How to transfer songs from ipod to library

I am trying to transfer songs from my old ipod to my library and get them on a new ipod. How do I do this? I am so confused

If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod2PC Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How to transfer songs from ipod to your library

hi, sorry to bring up a new question, but recently i have restored my computer and accidently forgot to burn the paid songs from my library to a cd. the songs are still on my ipod, but for some reason it won't let me transfer those songs back to my library. is there anyway to retrieve my lost songs back to my library?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Is there ANY way to transfer songs from ipod to library???

I have an Ipod mini, and I have received about 200 songs from 3 or 4 of my friends libraries, but now I can't put those songs in MY library. I really want to burn some of them onto cd's etc etc in case my ipod goes down, but the songs need to be from your LIBRARY. Is there ANY way to do this (trick, program, accessory, etc??)
If not, is there any way to burn songs from ipod to a cd?? I want to get a support together in case my computer or ipod break. Thank you!!
By the way, obviously I have Windows. Its XP to if that helps.

  • How To Transfer Songs From iPod to iTunes Library

How do I transfer songs already on my iPod to my iTunes library?

With the iTunes software, you cannot do this, for copyright and piracy reasons. However, there is software available on the Internet that allow this function.
    This is a popular one:

If you don't like this one, Google search, and you'll find bunches of results.

  • New computer need to transfer songs from ipod to library

My old computer crashed and it had all of my songs in its library. I have those songs on my ipod but now i am trying to put them on my new computer's itunes library. What can I do?

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
If your iPod is set to automatically update, when you connect you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual. Your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • How to transfer songs from Ipod to a New Computer?

    Hey guys
How can I transfer Ipod music to a new computer? My old computer crashed, and My itunes folders are gone.

There is an ez way to do this without any programs at all. All you have to do is this: Plug in your iPod and double click my computer. Now click "tools>folder options." In the window that appears, click the "view" tab. Now there should be an option that says "show hidden files and folders." Select that option and click ok. Now open up ur ipod directory. There should be a semi-transparent folder along with the other folders in your ipod directory (Calendar, Contacts, Images, etc.) Open this folder and then open the "Music" folder. Displayed here are a number of folders called "F30" or 31, 32, 33 and so on. In these folders are all your song files on ur iPod. If you save these folders onto your computer you will be able to save them into your itunes library. If the music file names were changed, the information displayed in itunes should still be the same for all the songs and if you had album art it still should be there. After you save your music onto your computer, i suggest that you go back to the folder options and hide the hidden folders again, because some hidden files on the computer are necessary for the computer to run and may be accedentally deleted if still visible, causing the computer to not function correctly. And that is all there is to it. There is no programs needed for this simple process.

  • Cant Figure Out How To Transfer Songs From iPod back to PC????

I recently got a different computer which I have installed iTunes on and it recognizes my iPod right away but I cant figure out how to get the songs and files from the iPod onto this computer, I'm assuming since its a different computer... so right now it seems like I'm unable to change songs around on my iPod and if I cleared the iPod I'd no longer have any of my songs since they were also on my old computer which is long gone. Your Help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

There are a few third party utilities which allow you to back up your ipod and mirror it with your itunes. I use podutil http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php you can dl it for free and put up with annoying nag screens or part with £10. I have used a couple of time to rebuild my itunes play list etc (and video) and it works a treat. However it does not backup your notes/contacts/calendar...

  • How to transfer songs from iPod Nano to 3GS iPhone

I have a problem-I recently purchased a new notebook. When I connect my Nano to the itunes web site I can see under devices my songs and audio books are available.I then try to connect up a new iphone that has just been purchased and after configuring it for the computer and account i can not get the songs and audio books downloaded to it.
I was wondering if I needed to save the songs to the library first on the new computer as they are not showing as being there.
I have downloaded all updated software to the computer and iPhone.

Syncing of iTunes media content (music, videos, etc.) is one-way - from the computer to the iPhone. Anything you want to transfer to the iPhone must be in your iTunes Library.

If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How to transfer songs from one iPod to another?

I have three ipods - iPod #1 has only been synced to iTunes. I want to transfer songs from iPod #2 to iPod #3 without having all of the existing iTunes from iPod #1 getting synced to iPod #3. How do I upload iPod #2 to iTunes and keep it isolated, and then sync only thos songs to iPod #3?
I can not figure out how to upload the songs to my Library without losing them in the muck of the thousands of other songs that are already in the Library.
I am a new user but I find that navigating iTunes is extremely non-user friendly...
    Thank you!

Haven't you got your songs in iTunes? Just connect your new one and it will update from your Library.
However if you have deleted them from the PC, there are a number of third party utilities that can retrieve the files from your iPod.
