  • How to turn a Macbook Pro into a second display for another Macbook Pro

So my school just gave me a Macbook Pro and I already have a Macbook Pro. I would like to know if I could turn my school Macbook Pro into a second display for my regular Macbook Pro. Thank You!
Both Macs are running Mavericks 10.9.4

If you need administrative access and it is denied to you, then there is no way, as ScreenRecycler and AirDisplay do need administrative access to be installed.

  • CAN I TURN MY MACBOOK PRO INTO A MONITOR?

Help I want to turn my Macbook Pro into a monitor for my Playstation 2 so that way I can record on my screen using quicktime. please help I used a vga adapter from apple a AV to vga converter, and is their any way for me to use an iphone on a mac to play ios games while recording?

I don't think you can without some sort of capture card (very expensive, and because most MacBook Pros don't have a card, you need to use the FW800).  MBP's Thunderbolt port only sends video signals out, you can't attach an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable from your camera to the MBP and expect to show video.
You could try a utility like Sofortbild.

  • How long to transfer macbook pro into imac

I just got my new imac. Started migration from my good old macbook pro through wifi & than connected ethernet cable. 4 hours have gone by now.... Is it normal? How long should this process take more or less ?
    Tks

Thanks for replying. My question: if i plagued an ethernet cable while migration was already on, did the computers change and now migrate through ethernet? The only difference i noticed after connecting the ethernet cable is, the notice about connecting ethernet for a faster migration disappeared. But that was 2 hours ago.... . After how many hours should i start to be suspicious?

  • Turning my Macbook Pro into a server

I have read over and over (MacX -Missing Manual) on how to let people access your computer as server or FTP sever,Host my own sites etc... No matter what I try nothing works.
My goal is to have files on my Mac and let my band members access them when thy need them then reload them to my comuter when they finish their modifications. We were using my .Mac acct. but we are working with .WAV files and they are on the larger size.
I also want to host my own .coms that I already have from my Mac.
Can anybody direct me to the proper setup info?

Not sure that this will work:
firstly the personal web sharing thing is only for
computers on a network or intranet not across the
    internet.
That's not true - I used it for years to host my own website. The button in System Preferences simply issues the command 'sudo apachectl start' to start the Apache webserver.
Anyway, to host your website, you'll need to not only turn on Personal Web Sharing (the relevant firewall ports on the G5 should open up automatically) on the G5, but you'll need to set up your router as well.
Hopefully there's some place on your router where it shows you its WAN IP, i.e., the address that it has for the "outside world". That's the address that any visitor would need to connect to. Of course, this could change if you have a dynamic IP connection with your ISP.
The router also needs to be configured to forward traffic to your G5 if that traffic arrives on port 80 (the standard port for http traffic), and maybe on port 443 (for https connections). This may be called port forwarding or virtual servers or something like that, depending on whose router you have. You'll also need open up those ports on the router's built-in firewall.
If you want to use "proper words" in the URL, you need a domain name. Preferably, you'll have a static IP address to use with this, or if you don't, you can use a service such as DynDNS.
This is the setup in a nutshell. Work with getting this configured and see if someone can successfully connect to your server from the outside.
Feel free to post back with questions as much as you like. It will work; I had my old PM9600 (running OS X) operating as a webserver/mailserver for several years.

  • How to put my Macbook Pro in AP mode

When I have a Ethernet connection, I can use Internet Sharing to turn my Macbook Pro into a 802.11n wireless router / access point, but I can't find anyway to do this without sharing the Internet. Since there's no Ad-hoc in 802.11N/Draft-N, this is the only way to do high-speed communication without an actual AP. Anyone has any ideas?

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to do. I THINK you are trying to share a wireless Internet connection with other devices, and this can't be done. You can only share a wired connection.
... but then again, maybe you are trying to do something else.

How do I add my new iPhone4s to iCloud's "Find my iPhone"? I followed the iCloud instructions and turned on Macbook Pros' system prefs to "find my mac", turned on iPhone4s's "location services" and set up iCloud, etc. In the "Find my iphone" tab of my new iCloud account (on my Macbook Pro) my iPhone4s still won't show—but my macbook does show. I had my iPhone4s set up at the phone store (2 days ago) and It receives gmail, my contacts and calender entries, the weather, etc. I installed the "Find iPhone" app from iTunes on the iPhone4s, synched to iTunes, even reset the phone, but the only device that gets located is my Macbook Pro. I can send a "sound" message to my Mac (and the Mac recieves it) but unable to see the iPhone4s from my Mac, let alone send any message. Any suggestions to get the iPhone4s device to appear in iCloud?
Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, I figured it out...I deleted the iCloud account off my iPhone (Settings, iCloud, Delete Account), and then added iCloud back in (Settings, iCloud, SignIn)....and then my email (iCloud) and "Find my phone" features worked! Nice!!!!

how set up  macbook  pro Internet router?

But isn't the MacBook Pro connected to the modem and being used as the router? You can only share an Ethernet connection wirelessly. You only check the box to share the Ethernet connection to Wi-Fi. Do not check any of the other boxes. You select Ethernet from the dropdown menu as the connection you will share. Your preferences should look like this:
The only difference will be that yours will show just Ethernet, not Ethernet 1.

  • Hi, I turned my macbook pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to use the volume at all! I went to system preferences sound output BUT everything is light grey and it some-how looks like I don't have permission.

Hi, I turned my MacBook Pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to turn up or down my volume. It comes up with all the volume bars and a little circle sign with a diagonal line in the middle, like a stop sign. I have gone to system preferences > Volume > Output BUT all my volume preferences have gone all light grey and wont let me access them.
    Anyone help?

  • Need help trouble shooting on how to fix my MacBook Pro so it will start

Ok, this is going to be a bit of a long one, cuz there are a good amount of details that go into the problem and how I have tried to fix it.
To start, late last summer I got my Macbook Pro 15" with high resolution anti-glare, 500 GB X 7200 RPM hard drive, and everythin else standard.
Next part of the story is that i decided to upgrade from my 3-year-old iPhone 3GS. So I preordered an iPhone 5 (never doing that again), and finally received it 10/05/12.
Wanting to synch my new iPhone 5 ASAP so I could fully play with it, I finally synched my old iPhone 3GS with my MacBook Pro for the first time. I had not previously synched it with my MacBook Pro, because all of the songs and stuff that were on it were from being synched with my family's desktop (from maybe a year or so ago; I don't synch my phones often.). I also had been lazy this whole time in not transferring the songs and stuff from the desktop to my MacBook Pro, so thats why I didn't synch my 3GS, because I didn't want to lose that stuff on my phone until I had made time to transfer the data. Because of this, I didn't use iTunes that much and I updated it only 2 or 3 times over the year that I had if before I got my iPhone 5.
After synching my old phone, I then tried synching the i5, but an iTunes pop up said that I needed to update to iTunes 7.0 in order to synch the new phone.
So I canceled the pop-up, and checked the updates in iTunes, and selected update (I can't remember what it said I was updating to, but I don't think it was 7.0).
After it started updating, it asked if I wanted to update something something else (I think it was an iOS update or something thing like that.).
I select update, because it looks legit, and why not update the whole computer when I'm taking the time to update iTunes? So the 15-20 minute installation estimation time turns into 2 hours (I think that it said that there was 2GB of update, but not sure.).
At that time, I think of how I don't remember if the update was 7.0 or not (maybe 6.9 or something like that was my thought.). So I tried to re-synched my i5 to make the pop up for iTunes 7.0 to come up. It came up, and I clicked the link to take me to Apple's site. I clicked the update to iTunes 7.0, and it started downloading from the internet, and it gave some download estimation time. Remember that the other iTunes and iOS thing was still updating while iTunes 7.0 was downloading. The problem was that I had to go to work a few minutes before the download of the iTunes 7.0 from Apple's site would complete and 1.5 hours before the other updates would finish. So I just left my MacBook Pro open, running, and updating/downloading.
After work, I checked my laptop, and it said something about finalizing the installation. So I hit that button to finalize or whatever it said, and it starts finalizing.
After waiting 10 or so minutes I check my MacBook Pro again, and it says that it needs to restart to complete the process. So I hit the restart button on the pop up.
It restarted, and against a blue screen there was a grey pop up that said that there was some error or something like that in the installation and that I needed to restart the computer again. There was only one button on the pop up, and it was the "Restart" button. So I pressed it, and it restarted again.
However, it didn't fully boot up (and to this day still doesn't) and get past the grey screen with the apple and the spinning gear thingy underneath it.
After like 20 minutes, I did a forced shut off, and rebooted while holding the option button to see if I could start my Windows side, since I have my computer bootcamped, though I haven't used Windows on it yet. The three options appeared: Windows something, Macintosh something, and Recovery HD. I clicked the Windows button, and after loading and stuff, Windows was running and working. So I'm pretty sure that my problem isn't a hardware problem, but a software problem.
So I asked a friend who is studying to be some kind of computer guy, and he suggested that I put in the Mac iOS X disk that I got with my MacBook Pro when I start up and try to get to Disk Utility. I did that, and was able to get to Disk Utility. And as he instructed, I (on the First Aid tab, I think) pressed "Verify Disk". He said that it started to look for problems and stuff. Then when it was done, I pressed the "Repair Disk", and he said it started fixing those problems. After it was done, I performed another forced shut off. I then turned my MacBook Pro on with crossed fingers, but it was still stuck on the gray screen with the apple and the gear.
He then suggested that we try to start it in Safe Mode, so we researched how to do it on my family's desktop. I tried holding Shift after the turn on tone and releasing it when the spinning gear appeared, but that didn't work. I'm still not sure if that's the right way to start in safe mode.
So right now I don't have any other ideas, besides spending money to get it fixed, which I don't want to do, cuz I'm not rich and I work hard for all these fancy toys.
It ***** to have the joy of getting the newest iPhone overshadowed by my MacBook Pro not working.
    Someone, please help!!!

First off your older OS X boot disks are no good as you upgraded OS X to a later version.
When you held the option key down at boot, this entered Startup Manager and by what your describing you have Recovery HD, Macintosh HD (your OS X boot partition), and Windows BootCamp partition.
To repair the drive, you enter Recovery HD and use Disk Utiltiy there to repair the Macintish HD partition.
You also use Recovery HD to reinstall OS X 10.7 or 10.8 from Apple's servers, this should fix your problems without deleting your programs or files. (some third party with at boot kernel extension ones will have to be reinstalled)

  • How can I connect MacBook Pro OSX 10.5.2 to G3 Lombard (bronze) OSX 10.1.5?

Can anybody please tell me in simple terms how to connect my MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.2 to my G3 Lombard (bronze keyboard) laptop OS X 10.1.5 so that I can share files. I wish to drag files from the old G3 computer's hard drive into the hard drive of the new MacBook Pro as well as search the old hard drive from the MacBook Pro. I have an ethernet crossover cable as well as regular ethernet cables. Can I connect the computers directly, or should I disconnect my Linksys router from the modem and connect the computers through the router via ethernet?
I have tried both ways, and failed. However, I think I need clear instructions in how to share under both OS X system versions, to set a file's permissions (in both OS X versions), how to set the firewalls (I have Norton Personal Firewall in the G3 and the OS X firewall in the MacBook Pro), how to see the hard drives of the other computer, and how to set anything else properly, as well as any detail that will make this easy to do properly.
Finally, I need to be able to return the settings of the MacBook Pro back to secure settings that will allow me to connect safely when I take it to work and connect to the ethernet network there. Thank you for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Wilson

connect the computers through the router via ethernet
Both these computers are capable of File Sharing using IP. Only Macs running 10.3.9 and earlier can use AppleTalk File Sharing. Rendezvous/bonjour can help you on the later 10.5 Mac, but may not be too helpful on the 10.1.5 Mac. So you may need the IP address of the 10.1.5 Mac to connect to it.
On the Mac to share its files:
System Preferences > Sharing > Services
    check "Personal File Sharing" AND
System Preferences > Sharing > FireWall
check "Personal File Sharing" to let that traffic come through.
I expect it is similar for Norton FireWall, but Norton has such a \[well deserved] rotten reputation, and has pretty much pulled out of the Mac market, so help on this may be hard to come by.
On the \[10.5.2] Mac that wants to mount the Shared Volumes:
In the Finder, Go Menu, select "Connect to Server"
Select your 10.2.5 Mac in the window that opens and click connect. If it is not seen, you can browse for it or specify its IP address.
You get a login Window. Login using an ID \[from the 10.1.5 Mac] that has Permissions to read and write the files you want to share. The drive(s) or Folder(s) you specified will mount as network Drives on the desktop. Drag and drop files in both directions to your heart's content.
N.B.: If you choose "Guest", you will have access to the "Shared" folder ONLY.
You have made no changes or compromises to your 10.5.2 Mac, so no Undo is necessary to take it back to work on Monday.

  • Able to Dock MacBook Pro into iMac Display?

I have a MacBook Pro which I keeped docked into/connected to my Apple LED Cinema Display when I'm not on the road or at meetings outside of my office. This allows me to work with my MacBook Pro closed and with a keyboard and mouse at hand, almost as if I'm using a desktop.
My father's asked me to look into purchasing an iMac for his home, which I frequently visit. Would it be possible for me to dock my MacBook Pro into the iMac display similarly to how I can dock my MacBook Pro into my Apple LED Cinema Display? (And, if so, are there any additional accessories I need to do this?)
For example, can I close my notebook? Can I use the iMac mouse and keyboard? Can I play music on the iMac speakers? Can I use the iSight camera? I realize the iMac needs to be turned on when being connected to, which implies that the iMac operating system and programs would be running in the background, but can I basically keep the iMac operating system and programs "hidden" so that it feels like I'm purely using my MacBook Pro?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

  • How to connect my macbook pro to a computer-to-computer network?

how to connect my macbook pro to a computer-to-computer network?  My home computer is a Window 8 OS.  Thx.

The easiest way, and it may work from scratch, is to share the folders/drives you want access to on your pc, noticing what are the default parameters (eg "workgroup" etc.).
Then, you can connect your mac directly by ethernet, for instance, and, in Finder, go to > Network, you should see the folders/drives. You may be asked to provide user/password.
Don't get confused by regular/crossed ethernet cable, as mac can cross by software, so a regular cable will be ok.
Anyway, either you isd modem has the ability to connect several devices (multiple ethernet sockets, or wifi), or you can buy a router, which isn't expansive.
