How to turn on icloud on mac desctop

My calendar does not synch with my icloud calendar.  What should I do?

Here's what you can do if your device is stolen: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5668
My condolences.

  • I simply want to know how to turn off iCloud* without losing my contacts

Call me old fashioned, but I really do NOT want to use iCloud EXCEPT for ONE THING*: and that's to find my phone, ipad or laptop if it goes missing.
Having said that, I have figured out how to turn off icloud on my ipad and my iphone (I am not using the phone as a phone, just as a glorified ipod) while keeping the "find my ipad/iphone" function active, BUT
I can't quite figure out how to do it on my laptop.
I seem to have done it already for photos, and for the calendar, (I know this from checking iCloud to see what it's got) but just cannot figure out how to turn it off for contacts.
And YES, I've backed up all of those things at LEAST 3 different ways, I just don't want the Cloud to be one of them.
So can anyone tell me how to turn off contacts in the cloud without it also magically deleting them in my laptop? (I had it happen on the ipad, that's why I'm worried.)
Thank you for understanding-I'm older and this stuff just keeps getting more complicated and I'm a simple person. I'll back up my own stuff!

If you are refering to documents such as Pages and Numbers files....
The only way around this is to "save as" you icloud documents using the associated app to a local folder on your mac.  Then turn off icloud.
Of course, when you sign off of icloud, the docs are removed from the mac, but remain in icloud.  In the future when you sign back in, the documents are available to you again.
Oh, and the icloud documents are also stored locally in ...
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
You can move these files to another folder to save them.

  • HT204053 Hi, how to turn on icloud

Hi, how to turn on icloud on my computer. Thank you very much.

To set up iCloud on your Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud, and follow the steps.
If you don't see it, you may need to upgrade OS X

Verify that by going to www.icloud.com and logging in.

  • HT4759 How can I use iCloud with MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8?

Mobile Me has been discontinued and my under 3 yr old MAC does not have the system requirements to support iCLOUD.  Trying to find an iphone with an app that will work on a MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8.
    Thanks

You're welcome.  In order to connect to your iCloud account on your Mac it has to be running OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher.  You would need to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion in order to set up iCloud if your system meets the system requirements.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion system requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

  • How to turn off icloud

    How to turn off icloud

Thank you. Simple and to the point, after ages of frustration trying to delete it from my MacBook I just had to delete it from my phone. It gives you the option to keep everything on your device, just delete the wireless copy.

  • How to turn off iCloud Mail in my online account

My icloud.com, me.com and mac.com addresses get loads of junk mail so I want to stop using iCloud Mail. I've turned it off on my iMac. my iPad and my iPhone, but can't see a way to turn it off online so that any mail sent to it just goes into a black hole or, preferably, gets bounced back to the sender of junk.
    With thanks

On the iCloud website, set up three Rules (click the cogwheel icon at top right and choose Rules) to move all messages addressed to [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] to the Trash. It will be deleted from there after 30 days.
You can't set up an automatic bounce, but in any case please, never bounce spam. Most spam has forged 'From' addresses so all you are doing is sending yet more spam to totally innocent people (who are probably already getting a lot of bounces because of this) and making a bad situation worse. Even if the 'From' address is genuine, I very much doubt any spammer is going to remove your address from a huge list  (they certainly would get a lot of bounces from actually dead addresses) - and in any case they can probably tell it's not a genuine bounce easily enough, so now you've just confirmed that your address works. Don't bounce it - just delete and forget.

  • How to turn off or restart Mac Mini Server

My magic trackpad quit working but the keyboard still works. I'd like to try to restart or access the system preferences to try turning bluetooth off and on again. but without the cursor, I can't do a thing. Is there a way to control things like restarting or accessing menus with the keyboard?
    Thanks for help

    keyboard shortcuts etc...
control and the disk eject button will bring up the shutdown dialog.
command and spacebar give you spotlight, there you can type 'system preferences' and enter. Typing 'bluetooth' then select the bluetooth setting. Pressing tab will highlight the On checkbox where you can press the spacebar to toggle selection.
Much easier to plug in a USB mouse as den.thed said if you have one handy.

  • I turned on icloud and all my photos from my mac iphoto are gone.  Where did they go and how to get them back in iPhoto

All of my photos are missing from Iphoto on my mac.  I have turned on icloud however my iphone photos are not on my ipad or imac either.  Help.

Do you still see your photos, when you launch iPhoto and not Photos?
Where did you keep your iPhoto Library? In your Pictures folder, as is the default? Or on an external drive?
Look in the folder with your iPhoto Library.
You should be seeing two libraries, if you already let Photos upgrade the iPhoto Library:
Your iPhoto Library, now called .migratedphotolibrary
    and the new Photos library:
are the libraries there? and how large are they?
