How to uninstall an unknown addon/plugin/program

A couple of months ago I saw a add on? plug in? which lists the companies (like Doubleclick) that are tracking me as I browse. I installed it and it took over the right part of my screen with a list of trackers. I now would like to get rid of the tracking, but I don't know what it was called. I don't see it under the list of add ons or plug ins, nor in the control panel under the list of installed programs. *4.0.60129.0 listed below is apparently a silverlight plugin
Any idea how to get rid of this thing without remembering its name?

As you suspect, 4.0.60129.0 is the Microsoft Silverlight plugin.
As for the add-on, you appear to be describing the Ghostery extension. For details of how to uninstall it, see the section on uninstalling extensions at https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • How to uninstall the "default" Firefox plugins?

I installed firefox from the extra repo. Sadly, it came with a bunch of plugins preinstalled (e.g., a Windows and Quicktime plugin). Primary reason I moved to Arch was to be able to install only what I want. This is not conducive to that.
Anybody know how to uninstall the plugins?
I read pacman manual and played around with pacman -Ql and -Qi etc. I also tried looking for some package that contained all the plugins. But I wasn't successful.

  • How to uninstall Firefox if Add/Remove programs won't work?

My Firefox is completely unresponsive. I can't get a browser or anything. I just grabbed the application folder and threw it in the trash, because the add/remove program function did nothing. I also cannot download the newest version of Firefox. It tries, but then says, "Your download was interrupted".
How can I make sure I've removed ALL of the old Firefox and what can I do to download the new one?

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • How to uninstall PlugIn "OpenH264 Video-Codec" ?

How can I uninstall "OpenH264 Video-Codec"-PlugIn from my PC ?
Every other plugin could be uninstalled from the source folder.
As user I would chose for my own, which plugin I want to install on my PC, but I do not want to be
forced to have a plugin installed on my PC, which I could not uninstall if I want to.
I do not even know if I am in need to use "OpenH264 Video-Codec"-PlugIn or not.
And since this plugin is installed in the plugin folder, I have some technical problems
to use firefox and to chose websites from internet.
Please send me some information how to uninstall "OpenH264 Video-Codec"-PlugIn.

    Hello the-edmeister,
thanks for your support and your answer.
If I would delete the file gmp-gmpopenh264.dll, it should solve this
problem for first, but if mozilla updates a new firefox version, it seems
to be there for the next time, and I appreciate to have not this plugin
    on my PC.
I think this is something unusual for a serious firefox user, that for every
time for new, this file gmp-gmpopenh264.dll have to be deleted, if I do
not want to have it on my PC.
But I prefer not to have this file gmp-gmpopenh264.dll automatically
    installed.
If someone is interested in to install this file gmp-gmpopenh264.dll
for using it, there should be another way to download and to install,
but not to have it automatically on a PC, and to read somewhere in
internet, that this file is something about adware or malware.
I want to please mozilla.support, not to install this file gmp-gmpopenh264.dll
    anymore with forthcoming updates.
    Thank you.

  • How to uninstall conduit

    How to uninstall conduit

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
If you are running Tiger or Leopard:
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    Library/Application support/conduit plugins
    Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:
Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".
Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My iTunes is no longer working.  I uninstalled and reinstalled but the program won't open and run.  I was trying to download an mp3 file last evening and I think something has been deleted that I need to open the iTunes.  How do i figure out what is gone

I uninstalled and reinstalled but the program still won't open.  I was trying to download an mp3 file last evening.  Instead the site tried to install a new audio player.  I did not want it so uninstalled it immediately.  I think in that process something was deleted that I need for iTunes but I do not know what.  How do i figure out what is gone and recover it?
I did try a system restore - but that was not a fix either.

I was trying to download an mp3 file last evening.  Instead the site tried to install a new audio player.
Ackk ... that behavior is consistent with the play_mp3.exe trojan:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_mp3.exe
Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)

Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

  • HT4673 how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
Theres a couple ways to uninstall programs. The launchpad is the rocket icon on the dock. If you open that you should see your apps spread out as icons as if it would be on a iphone or other iOS device. If you just click the icon with your mouse button and continue holding the mouse button the will shake and show the X. If you click that X it will ask if you want to delete the program. This only works for programs downloaded through the APP Store. If a program does not have an X then proceed to the next way of uninstalling
-- The way to delete a program that will not delete the previous way is as followed:
    Open finder
    - On the left side you will see applications > Click that
    - Then you will see all the programs on the right side.
    - If you click on the program and drag it to your trash bin it will ask if you would like to make changes and delete.
    - Just make sure not to delete anything that was preinstalled with you Mac

Also if you install JRE 1.4.1_01 and do not choose to install the browser plugin on the browers prompted ... does it not install the plugin?

    In IE

This removes the ActiveX control (plug-in) from the browser but doesn't delete the JRE.

  • How to uninstall programs on Mac OSX

I just switched from PC to Mac, and I have no idea how to uninstall programs.
Im thinking you just drag the app to the trashcan, but does that remove all the files, or is there another way?

    Hello,
Preference files (.plist) are left in
~/Library/Preferences if you want clean those out too
(I dont like anything left over). Sometimes other
Yes, some people don't like the slightest trace left behind. But, for the novice user, the PLIST files are not a big deal. They don't take-up much space, and are not worth accidentally deleting the wrong file for a novice.
files are left (cache folders and application
folders) that need to be removed too.
Fortunately, that is done quite easily by running maintenance programs like OnyX that clear out the caches:
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
I used to do it all manually (using spotlight
    search), but recently found AppZapper
(http://appzapper.com/) and use that. Worth every
penny and does a great job clearly everything out.
Never used that program. It sounds convenient. But, I'm a bit cheap. I won't pay for anything I can do for free
But moving the program to the trash does "uninstall"
the program. However some large ones (like Adobe
Photoshop and Dreamweaver) install things all over
your system, so just deleting them from Applications
    wont remove everything.
Yes, there is the occasional program like that. I'm happy to say that they are the minority. I don't like programs that scatter stuff about.

I bought a macair book. I have no experience of using Mac. can anyone till me how to uninstall programs?

By the way, be cautious about uninstalling any programs that Apple shipped with the computer, especially if you are new to the Mac.
For stuff you installed yourself, PlotinusVeritas' method works fine for many programs, but anything that came with an installer probably needs a more complicated uninstallation process. So do some programs that start off installation by drag-and-drop.

  • Three days ago I replaced an earlier Adobe Flash with version 10.1.85.3. This has not appeared in the list in Tools/Addons/Plugins to permit me to enable it in Firefox, and I can't find the answer in the knowledge base.

    Re. installing/enabling a Flash plugin
1 I'm running Firefox version 3.6.10 on Windows XP SP3.
2 Three days ago Secunia PSI informed me the installed version of Flash was a security threat so I uninstalled it then installed the latest version 10.1.85.3 . It appears in the Control Panel add and remove programs listings.
3 As of 2 days ago BBC iplayer keeps telling me I need to install (latest version of?) Flash.
4 I don't have this problem using my fallback Internet Explorer.
5 Assuming I needed to enable Flash in Firefox I went to Tools/Addons/Plugins but Flash is not listed there.
6 Firefox Support/Knowledge base/Installing the Flash plugin doesn't help - in step 2 I don't see the yellow 'Additional plugins are required...' bar when I go to the Adobe test page, but then why should I, it's already installed.
    6 What's going on - please help!

I have the same problem as luiszamarreno. I tried using the following to update:
sudo apt-get --purge remove adobe-flashplugin flashplugin-nonfree; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Now I have the "flashplugin-nonfree" v. 10.01.218+really9.0.283.0ubuntu1 and it still doesn't work for the Facebook plugin. I get the notice it has crashed and needs to be updated. I also get a notice to update on the plugins page under tools --> addons. When I try that, it goes to the Adobe Web site, which I have seen on Ubuntu support sites that I do not want to upgrade from there.
Does anybody have an answer to this?

  • How to uninstall just the QTPlugin.ocx?

I'm trying to do the remove the Quicktime browser add-on so that when I click on an mp3, it opens with my default mp3 player, and not in my browser window. It should prompt me to open or save like it did before I update my version of iTunes.
First, I went into the QT control panel and changed the MIME types and file associations, and unchecked every single type that it would allow me to uncheck (it wouldn't let me uncheck "Quicktime Movie" or "Quicktime Movie" again). I closed and reopened all open apps (including the browser) and it still tries to load the mp3 in the browser. Which is not what I want it to do.
Next, I went into IE's Internet Options, to the Manage Add-Ons section, and disabled the Quicktime Object (QTPlugin.ocx). Closed and restarted everything, and it's the same thing except now after the mp3 downloads in the browser, it just displays a red x.
How can I entirely uninstall the Quicktime browser plugin? Why did it get installed in the first place? I just wanted iTunes. I didn't want Quicktime to take over my browser.

It sounds to me like it is being re-registered; when u unregistered, did u remove or rename the .ocx?
    windows, as you know has many layers, with too many auto-things; (it is also possible that there are more copies of the qtplugin.ocx);
    there are always many ways to accomplish the same thing in windows;
2 other quick ways to accomplish the same thing:
    1 - from windows explorer (or `my computer`); make sure that nothing is hidden (tools->options->view) make sure that u have `show all hidden files and folders` checked, and `hide protected system files` unchecked;
    - navigate to: c:\windows\downloaded program files
    - look for the plugin, right click->remove
(if u only see those long numbers (classIDs) then right-click->properties to see the details so u know which one to remove)
    2 - you can use any of a wide variety of 3rd party anti-spyware software to remove the plugin, because they allow removal of almost all .ocx files (found under the `ActiveX` category); e.g., with the (free) `spybot search and destroy` from safer-networking.org, if you choose Mode->Advanced, tools-activex, u are able to remove it;
as I said, there are many ways to accomplish the same thing; if neither of these help, would u want to contact me directly? hopefully we can resolve the issue, and then report the findings/solution here for everyone
