How to uninstall norton antivirus

how to uninstall norton iantivirus from mountain lion?

Uninstalling Norton or any Symantec product is not trivial and requires that you run Norton's uninstaller to ensure all its bits are thoroughly eradicated. Read about it here:

  • How do I uninstall Norton AntiVirus so I don't get msg after startup?

Last year I received an iPod Nano, and then found out I needed to upgrade my OS because my version of iTunes wasn't compatible with the Nano. Ever since I've been getting a msg saying to reinstall Norton AntiVirus after I startup. I have a 2003 iBook G3 (and I don't know where I put the disk to reinstall). I've tried to drag to the trash the applications, including the startup items from the library, but nothing has worked. And apparently you can't trash some Norton AntiVirus items because "they are in use". How can they be in use if they need to be reinstalled? How do I get this app off my computer so it doesn't pause on the reinstall msg each time??

Not needed from the App Store. Go straight to the developer.

Also FindAnyFile, which if you Option click Find will search as root.

For EasyFind, enter the name of the developer or anything else associated with it.

A little late to the game, but .sit files are Stuffit files as developed by http://www.stuffit.com/ Apple used to use this compression format, but does no longer, and no longer includes the free Stuffit Expander program made by Stuffit.com. If you need to extract an old .sit uninstaller, get it from Stuffit.com. And also any company making such a program for Mac OS X should seriously consider upgrading their downloads to be .dmg.zip files instead, which are more easy to extract on Mac OS X without downloading extra software.

  • How to disable Norton antivirus in 2008 MacBook?

I'm missing the scrollbar when I open individual emails in my Yahoo account. That is the only place in my entire computer that the scrollbar is missing. I need to disable the Norton Antivirus as part of a diagnostic checklist. I don't see anything in the finder window that is applicable to perfoming that operation. Wht am I overlooking? Where is the icon or appropriate folder?

  • How to uninstall norton

Recently I updated my Firefox. At that time, Norton online backup downloaded with Firefox, tho I never saw a request for my permission. I would never have granted it because I know Norton to be a big system hog.
My browser has been unbelievably slow since, and I am unable to uninstall Norton. I get msg: uninstall server not working properly.
    Any help available?

Where did you download that "new copy of Firefox" from? <br />
Mozilla has nothing to do with any Norton / Symantec product. In fact Firefox as a backup service (of sorts) built right in to Firefox, called Sync. <br />

  • Norton Antivirus 6/1/2006 update blocks OracleXE (fix)

It appears the NAV 6/1/2006 virus definition update doesn't like OracleXE (Windows XP Pro).
For those of you like me are not familiar with how to configure Norton Antivirus, here's the simple fix:
    Open NAV
    Under Options, select 'Norton Anti-Virus'
On the left-side menu, select 'Internet Worm Protection'
    Select the 'Program Control' option
    Select 'Add'
Locate the OracleXE program in the file open menu...
    etc.
    ++ mcs

Well I tried everything I've found so far with no positive results.
I tried the following several times to no avail:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
I have also tried repairing the .NET framework, I believe I have 3.5 and 4.0.
I also used ccleaner to clean up anything that might have needed fixing.
I made sure to "Run as Admin" in all instances.
I'm pretty much lost and not sure where to go.  A big part of functionality of my iPhone is now worthless without being able to synch to iTunes.

  • How do I completely uninstall intego net barrier? I can't install Norton Antivirus 2012 until this is off my computer

How do I completely uninstall intego net barrier? I can't install Norton Antivirus 2012 until this is off my computer. And I can not get it off my Computer. ANyone?

Intego has their own uninstaller which is the best thing to use. Otherwise, see the following. From a practical point of view you really don't need any such software on the Mac.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

leroydouglas is correct, DO NOT install Norton or any other commercial anti virus software.  They all work very poorly with Macs.  If you insist on AV software, consider Sophos, it is free.
If you do wish to update your OSX, here are the available options:

The Norton uninstaller is a PPC native app and Lion won't run it.
    Thanks.

You should run the removal applicaiton that came with your installation. Read this from the Norton web site..https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?product=No rton+for+Mac+Products&version=current&lg=english&ct=united+states&pvid=f-mac&doc id=v64924250_EndUserProfile_en_us/
Norton AV 12 for Lion is available online.
If you want an AV program compatible with Lion then look at Intego Virus Barrier 6.

  • How do I remove Norton Antivirus?

I have a full version of Norton Antivirus. I had my suspicions last year when my MacBook acted funny and it caught a virus from 2 files that came from my PC. Well, I had OS X Tiger then and installed Norton Antivirus. Now I have Leopard and no longer want Norton Antivirus. My question is how do I remove Norton fully from my MacBook? I don't want any applications or any apps running in the background from Norton. Please help! Thanks

  • How do i uninstall norton anti virus?

How do i uninstall norton antivirus

    Hello Pete,
I also need to uninstall Norton. This statement is on the Norton support link that you provided above with a red alert symbol: "RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all the folders created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You shall lose all files that reside in those folders, including any you have created."  https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080427024142EN_En dUserProfile_en_us
Would you clarify what type of files that might be?
In my great ignorance, I installed Norton a couple of years ago and ran occasional whole system scans; Norton Firewall and Phishing Protection were also enabled. Could some of my personal files have ended up in a Norton folder? (I did not have the Norton Identity Safe program or Norton Zone....not even sure what the Zone is).  I don't really want to search for and open Norton folders to check on files in case that would cause more problems. I went to the Norton Support site and Norton Forum, and didn't see an answer to my question. I didn't want to register for their forum unless absolutely necessary, but I am willing to do whatever research is needed. I did find this link from another Apple Support Community discussion but it doesn't say what type of personal files could be lost: http://www.macworld.com/article/1150466/uninstall_norton.html
A related question: At this time, I only have TM backup. It was when I was was learning how to create a bootable clone with CCC that I learned that I shouldn't have installed Norton. (I'm "behind the times" and trying to catch up.) Should I totally uninstall Norton AV before downloading and running Carbon Copy Cloner?  Or since I have now "disabled" Norton's activity, is it ok to download and run CCC and then deal with the Norton. I read in another post that this Norton uninstall is not "trivial":

Thank you so very much for any insight you can provide!

Not sure why you are asking this question in a webOS/Palm forum.  Neither of the programs mentioned run on the devices that are the focus of this forum.
