How to transfer songs and sync iPod?

My iTunes was over capacity, so I unchecked a lot of songs and my movies from the iTunes library. But before I did that, I had bought some songs on my iPod. I can't transfer those songs on to my iTunes library (on my laptop) because it still thinks it is over capacity, because I haven't synced it yet. But I can't sync it because if I do, I will lose those songs that haven't been transferred yet.
I've tried to transfer the songs and sync my iPod but it won't finish the backing up process. What should I do?

On my old iPOD I've collected songs for various libraries (from friends and my two computers) but stupid iTUNES won't let me transfer my songs from this iPOD back to Library.
So, now when I've got a new a iPOD, I have to put all the songs there again, because iTUNES again won't let me transfer songs from one iPOD to another iPOD, when both are connected to the same computer!!
What should I do?

I have three ipods - iPod #1 has only been synced to iTunes. I want to transfer songs from iPod #2 to iPod #3 without having all of the existing iTunes from iPod #1 getting synced to iPod #3. How do I upload iPod #2 to iTunes and keep it isolated, and then sync only thos songs to iPod #3?
I can not figure out how to upload the songs to my Library without losing them in the muck of the thousands of other songs that are already in the Library.
I am a new user but I find that navigating iTunes is extremely non-user friendly...

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

I don't have a Touch or anything, but I'd imagine that you'd first need to connect your old ipod to your computer and get all your songs into your itunes from there. unless they're all already on your itunes. then just connect the iTouch and reload it.
of course...I don't know if it's possible to import all your songs from iPod to computer, I've never had to do that.

All of my music files are on my external hard drive. I moved my itunes media folder to my external hard drive. I have 150 gig of music and only 25 gig free on my macbook, so I'd like to put it all on my ipod without putting it on my computer, as there isn't enough memory. Every time I try to move the music from my external hd to itunes it starts adding music to my computer's internal hard drive- i thought this would be solved by having my media library in my external hd but it isn't I'm not sure how to get around this. I've already followed the directions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449 but it didn't accomplish what I wanted: For all my music to show up in itunes, and be able to sync my ipod to it, without the music being on my computer's internal hd. I have a macbook.

this is another solution to the most common problems lately, check it out
1: i certify that this solution works with windows XP, don't attempt to try it on macs cuz i dunno what could happen
2: go to my PC, right click your iPod, select explore
3: set WinXP to show all hidden files and folders, you should now see a new folder named "iPod_Control", double click it
4: in the folders inside "iPod_Control" there's one called "Music", double click it
5: you should now see thousands of folders named like F01, F02, F03, etc..., inside those folders there's your music, COPY not cut and paste all those folders on my docs folder or other location where you can easily find them later...
6: now, go to iTunes and click file - add folder to library, select all of the foldes copied and click add
7: iTunes will now show all your media contained on your iPod on the library, except for movies, games and photos
thats it, i recommend that you set up iTunes to copy all added files to your iTunes music folder, in that way, you'll have the songs on a folder that is easier to handle and that after done the job, cosolidate your library for better results
i'm workin on a way to extract also the movies and photos

if you dont have itunes installed, WinXP will recognize the iPod without a problem doesnt matter
about the auto-update, itunes will only do this if its set up to do it so when you install itunes and recognizes the ipod, and is set up to auto-update, it will prompt you to do so, click no so you can save your files on it

I've already transferred the purchased songs to the new itunes library. I'm just having trouble getting the rest of the songs, that are from my old itunes library, onto my new computer. I don't know if this matters or not, but I have a 2nd generation ipod, and I'm using a PC.

Have two ltunes libraries on my computer both using same account. how do i transfer library 1 on to library 2 and sync ipod with library 2 it already synced with library 1, the reason for both libraries is library 1 is not allowing access to itunes store.
