How to turn off iTunes photo "optimization"???

I have been pulling my hair out trying to find a work around for this problem. I am trying to sync several hundred photos to my iPhone. I have the 32GB model so space is no issue. The problem is that when I sync the pictures to my iPhone through iTunes, iTunes "optimizes" the photos. The optimization process reduces the resolution of the photos significantly, the photos were originally taken with my iPhone's camera! so they were not very high resolution to begin with! Why does iTunes work this way and how do I turn the photo optimizing feature off?? I would really like medium or high quality images on my iPhone which I can zoom in on. I really do not like the low quality images iTunes is forcing me to put on my iPhone. There must be an option to turn off this terrible feature...

The iPhone never was intended as a photo storage device. There are hard drives and thumb drives for that. You aren't losing your original quality photos, they are on your computer in iPhoto, Aperture, etc.
Personally, I prefer the ability of the iPhone to be able to show my hundreds of photos (to which I have the original high-res originals at home in iPhoto) on the go, which is the intent of the iPhone, rather than to just show the thumbnail of a few high-res photos I may have taken with my iPhone or elsewhere. This is how the iPhone was designed.
You have 3 things you can do:
1) feedback to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iPhone.html
2) research the features of electronic devices prior to future purchases
3) get a different phone that better meets your needs.

My brother with the iPhone 4 suffers from that too.
    My iphone 5 doesnt however.
But to Stop Launch when your apple device is connected, 1. connect your iPhoneto your computer, 2.Go to the Summary Page, 3. uncheck the box "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" and then your good for that device.

Thank you for your question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

  • How to turn off using photo library in Screen Saver?

Hi, Is there anyway to turn off screen saver (and desktop) in using my photo library (Aperture)?  Currently it is using my entire photo library as screen saver and I wanted to turn it off.  Clicking on the "-" button in the Screen Saver preference pane does not remove Aperture photo library from the list.  I had OS 10.7.3 installed.  Thanks.

The Aperture, iPhoto, and Photobooth icons stay permanently.
If you don't want to show your Aperture library, just pick a different screen saver.

  • How to turn off automatic photo sorting in camera roll?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to turn off the automatic sorting of pictures added to the camera roll? My problem is that I hardly take any pictures of my own using my ipad; instead I like to save funny pictures/memes, screen shots, fan art, etc I find on the internet. I have a ton of those kinds of pictures but the camera roll sorting feature makes it extremely hard to find pics that I JUST added because it sorts them by the date THEY WERE MADE. This is a huge problem because some of those memes are extremely old and I have no idea when they were made, so I end up having to search through hundreds of my pictures by month, years, etc just to find the one I recently added. Is there a way to turn this off so that the photos are just in the order of when YOU YOURSELF added them to your camera roll? For example, in the old version all of my newly added pics would be the very last picture at the bottom of the whole group.
I apologize if there is an easy fix to this problem, but I have not been able to locate one if there is.
I have an iPad 2 and the newest version of ios 7 installed.
    Thanks

One solution is to take a screen shot of the photo. That should make it last in line.
Another solution. Make a new album. Transfer the photos to the new album. Then change the photo order, by tapping select, hold your finger on the photo, move it, tap done.

  • How to turn off iTunes auto-start when iPhone connected?

The option "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" is disabled (grayed out) in iTunes 10. The grayed-out check box is unchecked, yet iTunes starts every time I plug in my iPhone 3G. I would like to be able to plug in my phone without iTunes starting. Is there a way?

Right. Un-checking the preference to prevent auto-sync re-enabled the auto-start option. Then I was able to check and un-check the auto-start option and re-check the prevent auto-sync preference. Now all seems well. Despite appearances (the un-checked option), the internal setting was in the wrong state and twiddling it seems to have set things right.
What a boneheaded user interface, where items on widely separated parts of the UI affect each other invisibly.

I recently turned off iCloud photo sharing and lost all the photos off my iPhone 4S. How can I get them back onto my phone?

IF you have successfully imported your pictures to your Mac http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083  then it's safe to delete it from your phone.
If you want the pics back on your phone, just sync them back using itunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

I've this problem and don't know what to do , i'n trying to follow these steps so i'm asking how to turn off photo syncing and to sync my device

As the article you attached says, "Within iTunes, select the device, then select the Photos pane and turn off syncing."
In other words, once you click on the device in iTunes on your computer (with the iPhone attached), you then click "Photos" near the top and uncheck the "sync photos" box.
Then you sync your device by clicking something in the lower right (it probably says "Apply", but it might say "Sync").

  • I need to free up storage on my iPhone 4s to do an update.  I have turned off my photo stream, but when I go into Usage Settings, it says that photo stream is using 3.7gb of space.  How do I get rid of this?

i need to free up storage on my iPhone 4s to do an update.  I have turned off my photo stream, but when I go into Usage Settings, it says that photo stream is using 3.7gb of space.  How do I get rid of this?

iCloud is not designed to "store" photos (as in long term storage).  iCloud can be used to sync photos from one device to another (photo stream) and to store a backup of the camera roll.  But that's pretty much it.
Camera roll is the group of all photos taken by the device (but not other photos synced to the device from another source).  Your extra storage on icloud will do you no good.  The recommended way of storing photos on a device is to sync them to a computer.
    So, your questions..
    1) You don't/can't
    2) No, because of 1.
    3) On a computer, deleting large groups of photos is relatively painless.  not so on a device.
    4) You can't access photos on iCloud because they can't be store in icloud.  You can't view/access photos in a backup on icloud unless you restore a backup to a device.

  • How can I turn off itunes match on my phone without losing all my playlists?

I have itunes match but want to keep all my music on my iPhone because I travel and don't always have access to the internet.  I upgrades to ios8 and now it seems if I turn off iTunes Match in my phone it get rid of all my playlists.  How can I stop that from happening.  I want my music, and playlist on my phone.

To keep playlists on the phone, create them on the phone
To keep music on the phone, download the tracks before turning off Match.
But turning off Match isn't really necessary. Just turn off Show all music in the music app settings, or do not attempt to play a track that has a cloud icon (i.E. isn't downloaded).

  • HT204406 How can I turn off iTunes match on my mac

I want to disable iTunes Match on my Macbook Pro?   How do I do that?
The main reason is bc I just want to sync all of  my music to my iPad and not have to download it from the cloud one song at a time on my iPad.

    jrhuff -
    Open iTunes
At the top menu select "Store"
Scroll down to "Turn off iTunes Match" (I've already turned mine off so it shows " Turn on iTunes Match") If your's is on, it will say, "Turn off iTunes Match"

  • How to turn off "CD Imported Alert" for itunes

I have a radio show where I play music from my computer while I am importing CDs and I need to know how to turn off the alert sound in itunes that tells me that a cd has been completely imported such that it will not play on my show. I just cannot find the setting to turn it off though. Please help.

If you're doing a radio show, chances are you don't want ANY of the silly sound effects coming through your speakers. At least, I wish everyone doing audio work did that. (I hear that dumb Windows click all the time on the local NPR station.) Anyway, if you go into "System Preferences" and click on "Sound", use the "Sound Effects" tab to set the alert volume all the way to the left (off). And, while you're there, uncheck the 3 radio buttons below about playing sound effects. That should do it.

    iTunes and encrypted backups
You can protect your backup with a passcode using the Encrypt Backup option in the Summary pane. Encrypting your backup will back up your Keychain. This way, email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some applications will be remembered when you transfer to a new device. Learn how tocreate and restore from a backup.
When your backup is encrypted, you'll need to enter the password when enabling or disabling encryption or when restoring from this backup.
