How to transfer with thunderbolt from iMac to MacBook Air?

I have a new MacBook Air and I'm trying to migrate files from my iMac over a Thundertbolt connection. It doesn't work. Anyone else have this problem?

You have not told us which versions of OS X either machine is running.
Assuming both are running Mavericks (as they should be), this describes how to migrate using Thunderbolt:

  • How to transfer iTunes library from iMac to macbook pro?

i recently got a macbook pro but all of my music is on my imac. how do i transfer the music?

Click on the Music item in the Finder's sidebar. You'll see an iTunes folder inside. Move this to the same location on the other computer via a network, an external drive, or FireWire Target Disk mode as desired.

  • How can I transfer Microsoft package from iMac to Macbook air

I hope this is answered ASAP

The easiest way is to use the original install disks, always assuming that your version of whatever application/s you refer to are compatible with Lion.

I'd like to transfer the photos from iPhone to MacBook Air. My iPhoto used to detect my iPhone automatically, but it doesn't happen anymore. How could I fox this? Thanks for helping!

    Check the iPhoto preferences:
From the main menu bar:  iPhoto > Preferences > General:
"Connecting camera opens"  : Set this option to  "iPhoto".
If that does not help, disconnect your iPhone and reset your iPhone.
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Cant delete recurring event from iMac to Macbook Air

I Cant delete recurring event from iMac to Macbook Air.
I have an event scheduled for Wednesday each week, I delete it at end of day. If i delete it on my Macbook Air it deletes fine on my iMac just fine. But if i delete it on my iMac first it stays on my Macbook Air...
I check the preferences and both computers are configured the same way..
It use to work before i upgraded both computers to Yosemite...

Yes and no. AirDrop is used to send a file from one computer to another. A Contact isn't a file so AirDrop isn't the best way to move contacts from one computer to another. If you own both an iMac and MBA and want to keep the two computers synced, the easiest way is to create an iCloud account on both computers. Any calendar event, to do, contact, or note you create on one will sync to the other. If you just bought a MBA and want to move data to it from your iMac you should use Apple's migration assistant. Personally I think the easiest way to migrate is to perform a backup of the old computer to a USB external drive using TimeMachine and then connect the TimeMachine to the new computer and use Migration Assistant.
But can you exchange contacts using AirDrop? Yes. Select the contact(s) you want to transfer, export them as vcards to a temporary folder. Then AirDrop the folder to your MBA. Now run Contacts and then drag the vcards onto the Contacts program icon in the Dock.

  • How to use Lightroom from iMac and Macbook Air so that I can edit any/all photos in my catalog?

I have lightroom catalog setup on my desktop (iMac).  But, I would like to edit photos from my new MacBook Air when I have the free time.  How do I set this up so that any edits done on my laptop sync with my desktop catalog?

    Craig:
In the future you might look into an external FW hard drive from which you can operate the library.  Then, if you need to move it to another machine just unplug the drive and and plug it in to the other Mac.  For the MacBook Air you'd probably want a small (physical size) buss powered drive that would be an easy travel mate.
For future projects, particularly books, consider creating a separate library for it.  You can assemble the photos you want in it in an album in your primary library and use iPhoto Library Manager to copy that album to the project library.  They are often small enough that then can be copied to a flash drive for transfer to other Macs.

  • The HD had to be replaced on my MacBook Air (2009). It already had Lion, after Snow Leopard. Everything is backed up by the Time Capsule. After installing completely Lion anew, how do I transfer my data from TC to MacBook Air? basic, no?

I add: I had to re-install the original DVD (OS X 10.5.8), then upgrades, then snow (OS 10.6.8), then Lion (10.7). Now, I just need the explanation for how to put back my data onto the MacBook Air. Preferrably by ethernet. I did it once by wireless, 30 hours (and caused total blue screen, and total start over). Thanks!

  • Keynote slides shrunk after moving from iMac to MacBook Air

After moving a Keynote (6.5.3) presentation from my iMac to MacBook Air, the slides have shrunk WAY down. Check out this image. Any thoughts on why this should happen?

Here you go, it's just an option you need to turn on

I love Lion, it's been problem free and it has so many useful features (Air Drop for one, multi screen on the MBA for another). I think as with all things that sell on the scale Lion has, some people will always be disappointed and some will always have problems. I am happy to say neither were issues for me and I wouldn't go back to SL now.

  • How to transfer files from imac to macbook air

I recently received my macbook air and I was trying to transfer iWork to my new macbook.
Typically, I have no problems in the transfer process when I have done this before from my iMac to my Powerbook. And now, with the Macbook Air, my iMac tells me that the device isn't connected to the Macbook Air....but it IS showing that it is discovered.
    Sounds very confusing, I know.
I just need to know how to transfer Pages to my Macbook Air from my iMac.
If anyone can help, PLEASE DO!
    Thanks!

How can I transfer some  photos from iPhoto on iMac Desktop to iPhoto on MacBook Pro?

We're talking some photos? You can export them from iPhoto to a USB flash drive form the iMac and import them into iPhoto on the MBP. That's one way.
