How to uninstall a DMG application

My question is just what it says. How do you uninstall a DMG application?
Please don't say "Just drag it to the trash" because that's not uninstallation.
I installed Adobe Reader and found it was slower than Preview, so I was looking for a way to uninstall it.
I did drag it to the trash and had it gotten rid of, but there are traces of the program on my Mac and I'm not happy with it.
Any ideas?
Some people suggeted that I use APPCLEANER but obviously others think it's crap, and I wouldn't trust a third-party app to find out another app's system files and delete them properly.
And please don't say "You don't need to get rid of those because it does you no harm," because I want them removed.

Some people suggeted that I use APPCLEANER but obviously others think it's crap, and I wouldn't trust a third-party app to find out another app's system files and delete them properly.
Well that would be your loss because I use a number of 3rd party apps to delete other apps and they work fine. You already know about AppCleaner, which is free. There are also two paid apps; AppZapper, that makes a cool zap sound when it deletes the files you allow. And there is AppDelete.
Or you can go on a hunt for files yourself with the free app FindAnyFile.
But of course the best is the other suggestion here, to use an uninstall program if the developer provides one.

Edit your first post's Subject to be prefixed by [SOLVED].  I read through the whole thing, and realized it was fixed already.
Btw, I'm a newb as well.
So two lessons here.  I just wanted to emphasis what I do in these circumstances.

You ran the "install.sh" provided from that site?  How many dozen errors did it throw?  It's got several debian-specific commands (apt-get, dpkg).  That would completely fail.

+1 this. Before I run "any" script, I always open the script and inspect it.  99 out of 100 times, it is Debian-specific (aptitude's "apt-get" is a dead giveaway).  In these cases, you are on your own to install it manually by reading each line in the script and executing it.  Welcome to Arch (the same if you were installing on CentOS as well, since it was written for Debian).
    Unless.....

Personally, I've started to lean onto the AUR process over manual installs.  If it hasn't been "ported" to Arch via AUR, I've started to remove them from my toolbelt.  Lightening the load, I guess you could say.
Until you get a lot more familiar that is.

Hi Deliane, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Generally you run the Installer for that one again & see if it has an Uninstall option.
    Another method, AppDelete...

  • How to uninstall adobe_flashplayer_e2c7b_Setup.dmg?

    Hey,
So I was doing a test with my girlfriend online that was referenced from a book written by a wellknown author. Anyways, it popped up with an update from Flash, so I was skeptical at first, but then downloaded and it refreshed to a "You may have a virus" popup and a page that said the same thing... I went through this article: (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support) and I don't believe I have anything like those on here. I am unsure of what to do next as I don't know if I do or do not have this malware on my computer. Thank you for your time.

  • How to uninstall Adobe CS5 applications

    Hi,
I joined Adobe Creative Cloud and installed some of the applications. Now I have CS5 and CS5 versions.
Some applications have uninstall exectuable file to uninstall the programs. But some don't. What would be
the good way to uninstall the applications?
Do I just delete the folder? Will that be a clean uninstall?
    Thanks.

Commonguy101 are you trying to remove the Creative Suite 5 version of the software which is installed?
In regards to the uninstall process this will be dependent on which operating system you are using.  What operating system do you have installed?  In general just deleting the folder which contains the Adobe application will not remove the software and can cause future issues with installing Adobe applications in the future.

  • How to uninstall third party applications?

I'm trying to free space in my hdd, and would like to uninstall some old 3rd party apps I rarely use.  How do I do this?

I ended up doing this with an old Parallels and Windows XP install that I only used once.  My only worry with sending the app to the trash bin is that I might be missing related files or folders buried deep in the Library or System folders.  I of course trashed the "Parallels" folders in each of these as well, but I still get a nagging feeling that something went unnoticed.

  • How To Uninstall Background Apps Installed With CC

    Hello,
I attempted to install the PhotoshopCC onto a Windows OS7 computer - which went drastically wrong. I performed an uninstall - yet that left a background app that now runs even though I have no Adobe applications running.
How do you uninstall the background application and all other components installed with the PhotoshopCC installation?
I have been on hold for chat support multiple times for multiple hours - never getting a chat representative.
I have called the support number multiple times and put on hold for hours - never getting a support rep.
I do not want to pay $39 for a call-back to simply to find out how to uninstall this background application.
I have searched the Adobe Support Forum for answers, and found that other people have similar issue, yet unable to find answers.
I have been using numerous Adobe products for over 15 years through my work. Never experienced this amount of problems in product and support prior to this situation.

click start>control panel>programs>uninstall programs and uninstall all adobe cc programs.
    then run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    restart your computer
any problem?  if so, state specifics.

"You can delete applications you’ve installed from the App Store. If you delete an

even if you reinstall the application.
You can reinstall any application and any associated data from your iTunes library
as long as you backed up the application by syncing to your computer. If you try to
delete an application that hasn’t been backed up to your computer, an alert appears.
    Delete an App Store application:
1 Touch and hold any application icon on the Home screen until the icons start to

  • How to uninstall downloaded application on N97

can anyone tell me how to uninstall downloaded applications on N97. Its a new mobile i have bought and new to his world of smart phones. thanks.

GPS on the N97 seems problematic for many. It can be very slow and not very accurate.
I have been working with an app developer to try and track down a bug I reported with their program regarding GPS which we found and they have now corrected. However, in the process, they discovered a bug in Nokia's GPS system itself and reported it. I know Maps 3.1 have just been re-released so maybe they have fixed it.
I have a permanent data connection active so don't get asked about the connection when I load Maps. My partner uses a 5800 and don't go online with it using the mobile network and the mapping doesn't work properly. If they connect to a network, all seems fine.
Sorry to be a bit vague but I don't use GPS much.

  • How to uninstall application in mac?

how to uninstall application in mac?

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind 4.9, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper 2.0.1
    AppDelete 3.2.6
    Automaton 1.50
    Hazel
    AppCleaner 2.1.0
    CleanApp
    iTrash 1.8.2
    Amnesia
    Uninstaller 1.15.1
    Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

    how to uninstall application?

You can just drag it to the Trash, if it doesn't come with an uninstaller. If it comes with an uninstaller, use that. I also use a little app called AppDelete to get rid of auxiliary files that may be left behin by simply dragging an app to the Trash. There is a 'free' version called AppCleaner. Some people use these apps, some are vehemently opposed to using such apps - I've never had any trouble.
