How to uninstall McAfee Anti-theft?

I have recently bought my notebook and would like to competely uninstall McAfee Anti-Theft before even registering this programme. I don't have sensitive data on my notebook and don't need this software.
I have read that it is difficult to completely uninstall this programme.
Is this true or can I just choose the uninstall procedure in the system settings tab?

Ive tested it for you.
Uninstall McAfee Internet security at first and then after notebook restart uninstall McAfee Anti-Theft.
Do it using uninstall option in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
I dont see any problem with removing it.
At the end go to McAffe Security Advisor symbol at the desktop, click with right mouse button on it and choose option uninstall.
Thats it.

    Hi All,
i uninstalled AV successfully using as below mentioned links:
Moved to VirusScan Other where hopefully an expert can help you.
Until they do I Googled 'How to uninstall VirusScan 8.6 for MAC' and got this as one of the many choices:  https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB54975
There are also uninstall instructions in the User Guide: https://kc.mcafee.com/resources/sites/MCAFEE/content/live/PRODUCT_DOCUMENTATION/ 22000/PD22134/en_US/VirusScan%20for%20Mac%208.6.1%20User%20Guide%20Addendum.pdf
By condemning files to the bin you may have scotched any automated method of removal but I will defer to the experts on that.

A little late to the game, but .sit files are Stuffit files as developed by http://www.stuffit.com/ Apple used to use this compression format, but does no longer, and no longer includes the free Stuffit Expander program made by Stuffit.com. If you need to extract an old .sit uninstaller, get it from Stuffit.com. And also any company making such a program for Mac OS X should seriously consider upgrading their downloads to be .dmg.zip files instead, which are more easy to extract on Mac OS X without downloading extra software.

  • How do I COMPLETELY uninstall Avast anti-virus (free edition) from my Mac?

How do we completely uninstall Avast anti-virus, latest edition from my Mac?  This product has really messed up my Safari browser with all the extensions and
    possible plug-ins!
    Thank you for any advice!

If you don't have an uninstaller:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • How and where to hide anti theft soft in order not...

In my n95,i have bought kaspersky antivirus which have anti theft function also. But installing soft in phone memory or memory card can be removed by thieves by hard reset or formatting before sim change if thieves are clever enough.Even folder lock or ADV also fails if hard reset is done.Isn't there any solution to hide this software or such setting that it cannot be removed by hard reset?

actually theres no need to get that far. I installed Kaspersky Mob security on both my E71 and N8 and i can easily uninstall them by the app manager!!!! No need for factory restart or firmware reinstallation. A novice can get rid of this "protection" software by just one click

  • How much is McAfee subscription once the free time is up?

I've been getting reminders from McAfee that my free subscription is about to end but nothing about how much they charge for it afterwards. I'd rather get rid off it if only they didn't make it so hard to do it. So, if they don't charge too much, I just might go with them.

    Hi NWDude,
I moved this topic to this board so we can discuss security software options for your McAfee.
I do not have information on the price of renewal. You probably should contact McAfee regarding that.
You did not mention your operating system. If it is Windows 8, Windows Defender is part of Windows 8 and can be activated after McAfee is removed. Windows Defender on Win 8 is a full FREE anti-VIRUS product as opposed to Windows Defender on Win 7/Vista/XP where it is simply a free anti-spyware program.  If you are using Windows 7, you can install another AV such as Avast! or Microsoft Security Essentials yourself.
If you are using Windows 8 here are the steps for removing McAfee:
    * Open the McAfee Control Center, and DISABLE  all of McAfee’s components that you see enabled and running.
    * Next, via the Control Panel, locate the section to uninstall programs, and use this to UNinstall McAfee.  Note:  As mentioned above, there is a McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool (MCPR) tool. Version 6.5.101 is compatible with Windows 8.
    http://mcafee-consumer-product-removal-tool.soft32.com/
(Note: Some people have had problems using the tool and have suggested to simply use the Control Panel to remove McAfee.)
After McAfee removal and reboot if Defender is successfully running you should be okay.
    * Reboot your system.   Confirm that Windows Defender is now running as your anti-virus.
If you are using Windows 7, following your McAfee removal, you would install your choice of free products if that is what you have decided to use.
There is a list of free products HERE in Lenovo's KB Articles.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and have been very happy with the way they work together to protect 2 of my computers. I use ESET NOD32, a paid product, along with Malwarebytes on another computer. I've been happy with that as well.

  • Intel AMT & Anti Theft

    Hi All,
Anyone using Intel AMT or Anti-Theft? Are they of much use...?
Am I missing much by not using them? Been doing some googling but can't quite find what I need. They seem more aimed at corporate users rather than retail consumers.
    Information appreciated.

If anyone knows how to remove this bloat ware and stop it from slowing down the startup with its service, let me know.
    Eos:
It's easy to remove the software, and easy to disable both of these the functions in the BIOS.
Your computer came with a document entitled "User Guide" pre-installed on it.  To access the User Guide, press the start button, select 'Help and Support', then select the link entitled "User Guide" that will appear in the upper left corner of the window.  There you will find instructions explaining how to disable the feature.  Likewise for the Anti-Theft. There's also about 200 more pages of information explaining how your computer works, what you can do with it, etc.  It makes for fascinating reading.  The document is a PDF, you can save it to your desktop if you wish so that it is available whenever you want it.  You can even use the 'search' feature of Adobe Reader to instantly find topics, such as 'AMT' or 'Anti-Theft'.  This actually enables you to find information on your own in less time than it takes to make a post here in the forum asking others to find the information for you.
The anti-theft does not require or have any software  unless you have taken deliberate action to purchase and download an anti-theft service.  To remove the AMT software (if installed), press the start button, select 'Control Panel', then select 'Programs and Features', find the AMT software entry, select it, right click, and choose 'uninstall'.

Both Virusbarrier and Norton were used at one time.  Both programs have been deleted but I still get asked about Virsubarrier renewal as well as Norton safe files questions....  I've gone thru applications, library folders and I've used Appzapper.  Where are the hidden files?  What am I missing?

  • Security, anti-theft

    Hi,
Last week I bought a cellphone and it was lifted out of my car in less than 12 hours. I now have a brand new Bold. I hesitated in buying it since it is a valuable commodity, but I was told that the anti-theft features were quite good. Apparently the phone can be tracked via GPS if you activate it immediately. I have also heard about monitoring software that works in the background and can send out security details if the SIM card is ever changed.
I learned of PhoneBAK BB, which is an application available at Download.com and which has a high rating according to the site managers.
Has anyone heard of this? Are there other security options available that anyone has had any experience with?
Does anyone know of a website that explains how to secure a cellphone against theft?
I would be quite interested in hearing about it.
    Cheers,
    Mikey53

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While there is no way to really secure a device "against theft", there are measures you can take to do the things you discuss -- but IMHO the device itself is a commodity. The data contained on it, however, is potentially priceless. Hence, there are two things that BB's have that I consider invaluable:
    1) Backups -- the desktop software lets you backup all of your critical data. Further, if you are synchronizing with a desktop PIM, your data is already backed up there.
KB12487 How to backup data on a BlackBerry smartphone
KB17022 How to configure synchronization settings for BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    2) Device Password -- once activated, this will be required to unlock the device. After 10 sequential failed attempts, the device will wipe itself clean of all of your personal data.
KB16307 Actions that the BlackBerry smartphone performs during a BlackBerry smartphone wipe processes
With those two measures, I consider anything else to be somewhat useless...replacing the device is simple (yes, it could cost $$$, but it is easy)...replacing the data is really hard. And protecting that data from others is IMO essential.
    Hope that helps!

I don't think this will fix your problem with restoring your iPhone 4 though. That is likely a seperate issue.
but i can do it with any windows?
Yes, you can theoretically restore your iPhone with any computer running the most current version of iTunes (10.6.3) unless there is some other issue.
    I get error code(21)
According to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error21:
"These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service."
Do you run any anti-virus or third-party firewalls on your computer? Try disabling them and trying the restore process again. It may be possible that one of these security applications is interfering with the iPhone's ability to authenticate with Apple's servers.
