How to un-merge contacts and apps?
We have a new iphone 4 in the house. Previously with 4 of them, no problem. Now 3 of them are merging contact and apps. How do I un-merge the phones? I really don't need to see my daughters friends numbers, and any apps she adds appear on my phone.

I have always used my iBook G4 to sync and backup my iPhone 3GS, until the screen went wrong on my Mac.
I managed to salvage the songs off the mac by turning it into a mass storage device (holding T on startup), and I'm currnetly using a Windows 7 laptop whilst saving up for a new Mac.
I'm trying to back up all my contacts and apps to iTunes but as it was initially sync'd to a mac, it is saying that all my apps, contacts etc etc will be lost!
Is there any way to download my apps and contacts (all contents of my iPhone really) to iTunes on Windows if it was originally run via a Mac?
I'm due for an upgrade to the iPhone 4 on Friday and I'd like to get all my stuff backed up before then please!
Can anyone help?Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise your phone will be wiped during the following sync.
Then back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

ThaschorIt has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to move everything to the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone: File>Transfer Purchases
If you enter one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer, then when you first sync you should get the option to merge the data. -

You can use separate AppleIDs for iCloud, iMessage and iTunes - you just need to create unique AppleIDs for the iCloud accounts if syncing contacts that way (you will need an email address that is not already registered as an AppleID though to get another AppleID).
Apps are a different matter in that purchases are tied to the AppleID used to log in to the store to make the purchase. So you can create another AppleID for iTunes as well and use different ones on the different phones, but any apps you have already purchased with your existing AppleID are permanently tied to that AppleID.
Really, unless you are sharing apps, content and such, there is no reason to use the same AppleID on each anyway. So the simplest solution is to create new AppleID(s) for the second device. If you need an email address to do that, just get a gmail account (or hotmail, yahoo or any other free email account). -

In this case you would have to reset your new device (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings) in order to restore it from a backup during the device setup.

How do I go about keeping Contacts and Apps Separate on 2 Smartphones on my Account?
I may be over thinking this. I have two phones, a Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 active on the same account each having their own phone number. When backing up and storing contacts and apps, I would like to keep each separate from the S3 and vice versa. Do I have to create separate gmail account and google play account? Also when backing up on the S3 it says I have to login using my Verzion account, but I do not want that info on the S3. Thanks
For backing up through MyVerizon, you DO need a separate MyVerizon login for each number. The primary phone will have access to both lines for adding/removing features etc, but NOT to the contacts and ringtones/ringbacks/music purchased for the other line. TO set this up, log out of MyVerizon, then REGISTER the other number for a username and password. If it says the account is already registered, clear cookies and cache, or use another browser to set up the second account.
You can then run and use backup assistant for each number, keeping contact lists and media purchases separate.
It probably would be better to have a separate Google account for each device as well. I have my tablet (Samsung Galaxy 7") and phone (Motorola Droid 4) on the same Google Apps so I can load apps on both (or one or the other) from the playstore on my computer. But in your case, it would make more sense to have separate accounts for the two lines. -

We do this in my family now. We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores). Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud. That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup. That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice. You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.

Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response. What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures. Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures. 1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

How do I sync contact and calendar info from my iPhone into Outlook on my PC? The iPhone User Guide suggests that you can only sync from the PC to the phone. Is there a way to reverse the direction?
The sync process for contacts and calendar events with a supported app on your computer is a bi-directional or true sync process.
There is a way to replace on the iPhone with what is available in the supported application on your computer but not the other way around.
If the supported application on your computer includes contacts and calendar events and the same with your iPhone, with the first sync for this data you will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. -

Just be cause the account was disabled (Apple ID) doesn't mean you can't reset the password and have access to your iTunes purchases.
Use the iforgot link to reset your password > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears

From Contacts, anyway (the new version of Address Book) you can export to a .abbu file and import then into Outlook. I'm not sure about Mail as I only really use Outlook...
