How to turn of the "new tab/window" click sound in Firefox 4?

I have just installed Firefox 4.0.1 on Gentoo Linux.
Any time I open a new tab or window, there is a "click" sound. It sounds deliberate, like a notification.
The sound persists even when turning all addons off.
How can I disable that sound?

I tested this on my coworkers iPhone 5 running iOS8, and it does not occur for him. So it must be a bug. I am posted a bug report. Here is video of the issue happening: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6t7gwmvj0gc3wvh/IMG_3519.MOV?dl=0

You can try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the about:addons page.

how can I change the " new tab " homepage

By default Firefox uses a blank page in a new tab. Something you installed changed that to I-PLAY. You need to figure out what changed that, and get rid of it. Start with this. <br />

How do I add the New Tab icon to my Safari toolbar?--it disappeared after I upgraded to Yosemite.

To show your favourites bar where they were previously choose View>Show Favourites Bar. To add a page to your favourites. Click the share button right hand top, square with arrow pointing up. Choose Add bookmarks then adjust to add to favourites.
If you just mean a new tab hit the + button.

  • How can I turn off the new "tabs on top" layout of the new Firefox?

    Dear Mozilla,
Te be honest I was very comfortable with the old Firefox layout and really don't like the new 'Tabs on Top' layout. It's one of the main reasons I hate Chrome.
Is there any way I can turn it off? I haven't been able to find it.
If not, can you direct me to a download page for the previous version of Firefox.
    Thanks and bets regards,
    Chris

I can't help but agree with you, Chris. Computer interfaces are usually analogues for the physical world and it seems that most of the just-newly-adult population has forgotten what GUI cues are meant to be - your mention of tabs' appearing on top is a case in point.
Has the just-newly-adult population forgotten manila folders? You know - those light-cardboard folders that you put pad paper and documents inside; ones that you slip into a filing cabinet, long-edge down, with TABS showing along the now top edge, so that you can read what they contain. Indeed, have you looked, people, Mozillians, at the symbol universally used for File/Windows Explorer? A manila folder!
The edges of manila folders are the tabs that ....wait for it, signify what they contain or represent. Simple. Similarly the just-newly-adult population may have forgotten tabbed diaries. 'Calendar books' with tabs down the opening side that let you select a page somewhere in the diary with information in it described by words or symbols on its tab. Simple!
Tabs should be attached, indeed, be part of, with NO separation from, the pages to which they belong, IMVHO.
Simplify the interface, Mozilla, designed according to good real-world principles.

  • How do I change the new tabs page from google to the thumbnail one?

  • How can I eliminate the "new tab" when I open Firefox to my preset Home Page?

I have Firefox installed on a desktop and a netbook. On the desktop, when I launch Firefox it takes me to my homepage, and that is the only tab open. On the netbook, it opens to the homepage correctly, but there is also a second, blank tab, carrying the header "New Tab", just as though I had clicked on the "New Tab" icon in the toolbar. Since my homepage is a specialized search engine which opens each result in a new tab of its own, having the blank one already in place is annoying. How do I stop it from opening on launch?

Make sure that there isn't a pipe symbol appended to the home page setting.

  • Am I able to customize the NEW TAB window with my own selection of tiles?

Whit this latest update most of my Tiles went away and one of the ones I have shows up on a back page and not on the landing page. I'd like to know how to customize my Tiles (add ones I need)
    Thank you

Hi, in essence, you can just drag a bookmark to the New Tab page - you can also use drag and drop to rearrange them if you wish. There is more in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites#firefox:mac:fx35 this article.]
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I set the New Tab Page so that it only shows my Bookmarks (Like chrome) and not the history ?

Hello, I've recently installed Firefox on my new PC after giving Chrome yet another chance (I've had bad experiences with it) and after seeing crashes everywhere I just gave up. I'm a long-time Firefox user but I've never been able to figure out how to prevent the New Tab Page from showing the Browser's History.
Is there a way to make Firefox show Bookmarks and Folders on the NTP instead ? Also, is there a way to make the Bookmarks bar show on the New Tab Page ONLY ?

The about:newtab page shows pages that you have visited. So if you visit a page by clicking a bookmark then that bookmark will become a history item and will thus appear in one of the tiles on the about:newtab page.
If you want then you can customize the tiles and drag bookmark (and history) items in a specific tile to pin that web page to that tile.
You set the number of rows and columns that appear on the about:newtab page by modifying these prefs on the about:config page via a double-click.
    *browser.newtabpage.columns (3)
    *browser.newtabpage.rows (3)

  • How do you get the new pane window to show websites?

I followed the instructions in the help article, but it still didn't make my preview windows come back. Am i just doing it wrong or do i have a different issue? I just installed kapersky anti virus as well but i dont see any options that would affect the preview tabs. What else can i do?

Yes.When you click on the new tab plus sign, there are preview windows for most used websites. Mine have all disappeared. The silhouettes are there, but they will not populate with any websites. There is a help topic about it, but I followed the instructions and no joy, it didn't work.

  • How do I keep the new tab from comming up all the time?

From email, whenever I click on an attachment, it opens in another window with the tab for the attachment as I expect. But the NewTab TAB opens as well and is the active tab. So I have to click on the attachment tab to view it. Then when done, if I delete the attachment tab , I also have to delete the NEW Tab as well.
This is a recent development and is different from the way things worked before.

  • How do I remove the "new tab" that keeps flashing up when I start Firefox?

The new tab offers links to Twitter, Facebook etc. I don't want this 'service'. This tab slows down the process for me- a total pain in the neck. Thanks in advance, for any help.

Great, thanks for that URL. In an earlier thread it was associated with a "speed dial" or "search dial" extension: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/990420
Unwanted extensions often are installed at the system level as part of a bundle. Therefore, I suggest starting here:
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Next, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    (1) In the left column, click Plugins. If you find a plugin that you don't recognize or which doesn't sound essential, try setting it to "Never Activate". (The most essential Plugin is Shockwave Flash. You can use most sites without the others.)
    (2) In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Finally, you can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Success?

  • How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

    Dear Helpful Open Source people.
I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?
The button is shown in section 3 of "Open a Link in a New Tab" in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-tabs-firefox-android
PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.
