How to "trash" something that won't delete..

I have a "Word Work File D-1.tpm" on the desktop that won't allow me to trash it. When I drag it to the trash, I get the message that the item can't be moved to the trash, as it can't be deleted.....how do I get rid of the d-mn thing????

Try putting the item in the trash and hold the alt (option) key as you try to empty trash.
If that doesn't work, put it in the trash, log out and then log back in and then try to empty trash.
If all that fails download this: http://trash-it.mac.findmysoft.com/ - that should do it.

Right or control click the folder then click Get Info

Nevermind! I right-clicked on the application and clicked force quit and it worked! That's all I had to do!

It took about an hour to upgrade my iphone. You're also left a couple of times with a blank screen on the iphone whilst it does things in the background which is a bit confusing. Suggest you wait - it starts doing things again (like reload your apps and then your photos etc) after you think it's finished. It's finished only when it says it is.....

Files that won't delete! Help!

I have about 9 files that continually show up on my desktop everytime I turn my computer on. They're all video files (wmv and quicktime). I asked the Mac Genius' and they said to hold down the Option key and hit Secure Empty Trash and that they would be gone for good - only not so much. If I try to delete the files normally, it says that they are currently in use by a program. If I try to open them, it says file not found. Any clue as to what's going on, or how I can get rid of these???

One thing you can try is to open TextEdit and save a file using the same name as the file you are trying to delete. When asked if you want to Replace the existing file click Yes. Now try deleting the file. If this works do the same for the other files.

Files that won't delete

I have a multitude of files that will not delete for any reason whatsoever. When I try and open them the message "can't be opened because the original item can't be found" and the following options occur "Delete Allias", "Fix Allias", and "OK". I've tried to delete the allias as well as fix the allias but nothing seems to happen. The main reason I'm trying to delete these files is because they are taking up a lot of space. Any and all help would be fantastic as I have no idea how to go about this anymore>

With the current iTunes version, there is no Sync Apps selection.
For an app in your iTunes library that is currently installed on your iPhone that you don't want on your iPhone, you can select Remove foir the app under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync. Below the Apps window under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect Automatically install new apps if selected.
To prevent apps downloaded direct with your iPhone from being downloaded with iTunes on your computer, at the iTunes menu bar on your computer go to iTunes > Preferences > Store. Below Automatic Downloads, deselect Apps if selected.

I am not able to delete all the bookmarks that I select to delete by clicking on the star. Most that won't delete seem to be in the unsorted bookmark category. I have tried many times and they just won't delete. What can I do.?

When I follow the directions about deleting bookmarks by clicking on the bookmark, then clicking on the blue star and then clicking on delete bookmark, it will work with some but not all my bookmarks. I have noticed that the ones that won't work appear to be marked in unsorted bookmarks rather than bookmarks menu.
I have tried many different ways to delete these bookmarks but nothing works. Some of these bookmarked pages need to be signed in and I no longer have a way to sign in or want to sign in.

Apps that won't delete???

I have an uptodate ipad mini and I want to delete all the apps on it and start again. I can delete most of them by making them shake then by clicking the cross but there are some that won't go in this way no matter what I do. These apps are not even installed - they are translucent and don't work on it anyway.
Also when I connect my ipad to my itunes and click on the 'will install' to stop it from installing automatically then click 'apply' it just reverts back to the will installl and stays on the ipad in a translucent icon! It won't even install so I can remove it.
Any ideas? Help would be appreciated as I have spent most of the day on this and am starting to go bonkers!

If you want to start over use Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.

How can I delete a email that I created that won't delete

I have created an email in Mac Mail 7.3, I decided I did not want to send it, so I trashed it.
I continues to show up in DRAFTS, I have 'sent to trash', I have erase deleted items under Mailbox's
I have done more that I can't remember but I haven't been able to get rid of this one email.
Where is it, how do I delete it

I did not do that because before I got your tip Eric this is what I did 4 hours ago,
I opened up the draft email from ****,
I deleted all content in it since it's a week old,
I added some new type of gibberish (most of what I write is such) and saved it,
there gibberish was in drafts
I selected the drafts folder and then selected gibberish and deleted it.
I have not seen it again, as of yet, as I said, that was 4 hours ago.

I can't empty the trash I have three different versions of Quicken Essentials that should have been deleted and also some iskysoft apps [two ]. I tries to delete them but I always get a -8003 error. I ve tried using the terminal with both the sudo and chflags methods. No effect. Can anyone give a method that would work to delete the five? In advanced appreciation.

MMore than likely these photos were sync from your bboyfriend or his ex computer. You won't be able to delete those pictures unless they unsync them from their computers. You can try restoring your phone as new to remove those pics

After updating to 3.6.14 there are shortcuts on the desktop that won't delete. How do I delete them?

I was prompted to update my fire fox to 3.6.14. After doing it, there were 4 shortcuts on my desktop. I have tried deleting them but get a message saying "cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk."

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Or Quit the mail app.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Go back to mail and see if it is fixed.
