How to uninstall iPhoto 6

Dear Forum,
How do I uninstall iPhoto 6.0.6? I can't find a Add/Remove application or an uninstall program.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve
New to the mac?
Just drag it to the trash. Empty the trash. End of story.
Are you doing this to update? If so, it's not necessary.

Why do you want to uninstall iPhoto 11?  If you intend to go back to iPhoto 09 you will have to have a copy of the library before it was converted to the 11 format.
If you don't have an 09 library you can revert to, you can revert an 11 library to 09 using  iPhoto Library Manager. See Robert Fischer's post in this topic:  Reverting to iPhoto '09?: Apple Support Communities

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto from my MacBook Pro? It won't let me shut down my computer cause it keeps telling me to wait for my images to import, but there isn't anything importing...?

I can't shut my computer down side my iPhoto app is telling me that it's importing pictures, but not is happening & I wanted to uninstall iPhoto to see if that would work. Please some one help me! This is annoying.

The "Importing" message can be cause by a corruption of your iPhoto library - then uninstalling will not help. Try this:
    Force Quit iPhoto:
From the -menu in the upper left corner of the screen:   > Force quit ⌥⌘⎋
Then select iPhoto from the panel.
Then fix your iPhoto library and remove the "Importing" folder from the library  -
see this post by LarryHN how to do it:

Do you have the current MacOS X version 10.10.2?
Then you can simply move iPhoto from the Applications folder to the Trash,
sign into the App Store with your own AppleID
reload the "Featured" main page of the AppStore with ⌘R,
then download iPhoto with your own AppleID.
Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before your launch the new iPhoto the first time,
If your current system is not Yosemite, you can only buy a boxed iLife 11 version of iPhoto to install it independent of the previous owner.

How to uninstall and reinstall iphoto

I found a way to edit a command line that was supposedly going to manipulate the program to make my modified photos save as the originals.
Do you mean you modified the application (program) or the library?  If it's the application reinstall the app from the App Store. If you just modified the library then you'll have to do what Larry recommends.
You could try rebuilding the library as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
If the rebuild library isn't any better than the current library you can trash it.

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto following a rubbish update.

My wife and I recently accepted the latest download for iPhoto, no choice! Following that, iPhoto does not work on either our MacBook Pro or our iMac.
Apple, forever helful told me to eith pay £200 for support or get it off the internet. Basically I need p[lain English advice on how to remove iPhoto and re-install it. Can you please help?

Well if the new Library works it tells us that the problem is with the old Library and not with the app.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto 5 and reinstall iPhoto 4 in Tiger

I would like to uninstall iPhoto 5 and go back to iPhoto 4. I am using a Pentax Optio S4 Camera and have 3500 pictures in iPhoto 5 and am very unhappy with the performance since upgrading to iPhoto 5. I have read others are also having problems with certain cameras because of EXIF information used to create Maker Notes. With iPhoto 4 my system was very responsive, fast, and reliable. I've decided that the functionality of iPhoto 4 out weighs the features I will loose with iPhoto 5. So, I am wondering what the process is to uninstall iPhoto 5 and reinstall iPhoto 4. I am running Tiger 10.4.3. Has anyone else done this?

    Hi xjfo,
To go back to an older version of iPhoto, you must have a backed up Library from that version. An older version of iPhoto will not open newer versions libraries.
If you have newly imported photos in your 5 library that are not in your backed up library you will need to share/export them now. Export the Original to the desktop. These can be imported once you are back in the older version of iPhoto.
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all of the iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash
Navigate to ~/Pictures and drag your iPhoto 5 Library folder to the desktop. You can keep it on your hard drive in another folder, or you can rename it and keep it in the Pictures folder, or you can move it to an external for safe keeping or you can burn the entire iPhoto Library folder for safekeeping.
Insert your older iLife CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install.
    Install iPhoto
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version. that means if you installed 4 there should be some updated version of 4
Put your backed up iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder. If it is named iPhoto Library then it should open when iPhoto is launched.
If you renamed it, then launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and have it open the library you navigate to.
If you don't have a backed up version of the iPhoto Library of the version you want to install then you have a lot more steps to do.
If done this way, all albums, keywords, folders will have to be redone because you are starting from scratch with a new library and importing these photos into the new library.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your old iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • I have used Adobe Photoshop for some time and want to continue with it. Would I be wise to uninstall iphoto before installing adobe on my new Mac?

I have loaded about 100 pictures into iPhoto on my new Mac (old PC user) but now am certain that I want to continue with Adobe Photoshop which I have used for quite some time. Should I uninstall iPhoto completely as well as removing the IPhoto Library? Please tell me how best to proceed so as to avoid conflicts.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

I currently have Elements 9, but as I said I am a complete novice on the Mac.
When I bought the Mac, I had all of my photos already on an external hd for securitiy purposes, and have since moved them onto the Mac hard drive. I have not yet imported them into iPhoto, although, as I mentioned above I have loaded some pix into iPhoto from a camera just to see how it works. Also I have not yet installed Elements 9 on the Mac.
If I use IPhoto as the program to upload from the camera, do the photos go directly into iPhoto Library?
Does the library function the same as my storing them in My Pictures/My Documents, etc on a pc? Can I move pictures about within the iPhoto Library?
What is the advantage of using both programs simultaneously? If, as TeenTitan mentions above, I could put iPhoto back into the applications folder and not use it at all, and then use Elements 9 as the total package, what features, etc., would I lose?
If I choose to move iPhoto into the app folder, is it a simple matter or dragging it back? If not, how should I do it?
Thanks for your patience. I just want to get off to a clean start with my pictures.

  • I want to uninstall Iphoto Library Manager without losing all my Iphotos

I recently purchased Ilife 6 and I have Iphoto Library Manager on my computer. I'd like to dump the Iphoto Library Manager becuse the idea of third party software working with my photos (unsupported by Apple) scares me. Question, if I uninstall Iphoto Library Manager, will that have any impact on the 6000+ photos in Iphoto that are also in files in Library Manager. (unfortunatley, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how the Iphotos link into Iphoto Library). If so, how do I get rid of Library Manager and keep my Iphoto Library intact?> Thanks, Ed
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks, that did work indeed! While I'll take your word that it is good software, I was paranoid that if something went wrong Apple Support doesn't support it, and I'd be in a bit of a bind.
    Thanks again,
    Ed

  • How to reinstall iphoto and igarage apps?

I bought macbookpro 2 weeks ago.. And i uninstall iphoto and igarage.. Now how to recover that?

This is absolutely incorrect, You shouldn't be giving out the wrong information when you have no idea what's going on. If you own iPhoto you own it, updates and everything. He should be able to go view his purchases via the app store and re install that way which is what i'm sure he was doing.

  • Uninstalling iPhoto Update from iLife

Does anyone know how to uninstall the iPhoto update from iLife (and even for iMovie too)? I really don't like the new iPhoto as simple things are now more difficult or aren't available anymore. The changes seem more superficial as I haven't found any new tools or processes that help. Don't even get me started on the iMovie problems. Please tell me there is a way to go back.

iPhoto 7 did not make things harder to do, in fact it is virtually identical to the previous version!
I generally agree - But a few things are different and there is a requirement that a user LEARN how to use the new features and those that have changed - for doing that you get a greatly expanded capability so IMHO it is a great trade off - but for a user who is unable or unwilling to learn a few new things it can be difficult - as can ANY new version of ANY new software

First, welcome to the Apple boards.
Backup what you have because it probably contains things from the original update you want to keep - network settings, passwords, etc. A bootable clone is your best bet - and test it out.
Then you need to format your HD (full, not quick) with the Leopard DVD and then reboot with the Tiger CD and install it. I am not sure how much you can migrate "downwards" from the Leopard backup, but some things will probably come along OK. Not sure about mail since it was converted by Leopard - will it unconvert? Don't know.
I have read of some who tried to simply install Tiger over Leopard but the results were less than great. You can try it once you have that clone backup, because you won't be losing anything.
I would suggest unplugging the clone during the erase and install process until you get to the migration point.

I have a brand new Leopard based MacBook Pro that I need to revert to its previous cat form of Tiger. Would you mind walking me through it? I have Tiger disks that came with another MacBook Pro so those should have all of the machine specific items I will need. As I understand this, I start the computer from the included Leopard disk and do a full format. (I noticed that there is a new partition style named GUID Partition, is this Leopard only?) Next, I load in my Tiger disks and install from those? I do not need to do any system backups as I have no information on this computer as of yet. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Brian

  • How to install iPhoto after upgrading to yosemite?

how to install iPhoto after upgrading to yosemite?

Download it from the App Store as Matt suggested.  You may have to move the current version to the Trash Bin (don't delete yet), go to the App Store and look for iPhoto 9.6 under purchases.  It will be free.
What iPhoto version did you have prior to the Yosemite upgrade?  If it was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.6.

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.
