How to type Brazilian characters?

Dear Sirs,
I just got my first Apple computer - I live in Brazil, but the model is an imported one. I will need to type in Portuguese frequently but I just have not found a way to type some local characters, basically accented characters like a with a ~ on top or a with an ' accent. I have registered that my computer should use Brazilian Portuguese on the International option, but to no avail. I have tried using on an email on an Internet page, on Ical, on an AppleWorks document and I have read until getting tired on what I could no, but nothing seems to lead me forward. Is there something I can do? Is there some software that I should download?
I will be extremely grateful for an answer that leads me to a solution.
Cordially,
Daniel de Godoy Lopes
Brasilia, Brazil

Daniel,
Welcome to the Discussions!
In the International pane, be sure to enable the input menu and check the Brazilian input option. That way you can select the Brazilian keyboard whenever you need it. The Character Palette (also enabled from the International preference pane) will help you find unusual characters and the Keyboard Viewer (enabled from the same place) will show you where common characters can be typed.
If you want to change the System to run primarily in Brazilian Portuguese, then you could also re-install the operating system and select that as the native language.

  • How to type accented characters?

Somehow I discovered if I type Option-e,e I get e with +accent ague+ (thought not in this text box obviously).
*Where is the list of the rest of them?*
I don't want to use the Character Palette if I can help it since it's pretty tedious when I type a lot of them. I'd just as soon learn the keyboard shortcuts (as I have done with Windows US-International keyboard).
    Thanks for any insight.
    Eric

option+e followed by a letter puts an accent over that letter as you've discovered.
    like this: á é ó
to see the other ones go to system preferences->international->input menu and check the box to show keyboard viewer in input menu. now activate keyboard viewer from the input menu and press option. you'll see where other accents are. they will be highlighted orange.
alternatively, in the same input menu in system preferences check the box to show a language that you are interested in that has those accented characters. then choose that language from the input menu in the menu bar and type using that language layout. the keyboard viewer will again tell you where which letters are.

  • Understanding how to type special characters

We're running Frame 7.2p158 on Windows XP and experiencing unexpected results using keyboard sequences to insert special characters.
    1. Out of my group of 7, 2 writers say that Ctrl+q zero does not insert the multiplication sign in the default font. It works for the rest of us. I didn't believe this until I personally experiment with other combinations listed in the help that do not work on my machine.
    2. On the help page entitled Symbols Page for Windows, there is a list of Alt+Ctrl combinations that are supposed to insert Greek letters. None of these work for me. I have tried pressing Ctrol and alt simultaneously then the letter, as I do with the multiplication sign that does work for me. I have tried pressing Ctrl, then Alt then a letter, I have tried pressing all three at the same time. None of these work.
This makes me think I am missing some simple point, or omitting some step.
Does anyone out there have any idea what?
    TIA.
    Stan Stansbury

If you want to do the same, but also including the possibility to use Unicode do this (FM8!!!):
Hold down the Alt key and hit the + (PLUS) key on the numeric keypad followed by the hex code for the unicode character you want. For letters use the normal keys on the keyboard.
For example, to get permille, enter
    Alt + PLUS + 2030
If you are working on a laptop this becomes extremely ackward since the numeric keypad is often 'hidden' with the use of a function key of some sorts.
    keep smiling

  • How can I type Korean characters with Firefox 4?

I upgraded to Firefox 4 and now I have difficulty typing Korean characters. When I switch my keyboard to Korean and start typing, the characters go to a bar on the bottom of the browser. It is not even a bar for inserting text. There is no insert button and it only allows me to type one syllable block.
I found a temporary, but still frustrating, fix by going View -> Character Encoding -> Customize List and adding one of the Korean character encodings. When I ran out of encodings, it worked simply to click OK, and I would able to type in Korean. But now I can only type in Korean for a few syllables or on one tab before the system reverts to disallowing me to type Korean characters.
Is there something I can do to permanently fix this, or should I resign myself to waiting for an update or downgrading to Firefox 3? I like Firefox 4 with the exception of this Korean character issue.

That is up to Delicious or whoever created their Firefox extension to fix, not something for Mozilla to fix.
See this article which explains how to fix compatibility in the Delicious extension to get it to work in Firefox 4.0.x versions. <br />

    Hi Sandra,
First of all thaks for your quick answer to my problem.
I see what you mean and get the same result, if I am using data-type string instead of xstring. But the recommendation in the XML-Books of SAP is to use XSTRING to save memory and circumflex problems between Codepages, when writing the XML-Stream to a filesystem.
As you can see in the code abvoe I am using a SAP-FM to display the XML-Stream and this FM works only with XSTRING´s,
that is one reason why I don´t understand that it displays it in the wrong way.
Even the Debugger shows me for the XSTRING the wrong result. Does all that mean that the escaping will not be applyed if you are working with XSTING´s??

  • How to display unicode characters

    hi
How could we save, display, write or read Unicode characters.

Thanks a lot. I fully understand what you have said.
My test is running under Traditional Chinese "Big5" Windows XP system.
Chinese "Big5" font can display on a Console window. I can even input Chinese into the console window.
Or, in another word, I can TYPE a text file which contains "Big5" Chinese characters and show from the Console window. I assume this will prove that the Console window do know how to handle Chinese characters.
Now, my test is trying to CONVERT a Unicode string into a Chinese character string expecting the resulting Chinese string can be output into the Console window and let the XP Console window to handle the Chinese character display.
My main concerned question is "How can I CONVERT a Unicode string into a Big5 Chinese character string?"
    String tstr = new String("\u39321\u28207","big5");
It seems this statement is INCORRECT, isn't it?

  • How many types of transactions in ABAP

How many types of transactions in ABAP

    Hi,
    Transactions
The normal way of executing ABAP code in the SAP system is by entering a transaction code. Transactions can be accessed via system-defined or user-specific, role-based menus. They can also be started by entering their transaction code (a mnemonic name of up to 20 characters) in the special command field, which is present in every SAP screen. Transactions can also be invoked programmatically by means of the ABAP statements CALL TRANSACTION and LEAVE TO TRANSACTION. Transaction codes can also be linked to screen elements or menu entries. Selecting such an element will start the transaction. The term "transaction" must not be misunderstood here: in the context just described, a transaction simply means calling and executing an ABAP program. In application programming, "transaction" often refers to an indivisible operation on data, which is either committed as a whole or undone (rolled back) as a whole. This concept exists in SAP but is there called a LUW (Logical Unit of Work). In the course of one transaction (program execution), there can be different LUWs.
Letu2019s have a look at the different kind of transactions:
    Dialog transaction
These are the most common kind of transactions. The transaction code of a dialog transaction is linked to a Dynpro of an ABAP program. When the transaction is called, the respective program is loaded and the Dynpro is called. Therefore, a dialog transaction calls a Dynpro sequence rather than a program. Only during the execution of the Dynpro flow logic are the dialog modules of the ABAP program itself are called. The program flow can differ from execution to execution. You can even assign different dialog transaction codes to one program.
    Parameter transaction
In the definition of a parameter transaction code, a dialog transaction is linked with parameters. When you call a parameter transaction, the input fields of the initial Dynpro screen of the dialog transaction are filled with parameters. The display of the initial screen can be inhibited by specifying all mandatory input fields as parameters of the transaction.
    Variant transaction
In the definition of a variant transaction code, a dialog transaction is linked with a transaction variant. When a variant transaction is accessed, the dialog transaction is called and executed with the transaction variant. In transaction variants, you can assign default values to the input fields on several Dynpro screens in a transaction, change the attributes of screen elements, and hide entire screens. Transaction variants are maintained in transaction SHD0.
    Report transaction
A report transaction is the transaction code wrapping for starting the reporting process. The transaction code of a report transaction must be linked with the selection screen of an executable program. When you execute a report transaction, the runtime environment internally executes the ABAP statement SUBMITu2014more to come on that.
    OO transaction
A new kind of transaction as of release 6.10. The transaction code of an OO transaction is linked with a method of a local or global class. When the transaction is called, the corresponding program is loaded, for instance methods an object of the class is generated and the method is executed.

  • Screen sharing works from home to work but can't type shifted characters

    hi
i can successfully connect to from my home (using macbook or macmini) to my work mac using screen sharing but it seems that i can't type shifted characters like
    @ or _
i can type these characters using screen sharing within the network at work so. any reason why this might be?
    best wishes
    max

I'm having exactly the same keyboard issue.  Certainly nothing has ever enhanced my concentration while coding like suddenly becoming unable to type.
I'm seeing a great many devicemgr and rake errors in my system log.  I don't know if they're related.  How 'bout you?
If you're unfamiliar with the system log…
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
If necessary, choose View > Show Log List.
system.log is at the top of the FILES section.
Try searching it for hot words like DEBUG, FATAL, and aborted.
I've found some discussions that would tend to indicate my errors are postGres related – I'm running OS X server.

  • How to type the symbol ^?

How to type the symbol ^ on a MB Pro 13' AZERTY keyboard ? Thanks.

It is really easy: the ^ is above the 6. But I assume you want to use it with a letter like ê : you do this by holding the Alt)option) key while clicking the 6 key, then let go and type the letter you want underneath it.
I will give some others: alt+e then the letter, alt+u then the letter, etc.
Another alternative: go to SystemPreferences/Keyboard, check the "show keyboard and character viewers in the menubar", they will stay in the menubar as a little flag. When clicking the flag-icon you can either choose the keyboard layout and see where the characters are or the character panel and there you can choose any character that you want: it will insert the character that you click on the spot where your mousepointer is. I made a short list of "favorites" everytime I used this panel.
