How to uninstall MySQL 5?

I have absolutely no idea of how to install MySQL 5!
I've looked around all over but all I see are some few suggestions that I should just simply delete the folder user/local/mysql - which I can't find!
Can someone please help me here?

You will need to do this using the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. Open the Terminal and at the prompt enter the following lines pressing Return at the end of each.
prompt >cd /usr/local
prompt >ls -l
Verify there is a folder named "mysql". If so,
prompt >rm -rf mysql
If you get an error that you do not have sufficient privileges then enter,
prompt >sudo rm -rf mysql
You will be prompted for your admin password which will not be echoed.
prompt >ls -l
Verify the folder has been deleted. If so you're done. Quit the Terminal.
Now, from the Finder navigate to the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and check for a startupitem for mysql. If you find one delete it.

I have downloaded MAMP for Mac and want to use it for working with Wordpress. I'm on an Imac with Maverick OS 10.9. I had mysql installed before this and would like to uninstall it and use MAMP. It was easy to turn off Apache and PHP but don't know how to uninstall mysql. Please help!!

It depends on how you installed it. You have to shutdown the MySQL service first. If you used the standard, but obsolete Startup Item, you can do that with the Startup Item. If you created a launchd script, you can do it with launchctl. Once MySQL is no longer running, you can delete the Startup Item or launchd script and the rest of MySQL.

  • Uninstalling MySQL

Does anyone know how to uninstall MySQL 5? I want to install another version and don't know if all the files will be automatically replaced when the new version is installed or if I need to do something beforehand.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Delete the "/usr/local/mysql-standard-5.0.xx-osx10.4-powerpc" folder (don't delete the alias!)
Delete also all files with a name starting by "mysql" in the /Library/Receipts/ folder

  • Uninstalling MYSQL 5.1.12

This is by far the dumbest thing I have ever done on my Mac. Thinking it was just some database software, I installed MYSQL 5.1.12 on my Tiger OS, all 3 installs, the main program, the startup item + the preference pane (which shows the error "could not load mysql"). I can't seem to locate this program anywhere in Applications, or anywhere else except that the 2 install packages are in the Receipts folder, the preference pane, from which I am supposed to start the server, in System Preferences. I have written to the development site for mysql for help on how to COMPLETELY remove this program, expect to hear from them, just thought you guys might have the easy fix to get this program off my Mac. Remember I am a fairly new Mac user, so please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks,Ken.

The replies from both mysql tech support + their forums has been non-existent after 3 days. However, someone in the forum put up the following:
Uninstalling MySQL - (Mac - OS)
From a terminal do the following:
    1. sudo rm /usr/local/mysql
    2. sudo rm -rf /usr/local/mysql*
    3. sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM
    4. sudo rm -rf /Library/PreformancPanes/My*
    5. (Edit /etc/hostconfig) sudo vi /etc/hostconfig (Remove line MYSQLCOM=-YES)
    6. sudo rm -rf /Library/Reciepts/mysql*
    7. sudo rm -rf /Library/Reciepts/MySQL*
I think it was successful because I see no trace of mysql on my Tiger OS. When offering this software, mysql ought to warn people that this is a very speciality software for users with experience so people like me will not have these hassles.

  • Question about uninstalling MySQL

So, I've got MySQL 4.1 installed on a server running OS X Tiger Server edition. I upgraded this server from OS X 10.3 Server edition.
MySQL 4.1 is installed in /usr, apparently. I recently upgraded to MySQL 5.0.45 to support a particular application we use and I'm wanting to find out how to uninstall the MySQL installation that is in /usr. MySQL 5.0.45 installed itself in /usr/local/mysql-5.0.45 leaving the installation in /usr alone.
When I boot the machine, MySQL 5.0.45 starts which is exactly what we want.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Peace...

My question is, will I lose any of my music by doing this, or my album artwork, etc?
No. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes doesn't affect the iTunes library.

  • How to Uninstall Leopard Upgrade and go back to Tiger

I would like to go back to Tiger and was wondering how to uninstall the Leopard upgrade without having to do a full reformat. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

First, welcome to the Apple boards.
Backup what you have because it probably contains things from the original update you want to keep - network settings, passwords, etc. A bootable clone is your best bet - and test it out.
Then you need to format your HD (full, not quick) with the Leopard DVD and then reboot with the Tiger CD and install it. I am not sure how much you can migrate "downwards" from the Leopard backup, but some things will probably come along OK. Not sure about mail since it was converted by Leopard - will it unconvert? Don't know.
I have read of some who tried to simply install Tiger over Leopard but the results were less than great. You can try it once you have that clone backup, because you won't be losing anything.
I would suggest unplugging the clone during the erase and install process until you get to the migration point.

I have a brand new Leopard based MacBook Pro that I need to revert to its previous cat form of Tiger. Would you mind walking me through it? I have Tiger disks that came with another MacBook Pro so those should have all of the machine specific items I will need. As I understand this, I start the computer from the included Leopard disk and do a full format. (I noticed that there is a new partition style named GUID Partition, is this Leopard only?) Next, I load in my Tiger disks and install from those? I do not need to do any system backups as I have no information on this computer as of yet. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Brian

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

  • How to uninstall pages 5 on iPad 2?

I still use pages 4 on my Mac, and have updated my iPad2 to iOS7 and spontenuously to pages 5 as well. Then, I can't read on my Mac a document in iCloud that was altered on my iPad with pages 5. Of course, to update my Mac to pages 5 would solve this, but I'd still like to use the features on pages4. Does anybody know how to uninstall pages 5 on iPad and revert back to pages4?

    Hi there,
is your app stuck in "loading status"? Or are you trying to cancel an ongoing loading process?
    if stuck:
Perform a reset of your ipad.
Hold down home-button and on/off-button together for about 10 seconds (Ipad will first show you it´s shut-off-screen, then will turn, then will show apple logo again <- that´s where you release).
After doing so my "faulty" app restored properly, I hav no more issues.
If in loading stage and you would like to cancel:
You will need to wait for loading and installation to complete.
Then press and hold down finger on any app. Apps start shaking and (if not proper to ipads iOS) will show a small circled "x" above left, press that "x", you will be asked if you really wish to delete, press ok. Done.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards
    Max

  • Ubuntu 10 (Linux) & Firefox 3.6 ~ How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in & ActiveX control

Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux) and Firefox 3.6.3  ~  How to uninstall the Adobe  Flash Player plug-in & ActiveX control
In general Adobe needs to offer Ubuntu (Linux) support.  I don't use Windows anymore and will go with whatever company provides me the Plug In's I need to function.  In this case at the current time, I can't use Adobe flash Player to view You Tube video's.  I followed the link that helps a user fix the problem:
Solve a Problem: The video won't play:
    http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=56115
I then saw that you suggested that I first needed to uninstall any older versions of the Flash Player and then install the latest version of the Flash player.  I clicked on the link find out how to uninstall it here:
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
They didn't offer any help with Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux).  Please offer the instructions and automatic (non-terminal) uninstaller.  Also, I want an automatic installer for Ubuntu 10 (Linux) & Firefox 3.6 that is easy like like you have for Windows and like Sun's Java has for Linux.

You should go to this site to see what versions of Flash Player and Shockwave Player you have installed.
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
The versions you are listing (10.0 r12, 10.0 r2) appear to be Shockwave Plauer versions, not Flash Player.
If you want to uninstall Flash Player, there should be an uninstaller in the install directory.  I do not know where that is on Linux.

  • How to uninstall Skype Extender in Macbook Pro?

    Hi,
i got Skype Extender application from www.Apple.com and  installed successfully, but right now i dont want skype extender application so i'm try to uninstall skype extender its showing "application is open so u can't uninstall" so how to close application (No way to quit) and also how to uninstall please every one suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

Then I submit you didn't look in /Library/LaunchAgents on your boot volume as opposed to ~/Library/LaunchAgents in you user (home) directory.
I just ran the installer to verify my assumtions about that installer.  Here's all the stuff that that installer installs:
    /Applications/SkypeExtenderMenu.app
    /Applications/SkypeExtender.app
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.zysk.SkypeExtenderMenu.Launch.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.zysk.SkypeExtender.Launch.plist
    /Library/Frameworks/Skype.framework
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.zysk.skypeextender/com.zysk.*
[* represents 12 files all beginning with com.zysk. which I didn't bother to list here]
So those guys must be there. I manually removed all this stuff, logged out, back in, and there are no SkypeExtender apps running just as I knew there wouldn't be.
Note, I didn't mention it previously but you should also toss the framework (and maybe receipts too if you want a full removal of all the SkypeExtender stuff) although it's not hurting anything being there other than taking up a little disk space.

  • How to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 completely?

How to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 and Adobe Download Manager completely?
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 and I don't want to uninstall that.

    Hi
Most Mac applications come in self-contained packages (ctrl-click, or right-click, & you will see Show Package Contents), they can just be dragged to the trash.
Some applications have their own uninstaller which must be run.
With Adobe Reader 8, I believe the icon in Applications is a folder so just drag it to the trash & empty the trash. I believe Download Manager (Applications/Utilities) should be the same. Someone may know different.
There is also AppZapper or AppDelete. These work by you dragging & dropping the application you wish to delete onto its icon, AppZapper/AppDelete then pulls all parts of that application together then moves it to the trash.
