Is there any way to turn iMac 2011 to a TV to play XBox 360 or PS3 ?
Sorry no.
ThunderBolt iMacs only take video-input and can be used as dsplays from other ThunderBolt Macs.

I plan to do some simple live recording ( 6 or 7 simultaneous tracks, and possibly add a few more later ) I want to keep my machine running smooth with the least amount of competition for resources while recording. Any tips and info on what and how to turn off what I don`t need? Or am I getting ahead of myself here?...Just read the manual, fire it up and see what happens?...hmmm, I think I`ll take any help I can get! Oh, and yes,I`ve got the 400 to 800 Firewire cable/adapter situation handled. Thanks! 2011 13" Macbook Pro Intel i7 firewire 800 5400rpm serial ATA 500Gb 4Gb 2.7Ghz. in System Preferences make sure FileVault is off, i'd turn off AirPort, and make sure Energy Saver is set to it's least restrictive settings (like not allowing the hard drive to sleep)

a bit, i wouldn't worry about problems until you run into any. i've recorded a lot more, with a lot less

that is probably the only stumbling block i can see. if you run into an issue where the drive isn't fast enough for the number of Audio tracks with which you wish to work, you can buy a FireWire hard drive to solve it (and shopping around they can be had for under $100 [a lot less if you're willing to "roll-your-own"]) -
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?
I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. There seem to be a lot of threads suggesting problems that are possible. Has anyone gone through this upgrade with success? Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? -
How to turn off sound when iMac starts up
how to turn off or turn down sound when my imac starts up
debrafromusa,
This would be an extremely bad idea, the start up tone is there for a reason. It tells you when your system is attempting to boot, it is also necessary in the even resets like a PRAM reset are done. There is software to mask the sound however as stated it is a very poor idea.
Also, why turn it off. Why not simply put the display to sleep when the machine is not in use. You can easily do that in System Preferences - Energy Saver -
What do I need to install win7 in my iMac 2011 21.5" ,and how much do I need?
What do I need to install win7 in my iMac 2011 21.5" ,and how much
I think all your answers can be addressed in a free session with an apple genius. All of your questions are about things that, as softwater points out, are free.
you have time machine already on your machine, hit command+spacebar and type time machine, hit enter. time machine will come up. Follow the steps it says to set it up.
Boot Camp (which I've never used) is also on your machine already. hit command+spacebar and then type Boot Camp. Hit enter. This is boot camp assistent. Use your CD of windows with this software and you'll be able to boot into windows 7.

How to turn off startup sound on iMac desktop ?
can anybody tell me how to turn off the annoying sound on startup with the Imac ?
i cannot find it anywhere in the setup.
thanks for yor feedback
Marco3991Hello:
Mute your computer before you shut it down.
Incidentally, that "annoying sound" is an audible notification that the Mac has successfully performed self-tests on startup. If you get anything other than a single chime, you have trouble.

How to turn of control-click right click on iMac?
Hi! I've been trying to use pixlr.com, a photo editor, and one of the tools requires that I control-click to activate a tool. However when I control-click it brings up a contextual/right-click menu and I can't use the tool. Does anyone know how to turn this off?
Thanks!
SheaYour right click button is probably set to do something else.
Go to System Preferences then Mouse then Point & Click then Secondary click choose Left or Right. If you'r using a Trackpad it is just the same only this time you have three choices. -

Kernel Panics on a 27" iMac (2011)
Hey,
i have a big problem with my 27" iMac 2011 (i5, 32GB RAM, SAMSUNG SSD 256GB + 2TB HDD).
Once a day my Mac won't wake up after it went sleep. This happens for example over night. I cant turn it back on. Once I press a key oder move the mouse my wacom tablet gets power (so the Mac is still on) but the screen keeps staying black. The only thing I can do is to hard-power-off/on ...
2 weeks ago I got a new logic board at my supplier (because we all thought this would solve it) .. the problems are still present :/
After I turn it back on an check the crash reports the most freuqen reason for this kernel panic is com.apple.driver.AirPort.Atheros40. Any thoughts?
I run the Memory test a couple times. Can this kind of problems are being caused by external USB peripherals? Maybe my USB HUB (Belkin 7 port)...
I'd appreciate soooo much if you could give me any hint on how to solve this problem...Maybe any driver?
Here is one of the crash reports:

IMac 2011 getting BSOD in Bootcamp
Hello all.
I installed Bootcamp on my new iMac (2011) and installed Windows 7 SP1. I downloaded the iMac drivers to a CD via Bootcamp, and installed this.
When I run Dawn of War 2 in Windows, I get the dreaded blue screen error with a "atikmpag.sys" error.
Now, I get that this has something to do with the Apple-drivers and the ATI-graphics, but what can I do about it?
I tried installing the ATI drivers from their web-site, but it says that my card is not supported.
How do I replace the Apple-drivers in Windows 7 with, say, ATI's own driver?
Thanks in advance. It is an ATI driver, this is the info from Display Adapters under Device Manager:
Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
Driver Date: 07-07-2011
Driver Version: 8.872.0.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher
However, I did not download it from the ATI site. If I go to the ATI site and download the driver from there (after entering my hardware and OS info) it wont install. Says I don't have the proper hardware.
Instead, I downloaded the driver from here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/206549-ati-mobilit y-catalyst-11-7-display-drivers-notebooks-27-07-2011-a.html
However, the issue is BACK! I played through several (10+) levels in DoW2 without any issues and exceptional performance, but then the game started freezing for several seconds, the screen turned either black or gray, and then the game went on - but just had a blue screen again.
Sorting the driver was my last idea, I am fresh out now. -
I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was. I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.
I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software.
The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.
