How to "trim original" video in iOS?

When iOS first came out I remember there being an option to "trim original" video where the entire video would be replaced with only the part that you wanted to keep (the trimmed parts of the video would be deleted permanently). You also had the option to "save as new clip" which would keep both the original video and a new file with the trimmed parts removed.
Where has the "trim original" feature gone? It does not show up in the latest version of iOS 8 but it is still referenced in the iPhone User Guide for iOS (see attached picture).
The picture below shows the options I get when attempting to trim a video in iOS 8. You can see that the only option I get is to save as a new clip.

I think I just figured out the answer... If iCloud Photo Library is turned on, I only get the option to save as a new clip. Thus, trimming video creates two files that take up cloud storage (for which Apple charges if you want more than 5 GB). If I disable iCloud Photo Library, the option to trim original returns. If this is intentional on Apple's part, it is very clever of them to try to get people to fill up their iCloud storage faster. Of course you just go back and delete the original if you don't want it, but this extra step seems unnecessary when Apple operating systems are supposed to be "intuitive" and "just work."
Apple, please add the "trim original" feature for those who have enabled iCloud Photo Library. There is no reason this should be any different with iCloud Photo Library enabled other than to try to trick people into filling up their iCloud storage (and subsequently paying for more) faster.

  • How to view local videos on iOS mobile device

    How do I view local videos on my iOS device running an Adobe Air app? I know how to view the CameraRoll for iOS in Flex on Adobe Air, but the CameraRoll class only brings up photos, no videos.  When I use:
    if (CameraRoll.supportsBrowseForImage) {
                                                      var roll:CameraRoll = new CameraRoll();
                                                      roll.browseForImage();
                                            } else {
      trace("Camera Browsing not available");
    The cameraRoll instance that is brought up only shows photos, no videos.  Any ideas?

    +1  I need this as well.
    It looks like it's simply not available in CameraRoll - is support planned?  What are other possibilities - File?  Navtive extension?
    Would AIR even be able to play typical phone video formats?  From a quick search, it seems that the iPhone captures h.264 in a mov container, while at least one Android phone captures MPEG-4 in a 3gp container.  I'll try transferring such videos to my computer and embedding them in a test app just to see if they play.
    Thanks for any insight!
    ETA: The docs for NetStream list h.264 and 3gp as supported formats.  From my testing, however, NetStream does play the iPhone .mov file, but does not play the Android .3gp file.  A Loader plays neither.

  • I can not Trim Original Video Clip

    There used to be two options when trimming a video,"Trim original and T"Save as New Clip", for some reason I'm not seeing the option to trim the original video. What happened, did I change the settings in my Icloud, or has this feature been removed?
    I have an IPhone 6 plus with all updates with the largest capacity. at the time.

    Wondering myself-the option just disappearEd and is a minor annoyance.

  • How to view original video files from my Canon Vixia

    Hi -
    I have a Canon Vixia camcorder and I cannot find a way to view the original mts files on my iMac.  I hate to say this, but my old windows laptop to does this without any issue, so that's what I'll continue to do until something changes.
    When I mount the camera on my Mac, it only shows one giant AVCHD file.  I have read the posts about using iMovie to import the AVCHD file and then export the individual clips, but frankly that ***** for a few different reasons that I don't really feel the need to explain.
    Why does Mac not allow me to simply view the files as they are on the camera?  I don't edit with iMovie, I edit with Premiere and the original mts files are just fine with me.  I love my iMac and all my other Apple products, but let me view my files! ...please?
    Thanks
    Joey

    AVCHD utilizes a proprietary container format. The MTS files are in there, you just have to know where to look.
    Navigate to the root directory of the memory card. You should see a rather large (depending on how many clips are on there) file called PRIVATE. You need to right-click that and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the file AVCHD, right-click it and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the file BDMV, right-click it and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the folder STREAM and open it. You should find the MTS files there.

  • Trimming a video vlip in Original format

    Hello,
    How can one trim a video clip with the original settings? The new movie is so much larger than wanted. I tried to trim a movie file (AVI) of 1,4 MB and the trimmed file was 68 MB!! Can't you just preset the trimming process so that the produced file is smaller than the actual file? (sounds logical??!!)
    Everytime I open iMovie HD it says that I have to save the project as a .iMovieProject or something. Has this got to do anything with the large end result?

    Everytime I open iMovie HD it says that I have to save the project as
    a .iMovieProject or something.
    Please say more about that. Normally we just open a project, do some editing, and choose File > Save. iMovie HD doesn't ask to assign a new name.
    You probably should say exactly what happens.
    Is this a project that was begun in iMovie HD or some earlier version of iMovie?
    iMovie HD converts all imported movies to the DV (Digital Video) format, which is large. (iMovie HD is a digital video editor.) If the imported movie was a compressed movie, it can grow quite a lot larger. That is normal.
    When our editing is complete we can, if we want, share (export) the iMovie HD project to a QuickTime movie that is compressed. Lots of codecs (compressors/decompressors) are available.

  • How do i start video and audio at the same time in ios

    How do i start video and audio at the same time in ios?
    I have tried a lot of different ways but i cant figure it out?
    I can get the sound and animation (timeline) to start playing.
    There is no problem to start the video and the animation at the same time.
    But i cant get both the video and the audio to start playing when i press a button.
    It works great in OSX and on windows?
    Here is an example:
    // insert code for mouse click here
    // Play an audio track
    sym.$("_1")[0].play();
    // Play a video track
    sym.$("host")[0].play();
    // Play the timeline at a label or specific time. For example:
    // sym.play(500); or sym.play("myLabel");
    sym.play("marker1");

    If the game has sound in it (and possibly even if it doesn't) it may be overriding the Music app and causing it to stop playing - in which case there is nothing that you can do about it.

  • Exported video size smaller than original video size. How do I keep the original size?

    I exporting a video from Adobe Premiere CS6 today, and I noticed the video was about 1/2 times smaller  than the original video I put in. I then uploaded the video on YouTube, and the size was still the same. I tried to change the preset to 1080p 29.97, 1080p 25, etc. and the same with 720p, and 480p, but the size only changed slightly.

  • How does the original iPad mini perform on iOS 8?

    I have been thinking about getting a new iPad from the iPad 2. I know the original iPad mini and the iPad 2 have similar specs, but the real upgrade I get from it is the wireless technology and the ability to use Handoff. Overall, how does the original iPad mini handle iOS 8? Should I go with that iPad or get the iPad mini 2? I wouldn't get the iPad mini 3 because I don't think Touch ID is necessary for what I want to do on an iPad.
    Overall, I am wondering how iOS 8 performs on the original iPad mini so it can help me choose between the original or the iPad mini 2. Thanks in advance for your input!

    Get the mini 2 when the prices come down. The mini 2 is baically a smaller iPad Air. The improvements over the mini are well worth the money.

  • How can I add photos to a video without interrupting the sound of the original video?

    In PE11, How can I add photos to a video without interrupting the sound of the original video?

    RLHeflin
    Thanks for getting your details posted. Good job.
    You further explained
    I am simply wanting to “overlay” a new visual element without disturbing the underlying audio.
    A classical way to do a Premiere Elements Overlay is to hold down the Ctrl key of the computer main keyboard and drag the new clip over the area of the one you want to replace on the Timeline. That should not do anything but replace one portion of the video on the Timeline. No change in duration video or audio track if you are dealing with video linked to audio.
    If you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, I am envising a scenario where you want to add to (not replace) some Timeline content.
    A just in case note, if you have video on Video 1 and 2 and the video in 2 does not have transparent areas in it, then all you will see is the Video 2 content. I believe that Hunt eluded to that concept as a possible technique for what you might be doing.
    Another just in case, if you have not seen the following Adobe documentation on arranging clips, you might be interested in the following link

  • How to sync captured JPEG to original video: Are there some Develop settings that won't transfer?

    I'm starting with the corrected JPEG and then highlighting the original video so they are both selected, but the JPEG settings are not applied to the video when I Sync Settings -- things like color, sharpening, and noise reduction.

    SInce I don't see how to delete my question, I'll answer it.
    My first syncs were from Quick Develop. After I made more adjustments in Develop I forgot to add them to the sync list. But, now that I'm doing it over, I see that anytime I have a video included  in the set to sync, noise reduction, sharpening, and other settings aren't available (grayed out). Which says to me: if the sdjustments aren't available when a video is open in Quick Development, then they can't be made.
    It's nice that we can get good-lucking captured JPEG frames, but I thought the whole idea was supposed to be a work-around, where further adjustments COULD be made to videos by syncing to the JPEGS. As this was one of the main reasons I upgraded to LR4 immediately (because I had a pending video project), I'm quite disappointed to find LR4 is still so limited in its video processing capabilities!

  • How to restore original Premiere Pro CC interface and how to drag video to timeline panel?

    The trial version I downloaded does not have the video and audio tracks on the timeline panel. I tried playing around to find them but this is what happened instead.
    May I know how to restore the original interface?
    Also, how do I drag videos to the timeline panel when it does not have any audio or video track line that I can work with, unlike the CS6 version I was using?
    Thank you.

    Hi Erica,
    To restore:
    From the menu items choose  Window > Workspace> Reset Workspace
    To add video to the Timeline:
    Select File > New > Sequence and create a sequence. Drag video to new sequence.
    or
    In the Project panel, drag your video to the New Item . This will create a sequence that best matches your clips properties.

  • I unintentionally deleted the first segment of some video.  I was able to get it out of the Trash and into "Finder", but I cannot restore it to iMovie and the original video.  Help!  How do I move the video (now in Finder) back to iMovie?

    I deleted (to Trash) a segment of "raw footage" from an iMovie project that I did not want to delete.
    I was able to retreive it from the Trash and move it to Finder, but I cannot figure out how to move it back to iMovie.
    How do I do this (restore the video segment to the start of the project)?
    Or, do I have to load the original video again from the camera?

    @ "Afterimages":
      Well, yes, I suppose I could re-import the video.  (LIkely ALL of it, dammit!)
    So, unless I'm mistaken that would be the "long way" to resolving this issue.
    I was able the take the deleted video out of the Trash and now it's in Finder.  Why can't I simply re-insert it into iMovie where it orginally was?  That would be the simple solution, just "click and drag", or something like that, correct?  Maybe that's impossible?  (In which case, I must ask, "Wouldn't the creators of iMovie have considered this "boo-boo" and done something to remedy it easily?"  I doubt I'm the first vidiot to do this...
