How to turn of data verification?
Is there a way to turn of data verifcation after burning a disc? I burn a lot of discs with photos. But the verifcation costs way too much time. I don't have that time because my clients are waiting to get their disc asap.
I can turn it of in Roxio Toast 8, but since burning in finder is much easier for me with using Aperture it would be great to turn it of in finder as well.

This doesn't address your question but the new Toast 9 accesses the Aperture library using the Media Browser, which may make using it easier for you. One thing to note is that any changes made to the library after Toast is open aren't recognized unless Toast is closed and reopened. I do a lot of photo work with clients and very much like Toast's Photo Disc feature because it gives them a full resolution Mac & PC slide show as well as the image files. You have that on Toast 8, too.

How to turn off data on iPhone since recent iTunes carrier setting update?
In the past few days my iphone has been using 3G for data and I have no control over it. At home it is connected to my wifi internet which has always been the case and which is fine but when I leave home it turns on data via 3G and there is no way off easily turning it off short of going into aeroplane mode or turning phone off altogether. I Only became alerted when I got an sms telling me my balance was low on my prepaid (with Telstra) when I knew I should have had plenty of money left on balance. Lucky I've only had about $20 used - how am I to know the phone in my pocket has been always connected. The problem has arisen since a carrier setting update a few days ago via Itunes. I can turn off 3G but then the phone just reverts to 2G and the data keeps flowing !
There is no where to alter the cellular data network or APN settings since I installed a 3G sim .... previously with a 2G SIM you could enter cellular data network menu and enter APN username and password but these have both gone.
This is a major problem and could be very costly if someone does not realise it quickly .
Any solutions .... will speak to telco later today but they will inevitably deny an responsibility as they do !Unfortunately this may be contrary to the terms of the agreement that I have just agreed to so as to be able to participate in this thread but I consider the inability to limit the data access, to provide the owner with the option to explicitly authorise data access requested by an application as not just "bill shock" but THEFT. I am a prepaid client who only wishes to use the data based apps when wifi is available. The workaround that worked until two days ago was amending the APN but now, on an iPhone purchased at the Apple store in Sydney and presumably an officially unlocked phone, no longer displays the APN option. Despite being very aware of the vulnerable state of the phone and the need to avoid any data based application I yesterday I still managed to incur two unwanted data charges of $18 and $9. I consider that THEFT. Even on a data plan I would be unable to satisfactorily control data usage.
When the unwanted data exhausts my current prepaid balance, as it has several times in the past, I will have to convert my iPhone into an iPod Touch and obtain another phone. I certainly will investigate whether Android permits controlling data access.
I am very disappointed as I believe the range of apps provides a compelling argument for the iPhone but the customer's inability to control data usage is unacceptable. -
I just got my first Blackberry Z10. I am experinecing extreme high data usage although Wi-Fi is available. How can I turn the data off to control my usage? can't find it...
IN your Settings (swipe down from the top bezel on the homescreen) > Network Connections> Mobile Network > your carrier > you can turn off data services and still retain WiFi data transmission.
However, as stated above, if WiFi is connected, it will always be the preferred data pipe even if the mobile network data is ON.

How to: turn dvd burn verification OFF?
I burn DVD all the time and walk away, and come back to find the disk in verification, which cause more time than I want.
How do I turn verification off?

with OS X 10.4.7, where you insert blank media, click
it open, drag files to burn onto it and hit the burn
bar at the top of the window.
It will automatically start verifying after burning.
This is probably smart, but not desired from my
standpoint.
Once it gets to the verify phase you can click the cancel button in the progress window to stop it. -

What you should do, if you don't want any nasty surprises, is put your phone in Airplane mode. That turns off all iPhone radios, but you can go back into settings & turn WiFi back on.
Do not rely on the data roaming setting to protect you. -

I only use the integrated gps and have turned off the assisted gps, net based gps and Wi-Fi/Network but when accessing maps it still generates data traffic.
Normally this is´nt a problem but when traveling abroad data traffic costs a small fortune.
In my old N95 when I downloaded offline maps and turned everything but integrated gps off there was no data traffic at all but even after the latest maps updates (i.e. yesterday) it appears that the maps still needs downloading when accessed...
Any suggestions how to completely avoid data traffic when using maps?Set all destinations to always ask and select no whenever the phone gives you a request, set Maps to offline, and set location to just use intergrated GPS. Thanks.I understand your concern to bypass roaming charges! Please share your travel destination, so I may advise accordingly. There is no option on your current device to simply disable/enable data. I suggest not accessing any data, disabling any email account and subscriptions that automatically use data. Thank you.

How do I turn off data on my Extrovert 2? There is nothing in the settings to do this. I am getting small data usage showing up even though I never go on the internet or access emails, and I have a pay per use data plan. I don't really want any data plan at all, and didn't use to have one, but when I returned my defective phone, the rep who placed the order added a $10.00/month data plan, without my consent. When I called to get it removed, the rep changed it to a "pay per use" plan. I want things back to the way they were. I don't want ANY data plan. I only use the phone for calls and texts, and am not sure why small data amounts are showing up on some days, from .00001 to .00021 mg.
You should be able to log into your on-line My Verizon account (assuming you're the Account Owner) and put a data block on the line, or call Customer Service and have them do it.

I've read in other forums that it's not enough to turn off data roaming. Apparently apps that use the internet will turn roaming back on in Windows phones. Can anyone offer a complete and definitive list of instructions for turning roaming off abroad? I would prefer to be able to access wifi hotspots so don't want to simply turn on airplane mode. I simply want to know how to turn off iCloud* without losing my contacts
Call me old fashioned, but I really do NOT want to use iCloud EXCEPT for ONE THING*: and that's to find my phone, ipad or laptop if it goes missing.
Having said that, I have figured out how to turn off icloud on my ipad and my iphone (I am not using the phone as a phone, just as a glorified ipod) while keeping the "find my ipad/iphone" function active, BUT
I can't quite figure out how to do it on my laptop.
I seem to have done it already for photos, and for the calendar, (I know this from checking iCloud to see what it's got) but just cannot figure out how to turn it off for contacts.
And YES, I've backed up all of those things at LEAST 3 different ways, I just don't want the Cloud to be one of them.
So can anyone tell me how to turn off contacts in the cloud without it also magically deleting them in my laptop? (I had it happen on the ipad, that's why I'm worried.)

The only way around this is to "save as" you icloud documents using the associated app to a local folder on your mac. Then turn off icloud.
Of course, when you sign off of icloud, the docs are removed from the mac, but remain in icloud. In the future when you sign back in, the documents are available to you again.
Oh, and the icloud documents are also stored locally in ...
~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
You can move these files to another folder to save them. -

Here's how...
Connect your old Apple device to WiFi and to a power source.
Back it up to iCloud by going to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and toggling iCloud Backup on. The time it takes to ba ckup depends on how much data you have and on the speed of your internet connection.
