Hi there!
Does anyone here know how to turn your iPhone 4s as a hotspot for internet? It's like being a modem/router, then, other devices near it would be able to have internet access via wifi.

The function is Mobile carrier dependent.
That is to say some carriers make a charge for activating the function and additional charges for subsequent data use.
You need to check the terms of your local carrier first.
If they support the function request setup and pay any fees applied.
You will be sent a configuration profile vis SMS to activate the function.
Clicking on the SMS powering down and restarting the device will unlock the function on your phone.
NB.If you have an unlocked iPhone or are in a few countries above may not be necessary.
Just follow to steps below
At this point tap settings/Personal Hotspot and slide the toggle switch to on
Set a Wifi Password.
You may be asked to turn on Wifi -this switches priority to transmit rather than receive
You can now share your 3G/LTE (or GPRS/Edge very slow !) with upto 5 other devices.
3 devices may connect via the Wifi link
1 no via Bluetooth
1 no via USB cable
Best avoiding Bluetooth if possible as it wrecks the battery life and is severely bottlenecked on bandwidth.

I would like to give my old iphone 3g to a daycare teacher who just broke her ipod on a field trip - so sad.
I don't have the sim card in my phone anymore and when I plug it in to itunes I cannot access anything! I just want to set it up as an ipod touch
(sim card was removed by an online company that I tried to sell the phone to - when they offered $30 I had them mail it back but they wouldn't return my sim card)

I do have a SIM card for my iphone 4, but they are different sizes. I didn't try to insert the sim card for fear it might hurt it. My carrier for both phones is At&t. Thoughts?

Apple ID's are not device specific, so when you changed it on the iPad 2 it changed it on the iPhone 4 as well, since it's the same account still. What you need to do is create a second Apple ID (so you'll have two accounts, one for iPhone 4 and a seperate one for iPad 2).
To create a new Apple ID on your iPad 2:
1) Go into Settings > Store.
2) If you are already signed in, tap your Apple ID on the screen and you will be given a few options, one of which is to sign out of your account.
3) After you sign out, now click the "Sign in" button.
4) Tap "Create New Apple ID" and follow the instructions on-screen.

well yes, but it basically makes wifi for the other devices, it basically mimics wifi.

it would be common sense to make it work this way also. directly from device to device. no bounce between WiFi router

Pop up usually meant that icloud activation lock is still on on Apple servers. In order to deactivate you need to turn icloud back on by signing in and then sign out properly. For your sake I hope that you know the password.
