How to uninstall associated programs?

Hi there, I deleted a program from my computer. I then re-installed it as a bundle package..dragged the whole folder to the apps folder.
When I re-started the program it maintained all of my previous settings that I had configured. How do I COMPLETELY un-install something...with all the associated programs, so that when I do re-install it, i'll be asked all the same initial questions I was asked the first time
Thanks
George

Most preferences are stored in ~/Library/Preferences and most programs store some support files in ~/Library/Application\ Support
You can try starting the program while running fs_usage in a terminal. You can also try a program called fseventer (you will need to download it). Also fs_usage needs root privalage.
sudo fs_usage > filesystem.txt
That should give you an idea of the files the program uses. Expect a HUGE output.

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How to uninstall the program "Utilities" from the Satellite A210

How can I unistall the program "Utilities" from the Satellite A210. In the control panel I can uninstall the program "Value Added Package" but not "Utilities".
With the A210 I can't work with the FN keys and on a German Toshiba help website I have found this information:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UR0000R01DE.htm
So I will try this sequence of installation:
    - Chipset Utility
    - Display Driver
    - Toshiba Value Added Package V1.2.40
    - Flash Cards Support Utility for Satellite L500 (see this thread why I want it to do):
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46135&tstart=7
    - Toshiba-Utilities V1.0.25.5C
    and probably
    - Hardware Setup V2.00.09
I hope the FN keys will work after this sequence of installation.
    John

    Hi again John
So here a little bit theory:
After clean OS you must install all necessary drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities. Just when everything is installed properly you will have well working operating system. Problem is that you cannot install all this in some alphabetical sequence but following right installation order.
I don't have Satellite A210 and cannot offer you exact installation order but it must be something like this one:
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -LAN/WLAN driver
    -supervisor utility
    -Synaptics touchpad driver
    -Card reader
    -Webcam driver
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -Toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
    -Toshiba assist
    Please note
VAP is package with follow applications:
    - Toshiba Components Common Driver
    - Toshiba Utilities
    - Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool
    - Toshiba Power Saver
    - Toshiba Button Support
    - Toshiba Zooming Utility
    - Toshiba Flash cards
As far as I know you cannot remove one single application. What I always do is to remove whole VAP and after notebook restart I start VAP installation again but not as standard installation. I use custom installation. There you can choose which application should be installed and which not.
To be honest I have very good experience with Win7 installation and if everything is installed properly you should be able to use flash cards with FN button.

  • I am new to mac can you tell me how to uninstall a program?

I purchased Office for MAC and it's terrible. In order to get a refund I have to uninstall it from my computer. Being from a PC I am not sure how to completely uninstall the program.
Can comeone tell me the steps to do this?
    Thanks

Some programs, including most versions of MS Office, have an uninstaller app. Use it, since it will ensure all its pieces are correctly removed. If you cannot find Office's uninstaller or if the version you have does not have one, follow the instructions here:
How to completely remove Office for Mac 2011
For apps that do not have an uninstaller, merely dragging its icon to the Trash is sufficient. Drag the icon from the Applications folder, or wherever it happens to be installed - not the Dock.

I have  installed the fitbit program a few weeks ago on my mac book pro and now i want to uninstall the program and i dont now how and i cant work out how to, as I am new to the mac books?

I was having the same problem.  Just successfully uninstalled Fitbit off my MacBook Pro using Brithead's technique of downloading the original installer and selecting uninstall.  You can find it here:
    http://www.fitbit.com/start
If you use BrianG2K's suggestion, it'll delete the Fitbit program, but won't remove Fitbit from the top menu bar.

  • How to uninstall a program in Leopard...?

For a new mac user, how do you uninstall a downloaded and installed third-party software/program? Do you just move it from applications to trash? Thank you in advance.

If it has an installer, use that. If you just dragged it into the Applications folder or some other place, drag to the Trash, and delete. Also, open /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ and delete any .plist file or folder associated with the app or developer. There might also be stuff in /Library/Application Support/ and ~/Library/Application Support/, where the tilde indicates your home folder.

  • How to uninstall antivirus program on Mac Air please

Hi I have Mac Air OS X 10.9.4 and wanted to download McAfee antivirus program which requires removing my now defunct Sophos Antivirus.  I have removed all Sophos files (per my computer) into the trash but still am told McAfee cannot download because there is still an old incompatible antivirus program.  Please help.  I am now unprotected.  There is a Sophos "logo" in the tool bar but I don't know how to remove it...and it will not function when opened.  Thanks much!

From Removal tools for Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac:
In some situations you may be unable to run the built-in Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac (SAV for Mac) uninstaller.  This article provides a standalone tool to remove the installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac
Common reasons for needing this tool are:
If the product has been deleted (e.g., dragged to the Trash) rather than correctly uninstalled.
Where the uninstaller is unable to run due to a corrupted receipt file.
Download, expand, and run the applicable uninstaller for the Sophos product you installed.
    Do not install McAfee.

  • How to uninstall unwanted programs on Office 365 ProPlus

    Dear Sir,
I use Windows 8.1 and use Office 365 ProPlus. When I install it, the Office is streamed and installed as a whole in my computer.
How can I remove the unwanted program (like Access) ?
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    The setup.exe version is 15.0.4623.1001
I also use your configuration's content to test, but it still get the same error.
It refers to below link :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696484/en-us
As a test I tried this:
    <Configuration>
    <Add SourcePath="" OfficeClientEdition="32" >
    <Product ID="VisioProRetail">
      <Language ID="en-us" />
    <ExcludeApp ID="Visio" />
    </Product>
    </Add>
    </Configuration>
This installed VisioPro, with the Visio application "Excluded".
The end result = VisioPro was "installed" without the Visio "application".
(yes, it's kind of a stupid test, but it verified the syntax on the XML file)
To make this work, I needed to uninstall VisioPro first.
You may need to uninstall/reinstall Office, since your Office installation state may be inconsistent?
[if you do this, apply your modified XML file during the reinstallation (/configure) phase]

  • Ok - Now how to Uninstall a program

So I've downloaded and installed a program but I now want to uninstall it.
    Advice! Haha??
    Andy

For the most part, just drag the application to the trash. Some applications come with uninstallers under "options" on the installer.
The reason for this is that in Mac OS X most associated files are kept in the application package itself. If you choose any app then "control-click" on it, you can choose "Show package contents" from the contextual menu and you will see all the associated items.
You can also do a Finder or Spotlight search for any other items but they will probably only be prefs which will do no harm and don't take up much room.
These are ususally just plist files in Users/yourname/Library/Preferences . Also some apps will install files in Users/yourname/Library/Application Support.
Note: Some apps may also put a file in /Library/Startup Items or SystemPreferences >> Accounts >> Login items. (So, it worth a look here too)

  • How to uninstall a program in the macbook?

    Any answers?

Thats right Trevor. If you re-install OSX, you can select what programs you want on your HD.
You can also get a program called AppZapper it costs $12 but it has gotten great reviews. Here's the link...
    http://appzapper.com/
Lastly, you can go to the "Spotlight" and search for the program you want to uninstall or delete, select the files from Sportlight, and send them to the trash.
    Hope this helps,

  • How do I uninstall software programs?

I recently purchased an iPhone and use iTunes and MobileMe to sync programs. I am trying to uninstall some software programs that I no longer use such as Blackberry Desktop Manager and PocketMac. Can someone please tell me how to uninstall these programs. Thanks.

You can't just drag them to the trash?
There are third party software uninstallers if you want to make sure you clean up the stray preference files that get installed with certain apps.
I generally recommend AppZapper, but there are others, CleanMyMac for example. I like AppZapper because it is a straight up uninstaller and not anything else.
Give it a Google search, I'm sure there are more than that.

  • How to uninstall APC Power Chute

I recently installed 10.6.8 on my core duo iMac. Not knowing that APC no longer supports Mac I mistakenly installed the Power Chute backup disc. Now I can't uninstall it because the APC uninstaller doesn't recognize my system password, which does work for every other app. I even changed the password but to no good end. Does anyone know how to uninstall this program? Thanks.

You will need to contact APC, they have an application they can send you from their Tech Support that will run an uninstall routine. It's a pain to get rid of but that's the only way I'm aware of getting rid of it.

I've used the uninstall wizard but the programs are still there. I've also noticed that in the computer control window, the uninstall icon is gone.

Either post your question there, or on a Windows forum as your issue not really related to anything Apple.

How do I uninstall a program that is running in the background but does not show in Force Quit?

Open Activity Monitor and look for the program.  Select it and Quit or Force quit it from within Acitiviy Monitor.
Search for the application with Find Any File as it can search areas that Spotlight can't, like invisible folders, system folders and packages.  You can drag the app and any associated files from the search result window to the Trash bin in the Dock.
