have my music in an IPod. How to transfer the music/playlists into a new computer which has already music in it? (Not possible to copy ITunes of old computer in IPod)
    Thanks

Lucky for you, I just found out how to get the music stored on your iPod by messing around with it. I'm not much of an Apple user (I only have a shuffle), so I'm not 100% sure it would work the same way as yours.. but it's worth a shot.
if your iTunes didn't sync with your iPod yet,... that would be great..
1, Make sure your iTunes does not automatically sync with your iPod (I don't know if this would help..)
2, Click on your iPod and go to settings, check "Enabe Disk Use"
Your iPod should now have a partition on My Computer called AFJCHAW's IPOD or whatever you named your iPod... If you go to that disk, you'll notice there's nothing in there.
3, Click on Organize at the top right part of Windows Explorer(Windows 7, don't know how in XP..), go th the Folder and search options, view tab, and click on show hidden files, folders, and drives.
If you go back to your disk, you should be able to find a folder
4, It'll be pretty straightforward then. Go to iPod_Control/Music. You'll find folders there. Inside the folders are each of your music files (they're renamed but the Details would still be about the same).
If you did get your music files back from this procedure, then, yay! it worked!!
If you didn't,.... it should've worked..

  • Transferred my Library to new laptop, but how to associate/sync iPhone with new laptop?

I got a new laptop. The old laptop is still working. I transferred my library using the Home Sharing method and all of my items were moved except my apps. I plugged in my iPhone to the new computer and used "Transfer Purchases from iPhone" option and all of my apps were added to the library. But, now I don't know how to associate the iPhone with the new computer. When I plug in my iPhone to the new computer. It starts to sync. It says steps 1 through 3, spins for 20 seconds and says complete, but nothing was done. I do not get the "this iPhone is associated with another library" message when I plug it in to new computer, perhaps because I've authorized both computers. All I can find in my searches is how to avoid losing all of your data and how to transfer your library, but none has dealt with this exact situation. I am stumped as to how to get iPhone associated with new computer. Can I transfer my backup from the old computer and restore from backup? Other thoughts? Sorry if the answer is somewhere (I'm sure it is), but I have spent two days looking.

Randers4, so I carefully followed the directions (only one that confused me was about adding a fake address/calendar entry, is that for Macs, I'm using a PC?.)  I restored it from the backup and everything looked good. I had hope, the final step says to sync it and when I did, I had the exact same problem. It spun, went quickly through only 3 steps (even though there were 7 sync steps with my old laptop) and nothing changed. It clearly didn't sync.
So, I had an idea that I would back up everything by right clicking in the left pane and forcing a back up on the new computer, and then erasing the entire phone and then restoring from the backup I just made to see if that would make a difference. So, after I tried that and it restored, it was weird. All of my settings were there. Some folders were there, my pictures were there, but all of my apps, folders, music and video was missing and it still wouldn't sync. So, then I had to plug it back into my old laptop and do a restore from there to get that stuff back.
Shouldn't I get a message when I plug the iPhone into the new laptop saying this phone is connected to another computer? I tried "Reset Warning Messages" but it doesn't do anything. At this point, I don't care if I lose some of the stuff from my iPhone (texts, etc)...but I want it to sync to the new computer because my old laptop is on its death bed.
So frustrating, all of my iTunes content is on the new computer, the only piece that is missing is getting it to "talk" to the iPhone. Times like this I wish I wasn't a poor teacher and could afford to get a nice Mac laptop.
