How do I turbo boost a 13" MacBook Pro?
You don't.
Your like many people who discovered the 13" MacBook Pro lacks a much faster dedicated graphics chip, got conned into upgrading OS X to a later more feature rich/bloated version and now crying.
I'm on my Early 2011 i7 quad core 17" MacBook Pro with dedicated graphics and Snow Leopard, it screams still just like the day I bought it. 3D games and everything.
However I have some tips that might assist you in speeding up your machine, if it's got a problem.
Why is my computer slow?

how do you restore your macbook to original settings?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
If you upgraded from an earlier version of OS X such as Snow Leopard, the procedure you want is not this one. Let me know.

  • Turbo boost on MacBook Air.

Do the MacBook Airs have TURBO BOOST? Or only the MacBook Pros?

According to intel's specifications for the processors Apple uses, the MBA does indeed have turbo-boost.
While Apple does not mention "Turbo-Boost", by name, they do indicate in the specifications that processor speeds are monitored and adjusted. "MacBook Air continuously monitors system thermal and power conditions, and may adjust processor speed as needed to maintain optimal system operation." In other words, it raises processor speed when thermal conditions and power needs/availability permit.
Anandtech's review of the MBA also indicates that Turbo-Boost is indeed evident by testing.

WOndering how to reset my Macbook.

Best way is to restart on the Mac OS X install disk, then erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.  Make a backup of the content first as this will remove everything on the hard drive.

  • How do i turbo boost my 2.7 i7 macbook pro 15" retina to 3.7?

    Hello everyone...
...can someone tell me how to turbo boost my 2.7 i7 macbook pro 15" retina to 3.7?
Being quite new to laptops (my G4 lasted me 9 years!) I'm not quite sure what to do or look for.
    Any advice much appreciated!
    Glenn

Turbo boost isn't user controlled, it's technology that automatically (and dynamically) kicks in based on the usage of your machine. For more information:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Turbo_Boost
Or just google, 'Intel Turbo Boost' for tons of resources.

  • How does the Turbo-boost works on the Intel i7?

Just bought the new MBP Retina and would like to know how the Turbo Boost works in my processor. Is it a regular upgrade like buying a new processor or is it something I could menage at the settings and have it boosted up?
    Thanks,

    Intel's definition:
Any of the following can set the upper limit of Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 on a given workload:
    Number of active cores
    Estimated current consumption
    Estimated power consumption
    Processor temperature
When the processor is operating below these limits and the user's workload demands additional performance, the processor frequency will dynamically increase until the upper limit of frequency is reached. Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 has multiple algorithms operating in parallel to manage current, power, and temperature to maximize performance and energy efficiency. Note: Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 allows the processor to operate at a power level that is higher than its rated upper power limit (TDP) for short durations to maximize performance.

  • How does Intel Turbo Boost work?

I have the i7-2620M CPU. How does turbo boost work on my Mac. And what is the max GHz speed for Turbo Boost 2.0 in 2011 MBPs?

If you would like some more detailed information that amplifies Kappy's succinct but correct answer, please read this:

  • Turbo Boost DISABLED?

How can I check if turbo boost is working on Mac OS ?MBP 13.3" with i7 has turbo boost disabled on windows?WHY?
    .

    Hi kdev_.
I am also experiencing the same problem, and I've called both Intel, and Apple. I have the same computer like you and I ran the Intel Turbo Boost Monitor software within Windows 7, and I found out that my maximum speed of my CPU does not exceed 2.70 Ghz, which means that Apple has disabled Intel Turbo Boost 2.0, which does not make any sense, and makes me very angry, because I've spent so much money for this computer. According to Apple and Intel's website, the Intel Core i7 2620m is supposed to boost up to 3.4 Ghz when Turbo Boost 2.0 kicks in, but my processor isn't going faster than 2.70 Ghz in Windows 7. According to AnandTech,
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4205/the-macbook-pro-review-13-and-15-inch-2011-br ings-sandy-bridge/3
Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 is working fine in Mac OS X, but has been disabled in Boot Camp for Windows 7, which does not make any sense, because a lot of people like you and me, purchase the Macbook Pro to run Windows 7. I am very disappointed and angry at Apple because they are overcharging people and not giving us what we have paid for. I suggest that everyone send this message/complaint to Apple's feedback website so that hopefully, their engineers will allow support for Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 in the next Boot Camp Update. Kdev_, feel free to contact me at anytime so we can discuss this issue. What's more weird is that according to PC Pro,
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/03/10/apple-macbook-pro-13in-wheres-the-turbo- boost/
the Macbook Pro 13 Intel i5 is turbo boosting fine in Windows 7 while the more expensive i7 is not. This makes absolutely no sense at all and there is no reason why Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 has been disabled in Windows 7.

  • Intel Turbo Boost Driver

    Greetings
I have the i3-M330 chip on my laptop.  I was looking at laptops with i5-430 ( ? ) chips.  CNET stated that the later comes with Turbo boost.  But  seems the Turbo Boost driver is available for my chipset also.  Has anyone tried to install it on this chipset?   Does anyone have any preference between the i3s adn i5s?  I like my laptop alot since the video card is separate.  I am just curious how the Turbo boost driver works on i3s.  I remember the MMX technology was not very successful, and this Turbo boost seems like a similar attempt.  Any thought?

Please install the drivers as per the instructions from the following weblinks depending on the operating system installed on the system:

  • How do I transfer apps macbook air

Hi! I bought a MacBook Air and I have a lot of apps on my old MacBook.
I'd like to transfer iPhoto from the MacBook to the Air, but don't know how.
    Anyone?

Your MacBook Air should come with the iPhoto application already installed (look in the Applications folder.) Do you mean that you want to transfer all of your pictures over from the MacBook?
The easiest way to do this is to use the Migration Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities) where you can move over whatever data (and Applications) you want.

  • Discoloration / yellow colloring on your MacBook

It seems that the palm rest area of the MacBook uses a slightly porous plastic. These areas pickup some discoloration from our hands. Depending on how much you use your MacBook, the discoloration may appear in a few days, or a few weeks.
Your MacBook may look like someone has put out their cigarettes on it, or maybe someone used your MacBook with dark paint on their hands.
This is very easy to fix, however, if you don't read what I'm about to write, you will ruin your machine.
Your MacBook is made from a soft plastic. Harsh solvents can do serious damage to your machine.
Harsh chemicals include ACETONE BASED NAIL POLISH REMOVER and ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL. If you use either of these chemicals, YOU WILL RUIN YOUER MacBook. That is, the second one of these chemicals touch the surface of your computer, that surface is destroyed.
NON-ACETONE nail polish remover has kept my MacBook looking like new. It won't melt the plastic. It cleans up the dirtiness in the palm rests.
NO NOT USE ACETONE! You will ruin your computer. DO NOT USE ISOPROPYL! You will ruin your computer.
Use only NON-ACETONE based solvents. Specifically, use NON-ACETONE based nail polish remover that is BLUE or CLEAR colored. Do not use other colors, and do not use any product that does not say "Non-Acetone". It MUST be NON-ACETONE, or you will ruin you computer.

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL. If you use either of
these chemicals, YOU WILL RUIN YOUER MacBook. That
is, the second one of these chemicals touch the
surface of your computer, that surface is destroyed.
NOT USE ISOPROPYL! You will ruin your computer.
That is very interesting. I have used Isopropyl Rubbing alcohol on my computers for year, never on LCD screens, and have no "destroyed" or "ruined" computers. Every local tech I know cariies a bottle of the stuff and some lint free rags to clean customer systems with and most of the local home run shops use it.
I can't speak to acetone, Ive never used it, but I have no first hand knowledge of rubbing alcohol ever destroying anything on any of my computers, including 1 G3 iMac, 1 G4 Powerbook, 2 G5 iMacs and 2 G4 iBooks,.. all of them are perfectly fine and stain free.

  • Turbo Boost to 3.9GHz on an Intel Core i7 iMac?

    Hi Guys
Can anyone explain how the Turbo Boost 2.0 to 3.9GHz works on a 3.5gHZ Intel Core i7 iMac?  Should I have somehow paid for an extra "Turbo Boost 2.0" upgrade when purchasing the 3.5gHZ Intel Core i7 iMac? I didn't see "Turbo Boost 2.0" as an extra option in the checkout so I'm thinking that it's already in-built into the 3.5gHZ Intel Core i7 iMacs?
I use Final Cut Pro X extensively so the Turbo Boost 2.0 would be great.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

    it's built in .
Turbo Boost 2.0 automatically increases the speed of the active cores, so the Core i7, for example, can offer up to 3.9GHz. And by shifting core frequency in small increments, Turbo Boost allows the processor to manage performance without sacrificing efficiency.
