How to truly "Expire" an Adobe Captivate 4 File?

Dear Captivate Gurus,
I am aware that setting an Expiry Date to a Captivate 4 file, has no effect if the user of the final SWF file decides to backdate his computer clock.
Is there a "fail-safe" method to ensure that I can circulate a SWF file for a trial period, after which it expires?
Then the user will have to purchase it from me.
These files will be available for download on pay-per-click basis and are not hosted for online viewing.
The software industry "thrives" on this methodology.
I am surprised, a Captivate 4 SWF file cannot even effectively implement it!
Appreciate any pointers!!!

Andrew, I've been looking for such a solution. My client wants the content to expire 90 days from the first viewing. I have an installer that will delete itself, etc but need something that expires the content 90 days out, rather than having to recompile a new .exe every few days because of the 'static date' field within Captivate.
Can I make use of the variables within Captivate to accomplish this?
Any help is truly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dan

  • Can't Open Adobe Captivate 4 File in Captivate 5.5

    Hi,
Anything special I should try or be aware of?
Whenever I try to open my 2008 Captivate 4 files in Captivate 5.5, I get the familiar can't-do-that-for-some-reason error message. (The one that suggests the file is already opened, or it was unzipped badly, not enough memory, and so forth.) Since Captivate 5.5 removes the import feature, I can't try that.
So far, I've tried running it with nothing else open on my computer (I have 10 GB of RAM), made sure to empty the cache first, and so forth.
In desperation, I'm also redownloading 4 now and giving that a try, but any other suggestions would be great.

Notes for future searchers... here is how I solved this problem.
Short Answer: Open the file in 4, resave it, and it opened in 5.5.
    Long Answer:
I downloaded Adobe Captivate 4. Fortunately, I had my license active and registered here on the Adobe site. Installation of Adobe Captivate 4 on Windows 7 was a bit weird... it asked me to reinstall Flash which I already had installed, it insisted that Adobe Captivate was currently open, and so forth. I let it reinstall Flash and I rebooted, and 4 was good to go. I made sure to install Captivate 4 in a custom location, not wanting to overwrite any resources or other things in the Adobe folder for 5.5. Then I opened the old file. It actually performed some kind of update thing when I did this, which leads me to believe that I was formerly working with a less-than-latest version of 4 or maybe even 3! Once it completed, I saved it as a new Adobe Captivate 4 file. Then I was able to open THAT file with Adobe Captivate 5.5, and save a new file again.
For some reason, fonts didn't carry over. So I reset them in all my captions, and then recompiled successfully.

  • Adding an Adobe Captivate 4 file with external links to Moodle

Hi - Does anyone know how to upload an adobe captivate 4 file so external links within the published adobe cp file open when playing in moodle?   I have attached a wmv video that does not open.  Also I have attached a swf Raptivity file that does not open.
    Thanks, Sandra

The wvx file is only really a small text file containing something like this code:
    <ASX VERSION="3.0">
    <ENTRY>
      <REF HREF="myvideo.wmv" />
    </ENTRY>
    </ASX>
It seems to just make Windows Media Player happier when loading  wmv file for some reason.  I had to resort to using this file at one client site running an IIS web server. You point your link in Captivate at the wvx file, which then loads the video.  The wvx file can have quite a lot of other code inside it to do fancy stuff.  But that's not essential.
If your question is now answered, please mark it at the top.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 files in Adobe Captivate 3?

Hi this might seem like a simple question,
Is it possible to open Adobe Captivate 4 files in Adobe Captivate 3?
    Thanks guys!

    Hi Manish
I tend to disagree with this. Think of Microsoft Office products. For example, Microsoft Word. Many folks have been accustomed to having the ability to use a newer version of Word to Save As an older version format which could then be easily edited on a different PC in the older version.
I can see a real use case for this capability with Captivate. Perhaps you have a large organization that has a multitude of Captivate copies. Most are on 3 and they cannot upgrade all PCs at the moment. So they add perhaps three licenses and all they are able to purchase are version 4. Suddenly you have a mismatch!
Something for you developers to consider.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Are Adobe Captivate swf files not compatible with IE8 or IE9 when inserted into RoboHelp projects?

    Hi,
I've published Adobe Captivate swf files and then inserted them into my RoboHelp project. I then synced my RoboHelp project with our website and the videos within online help are not functioning in IE8 or IE9. They are only working in IE11.
    Thanks,
    Jaimie

    Hi there
When a SWF plays in IE, it uses the Flash Player ActiveX control. I'm not 100% sure that different versions of IE would share the install. So if you have one version of IE on your machine, perhaps it either doesn't even have the control added in or it's the wrong version.
One thing I would check in the browsers where the content seems to be missing is to right-click the blank area and see if you coax a Flash pop similar to below:
    Then note the version number.
You may find that all that you (or others) need to do is ensure you have at least a specific version of the player/add-in installed.
    Cheers... Rick

  • I am receiving an error message that my Adobe Captivate zip file is not a valid SCORM, AICC or IMS Content Package. What am I doing wrong?

I am receiving an error message that my Adobe Captivate zip file is not a valid SCORM, AICC or IMS Content Package. This zip file has been published identically to my previous zip files. What am I doing wrong?

First, go back into the CPTX source file and check that LMS reporting is indeed turned on and that it is set to SCORM etc.
If that is OK.  Republish and use the Zip option in the Captivate Publish dialog settings to zip the file.  Don't zip it yourself.
If your LMS still rejects this zip file, upload to SCORM Cloud and see if it rejects it too.

  • How to create crossword using Adobe captivate

how to create crossword using Adobe captivate

OK.  Again I am not needing clarification here.  Did you INSERT the SWF as an animation into the Captivate project? Or, did you keep the SWF as an external file?  If the SWF is external to the main Cp SWF then perhaps it's not working when you publish because the content cannot find the SWF.  If you have made sure that the SWF is definitely in the publish location, check whether or not you have that location set as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings.

  • Opening Adobe Captivate 3 files in Captivate 2

    Hi All,
Question which I'm really hoping you can help me out with.
We have a fully registered user working with Captivate 1 full
time. She recently liaised with an employee and told him to record
some training which she would then work with. He has gone and
downloaded the Captivate 3 trial and recorded absolutely tons of
stuff which took hours and hours.
She has tried to open this with Captivate 1 to no avail
(predictably) but we have the licence for Captivate 2 which she is
upgrading to tomorrow so I was hoping it may be possible to open
the Captivate 3 files in Captivate 2 ableit with any specific
Captivate 3 features disabled? She hasnt got 2 installed yet so I'm
pre-emptively asking as it's fairly critical to our timeline.
If this is not immediatley workable does anyone have a
workaround which can enable opening the files?
Many, many thanks for any help you can provide.

David's link to the Feature Request form is a great idea.
I'll jump in here just long enough to ruin your day, "Ruler2B" ...
    you are cooked, period!
The only way you are going to be able to use those Captivate
3 generated files at all is to buy Captivate 3. They will not work
in (convert to) either Captivate 1 or 2, and after 30 days, the
"trial period" for Captivate 3 will expire and even the previously
published output will no longer work, either. But if you buy a
license of version 3, you can re-open the projects, then go to the
Preferences dialog to change the expiration date, and re-publish
them ... all will then be okay again.
Bottom line: Buy Captivate 3 license, or throw away all that
work ... there are no other options.
And please keep in mind that I am not "Adobe", just a user
like yourself, so it gives me no pleasure at all to point this out.
Please don't shoot the messenger ...
    David -
I completely agree that there should be at least
some compatibility (like a "Save As ..." option) for
later-to-earlier version, such as with MS "Word"; "Word 97" can
open "Word 2003" documents, though some features may not be
available, and that's the way it should be. I imagine the reason
there is no option like that has to do entirely with the Marketing
and Sales departments - and that's just sad ...

  • Can't Access Adobe Captivate Help files

    Hi,
I've installed Adobe Captivate 5 and upgraded it to 5.01.624. Addionally, I noticed that I can't access my Help files.I've also noticed that I can't access help from Photoshop CS5 as well.  However, I've installed the latest Adobe AIR 2.6. I've checked the Common File folder and I have an Adobe Air folder with a folder labelled Versions and a file labelled sentinel.  I'm on Windows 7.   Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Download the Help file for Captivate 5 from here :

    Thanks

  • Adobe Captivate / External Files of integrated SWF

I have an Captivate File that contains an SWF, that loads an external XML File. The SWF works perfect / AS3 and the files are in the correct folder.
However, Captivate does not link to the relative path, that is given by the swf, but to a very strange temporary path in my documents.../local.../temp...:
    Error #2044: ioError unverarbeitet. text=Error #2032: Stream-Fehler. URL: file:///C|/DOKUME%7E1/cpe/LOKALE%7E1/Temp/cp4Temp/%7ECa292/config.xml
        at test_xml()
This is somewhat spectacular, since I didn't thought that captivate could top the main bug of not providing right-click opportunities on local machines without setting a trusted path (this file goes to customers...).
Whatever: I would be very thankful if someone would provide me with a solution for this bug, since I'm running towards a deadline and captivate confuses me with ridicoulous errors on problems that I would have never imagined of.

    Hi again
All of it boils down to security. Thanks hackers! NOT!!!
Basically, if you will be deploying on CD-ROM, you need to trick Flash into thinking it is running from a server. This is easily overcome by using a freeware application called Server2Go.
Additionally, you need to ensure that the latest patch has been applied to Captivate, as it resolves some linking issues.
The process below should work to install Server2Go on CD-ROM
Download the Server2Go software from http://www.server2go-web.de/download/download.html
    Choose the Micro package
This should result in receiving a zip file named distribute_apache1.3_micro.zip
Unzip the contents of the zip file to the root of your hard drive ( C:\ )
This should create a folder named distribute_apache1.3_micro
Open this folder and delete the following files and folders inside:
    Files:
    splash.bmp
    logo.ico
    readme.txt
    Folders:
    dlls
    dbdir
    cgi-bin
Open the htdocs folder and delete all files and folders inside.
Copy all of your Captivate output files to the htdocs folder
Rename the HTML page Captivate created to index.htm
Copy the contents of the distribute_apache1.3_micro folder to the CD-ROM and test!
    Hopefully this helps! Rick

  • Adobe Captivate - HTML5 files to big!

Hello, I am doing elearning courses with Adobe Captivate 6. Don't get me wrong, I love Adobe Products. But there is a love and hate retationship with Adobe Captivate.
I am using the new HTML5 option when I publish a class, but the HTML folder is too big for mobile devices.
I did noticed that it exports all of my images as .PNGs, while I was saving my original images as low res .jpgs.
Is there a way I can export my HTML5 documents as .jpgs instead of .pngs? (Of course all of the static images as jpgs and animations, text with no backgrouns as pngs)
    Any help with be appreciated.

I've just noticed that text is published as PNG images: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5787755#5787755 with text from one slide in my project equating to 40kb in size. Across a large project that's going to stack up pretty heavily.

  • How do I modify an Adobe Reader pdf file?

    Hello,
I am trying to fill out a work application that is an Adobe Reader pdf file.
But I can not figure out how to select the fields and modify the pdf, so that I can save and print.
    Please help,
    Thanks!

    > A university course expected an assignment to be completed on a pdf template downloadable from online site, a specific word count was given or penalties apply
    Ok.
    > however when edited with student content, the word count did not change.
What do you mean "edited". Edited how - just typing in form fields?
Where do you get the word count?
    > Is this hypotheses correct? the student should purchase the pdf writer in order to complete fields correctly.
Not possible to say at this stage. (The "writer" product by the way is
called Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Professional, if it turns out you
    do need it..
    >I cannot find references anywhere about word count in the knowledge base or FAQ.
From my point of view, this is because it isn't something Reader does.
But clearly it does something - so... what does it do?

  • How to get print from adobe digital edition file

I coundn't print a document from Adobe digital edition file. will appreciate to know to method doing print from this program, thanks.

If you are in ADE (digital editions) you should be able to read a file of type .epub (assuming it is properly authorized).
It is while reading in ADE that need to try ctrl-I/cmd-I to ADE to check the rights.
If you are reading in ADE and ctrl-P/cmd-P doesn't work is it probably because you do not have rights to print the document.

  • How can I tidy up Adobe Media Cache files

On Windows Vista, I have a a C drive of 92GB. However, 33GB of this is taken by thousands of files in
    users/me/appdata/roaming/Adobe/Common/Media Cache Files
with extensions such as .cfa & .pek
How can I free up the space used by these?

    JohnJRP01
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and what is your Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit?
If you are looking to regain some more free hard drive space, please consider.
    1. Removal of the preview files. If Adobe default, then Documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\version number of Premiere Elements\Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder.
    2. Removal of conformed audio files (cfa and pek sets), then Documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\version number of Premiere Elements\Media Cache Folder.
    3. Removal of conformed video files (.mcdb), then Local Disk C\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache
Running the ccleaner (regular and registry cleaner) for overall computer optimization (be sure to say Yes to backing up registry before the registry cleaning...never had any problems, but good to be safe).
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Good idea to check Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks for the reading of available space at the location to which they are directed.
General thought...check out Adobe Folder Media Cache for cfa and pek and that Common Folder via the Users directory for .mcdb unless you have custom locations. Check periodically to make sure that the Scrath Disk Locations have not changed without you knowing it.
Also, go easy on System Restore since the process eats up a lot of hard drive space.
    Thanks.
