How to un-map a Disconnected Drive in Windows 7 that reads as connected

Hello,
I wanted to know if anyone has found a way to un-map a network drive that is mapped with a red X?  When you try to disconnect the drive with the red x, Windows indicates that the drive does not exist.  The only solution is to reboot windows.
If anyone knows how to delete a non-connected X'd out drive that Windows indicates is not connected please let me know?

Thank you for the response.
A reboot of the machine, or having the user log off and back on fixes the issue.  I am looking for a solution that does not require the machine to be rebooted in order to save time.
For example:
We map a O: drive via login script in the office for a laptop.  Once the user takes the laptop out of the office and logs in
sometimes their O: drive is X'd out and sometimes the O: drive is not listed under my computer.  The User then runs a script to delete the O: drive on the laptop after connecting to VPN
(net use O: /delete).  This is run incase there is a O: drive currently connected or X'd out and not connected.  Towards the end of the script script when subst O:/D: is run
sometimes the script fails becasue the drive is currently in use.  When the user tries to disconnect the O: drive windows indicates that the O: drive does not exist.
I am looking for a way to remove the X'd out O: drive that will not disconnect from windows.  Windows indicates that the drive already exists when you try to map another O: drive or substitute the drive.  When you try to disconnect the O:
drive windows indicates that the network drive does not exist but it is still there X'd out.

    Hi,
How did you map the network drive? Manually via GUI? Command? GPP? If you're using one of the above solutions, then try other solutions as a alternative way to check the result.
According to your description, If Windows remains unable to reconnect mapped Network Drive at login, then I would suggest you created a batch file with net use command, use it as an logon script, this provides an alternate way to reconnect drives on
    a re-logon.
    example
    @echo off
    net use * /delete /yes
    net use x: \\server_name\shared_directory_name

Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.

I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

You will get this warning, if your book includes textboxes that still include the default text, like "Insert Title". You need to find these boxes and add your own text.  Look for boxes like this:
Make a PDF-preview of your book and look, where the preview differs from what you are seeing in iPhoto.

  • How can I map a network drive on an iPad once a VPN is established?

I have a new iPad and I am trying to access a network drive once I establish a VPN on my company's network. I can establish the VPN, but I am not sure of how to map a network drive like I do on my MacBook using smb.

Not true.  You can use the app NetPortal https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/netportal-access-files-on/id323133602?mt=8
Does exactly what you want.  There's a free version, netportal lite, that does the same thing but only lets you access PDFs.  Try downloading the free version first to see if you are able to get connected.  I was able to easily on first try once I establised my VPN, ran this app, and entered in the local IP address, username, and password.

  • How can I map a network drive so that it is persistent?

When I use my PB at work, I need to connect to a network drive. Is there a way to map to this drive sutomatically when I boot up at work but not give me any problems when I boot up at home.

Are you connecting to a Windows-based network drive? If so, I can't remember the exact procedure because I've found it actually more difficult to "map to network drive" with PCs.
For the Mac, what I've done is, to save headaches, is made a shortcut to my networked drive on my Dock.
    First, in the File menu:
GO > Connect to Server > Browse > (find your networked drive)
Second, double click on your choice, and what should come up is a new dialog box that says "Connect to Server" with the choice to connect as "Guest" or "Registered User."
Choose "Registered User" type in your login name and password, and click the checkbox for "Remember password in keychain" and then click on the CONNECT button.
Third, if successful, when the drive mounts, drag that to your dock and leave it there.
Then you can access your networked drive any time without having to re-enter your name and password every time. So as long as you did it right.
I don't recommend putting it in your Login Items because it can cause system hangups if for some reason, you aren't connected to your network when you startup. It will hang and search for that drive forever. ("Forever").
Trust me on that part. I've wasted precious time in most cases, waiting for the PowerBook to search for a drive that is not connected.
Also, you can put your networked drive in your "Favorite Servers" section by clicking on the "+" sign with the drive's address typed in. That way you also don't have to find it all the time.
But do the previous tip and you should be fine.
That is, if you are on a Mac to Mac network. I gave up trying to access the PC network because it kept reassigning the IP address and would never remember where it was.
(That's how I got those hangups at startup).

    Hi,
Is there any error message throwed when you reconnect the mapped drive? Can you directly access the UNC path of the mapped drive? What VPN programs do you use? Please check if the VPN client connect correctly.
You could refer to the thread below to check if the AD account is restricted by VPN.

  • I can't map a network drive from Windows 7, using the exact same settings that work fine with Vista or XP

I have Windows 7  64 bit Home Premium, and I can't map a network drive.  I use a Cisco VPN client to connect to my University network, and then when I go to map the drive I get a message that it can't be found.  I have done web research it seems that I am unable to edit the local security settings (apparently you can do this in Ultimate and Professional versions), and that this may be the culprit.  Does Microsoft make some patch available?  My IT people, and the tech help at HP are baffled by this.  If Windows 7 Home Premium does not allow for mapping of network drives, then I'm dumping it and returning to Vista.  Has anybody had similar problems?

Day 2 of trying to map a drive in Windows 7 Professional:
    My journey to ____..
    Begins:
I purchased Windows 7 Home 3xuser license pack for ~140 US I kep hearing friend sayhow much faster it was than Vista 32bit so I thought hey let’s “upgrade”
.. I looked up the definition of the word “upgrade” the following is what I found:
    1.
To exchange a possession for one of greater value or quality; trade up.
    2.
    Computer Science
To replace software or hardware with an upgrade.
    3.
    Computer Science
    a.
To replace (a software program) with a more recently released, enhanced version.
    b.
To replace (a hardware device) with one that provides better performance.
So we,re all clear on what an upgrade is suppose to be. I wanted tomake sure I understood before I proceeded.
I installed a copy on my latptop Toshiba Centrino 1.83 Ghz/3 G Ram decent computer for all intent and purposes. It’s been working fine
on Vista but running slow. So I went through MS “requirements checking” to determine if my computer passed the MS test and worth of such the honor and also get MS’s blessing before I moved forward with the “upgrade”.
I proceeded with the upgrade went relatively smoothly had to uninstall a few programs but I figure that’s such a
small price to pay for such great enhancement that I will receive from my “upgrade”. Approximately 4 to 5 hours later after minimal reboots I was all set to go with my new upgraded OS. It was working as prescribed faster than Vista cleaner
interface sorta, helpful little taskbar gadgets. I was stoked that night I went to be thinking I will go to work and be a rock star on my brand newly “upgraded” computer.
Oh and by the way, I was so thrilled about Windows 7 I even upgrade my home computer as well.
I go into work and I have a very big user migration that night, I am an network engineer and I use my laptop for work I use Visio, Wireshark
and others, all the tools that help us do our job efficiently and effectively.
I sit down turn on my computer it boots faster than Vista and I’m just chomping at the bit to get going have lots of work to do. So let
go back for a minute an look at the definition of “upgrade”
    “3.
    Computer Science
    a.
To replace (a software program) with a more recently released,
    enhanced version.
    b.
To replace (a hardware device) with one that provides
    better performance.”
So were good on what upgrade is?
I have my computer up I have logged in (locally) not on a domain as I was not when I was on Vista OS. I wanted to attach the server to get some
files so I go to map a drive………………. Hmmmph ….. that’s weird I cannot map a drive …… let’s try this again……… hmmmph…. what this domain thing going here I
never need that before in the lesser product Vista but ok I’ll add my
\\servername\folder and my domain.org\username..... hit enter and hmmmmmph …. It ask me for my password again.. well I could have fat gingered it so I’ll type it in reallllllllly slow.. hmmmmmmph ….. again no such luck…
So I decide consult a colleague of mine who recommended I “upgrade” to Windows 7. After speaking with me he tells me oh! You need
Windows 7 Professional to do the same things you did in Vista home … I’m perplexed by this but let’s once more take a look at the word “upgrade” to “enhance
    and/or make better
”. So now I’m a little perturbed by this little bit of information but I suck it up and decide I’ll drop another ~100.00 US on an “upgrade” to Professional small price to pay for such a great product.. I mean have
    you seen those commercial WOW!
I make my purchase download and once “upgrade” to new “upgrade” with even more improvement over Vista and XP I mean
with those two OS’s it took me all of 5 second to map a drive SURELY Windows 7 Professional will map a drive like no one business.
    After
few reboots my computer has been fully “upgraded” and ‘upgrade” again to W7 Pro and I’m off to the races ready to get to work cause my migration will be starting in a few hours and I want to be prepared. Sytsem reboots quickly
I’m logged and ready to start getting my information I so desperately need. I go to map my drive I figure I’ll help W7Pro out I’ll be proactive and use “domain.org\username” that way W7Pro
will like me and think oh! this man is brilliant. I hit enter with my correct password that I type realllllly slow. …… waited it’s thinking for sure this is it .. the anticipation is killing me the excitement is overwhelming …….
THUD my world just came crashing down ..no luck .. no login ..no mapping drives…I’m now on hour 6 of this ridiculous journey to the “upgrade” to “upgrade” ____. So now I’m left to forum because MS surely does not
think I am going to pay them $275.00 and hour for support on something that should have work right out of the box.
So I’m on day to I have tried everything on this forum page to get my mapped drive to work with nothing working for me. It appears that
if I want to use my computer I will have to rolled back to the lesser (Vista).
Just in case you’re wondering how I made it through the user migration. I had my co-worker bring me my XP computer worked like it’s
    was suppose to.

  • How can I access a shared drive in window?

    Hi
I have connected a 320GB hard drive to my Airport Extreme and it is all great. I can access it from my MacBook Air but when going onto Windows I cannot see it? I have tried the 'Map Network Drive' about 50 times and it never works! When looking on Airport Utility (on Windows) and I see it. I've looked at other discussions but they keep on going on about AEPS and such that I have no idea about! Could someone give me a step by step instructions on how to access my shared drive?
    Thanks

Mounting using AirPort Base Station Agent
Launch the AirPort Base Station Agent from C:\\Program Files\AirPort\
Ensure that the task bar menu is enabled from AirPort Disks
Click the AirPort Base Station Agent icon in the Taskbar
Enter the user name and password
Mounting by mapping a Network Drive
Go to My Computer (Start > My Computer)
From the menu, pull down Tools and select "Map Network Drive"
Enter a drive letter that is not in use (for example, "Z")
Enter the path to the drive. This is formatted as: \\IPaddress\drivename (for example, \\10.0.1.1\mydrive)
    Mounting using Server Connection
Select Start > Run and enter the IP address of the AirPort Extreme Base Station (802.11n). (by default \\10.0.1.1)
When prompted, enter a username and password
A window will open containing folders for each hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (802.11n)

  • Unable to map a network drive in Windows 8.1 Professional

I am using a Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet with Windows 8.1 professional.
I was able to setup the domain on the tablet but I am unable to map any drives.
The tablet is shown in Active Directory on our domain controller and I am using an established user name and password.

  • How to install driver for Windows 8.1 without physical connection

I have a Photosmart 7762 printer connected to a NAS box (with wiring all very difficult to get to behind various office units) and want to be able to print to it from a new Windows 8.1 PC that is installed (again with difficult to get to wiring) in a separate room but on the same network.
The HP site for the printer says I have to use Windows Update to get the driver, but this only works if you physically connect the printer to the PC which isn't an easy thing to do in this case.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the driver so I can use the "Have Disk" option? I have been unable to find it anywhere. Alternatively, does anyone know how to copy the driver from an existing Windows 7 install (on a laptop I could connect it to) and whether that would work?

  • How do I fix DFU missing driver in Windows 7?

Trying to update my iPhone 3gs from 4.2.1 to 5.0.1 (won't autoupdate through iTunes, so trying to follow instructions through DFU), but there aren't any drivers for my iPhone for Windows 7 64-bit and I cannot get it updated.  I have tried uninstalling iTunes and re-downloading a fresh copy from the website, repeating the above but doing a disc cleanup inbetween uninstallation and reinstallation, and nothing.  I have also tried different USB ports (6 out of 8 hardwired to the mainboard, 2 are in use for USB keyboard and mouse), no luck.  Am using the cable that came with my iPhone, so it is an official Apple cable and not a cause of the problem.  Also not using a USB hub either, so that is not the issue.

    Nealeh,
Thanks for your suggestion. I read the other post you suggested and it seems Steve had the same frustration watching only 2 of the processors doing all the work. I dont think this is unique. Curious if XP has the same problem as Vista and Win 7.
I did play around with some video. Not as intense as you guys I am sure but I am doing basic video. Get it in and out the other end as a DVD. But I tried something that maybe you could try with your Quad and see what happens. I deal mostly with SD mpeg (.mpg) from my Sony camcorder. I opened up a new project in PE7 and imported 20+ files and then inserted each one to the timelline as quick as I could so they would get backed up waiting to get on the timeline. I got all of the cores to kick in but the total cpu usage was only 50%.
Also I have been converting old Disney movies from VHS through a Pyro AV Link 557. I like simple so I take the AVI and stuff it into Windows DVD Maker, one long 16 GB file or more. I select some text and push burn. Gives about 12 little motion memu buttons automatically. Process to start of DVD burn is 12-14 minutes. I burn them slow so I didn't count that time. I didn't do realtime but tried normal and high options. Didn't kick in all of the cores but the ones that did were parking in and out like crazy. I was not impressed with that. I would think once they kicked in they would stay in but not. Total CPU usage was still only 30-40%
I guess I will have to keep checking on the gamer sites. They seem to be working on the problem. World of Warcraft (WOW) has something built into the program if I read correctly where they can change the Processor Affinity Mask (CONFIG.wtf) but I have trouble following what they are talking about. I don't know if this can be found in Vista or Win7.
Thanks for your response. My graphics card is a GF8400GS. It was supposed to come with EN8400. This one is better?

1st word, so sorry about my poor English !

There are a number of posts related to accessing and/ copying issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup
