How to uninstall/reinstall iMovie

I just "upgraded" to iMovie 7.1.1 today and it the program all but totally collapsed. It will still open, slowly, but even though a project is active the Project library shows empty, the event and project windows are sometimes filled correctly and sometimes not, and regardless of that the whole thing has slowed to a jerky crawl.
In short iMovie is, well, I'd say it's toast, but I have Toast and at least it works.
I am in the middle of a project in iMovie '08 which I need to finish. I'd love nothing more than to roll back the clock and slap myself in the face just before I clicked on the OK button to update the software, but that isn't going to happen, so what can I do to un-do what I've done? I tried reinstalling the "bundled software" that came with my OEM OS X Tiger discs and that didn't work (I'm actually running 10.5.1). So my question is: How do I uninstall and then reinstall just iMovie?

Thanks for the reply, yes, I did try to repair the permissions, in fact I have run permission repair three times now and when I get home I'll see if it needs to be run again since it seems to come up with additional issues each time I run it, suggesting to me that there are layered permission problems. Whether that has anything to do with the current iMovie issue or not has yet to be proven.
In regard to your reply to Irb07 about Quicktime, I have not received the same error messages about QT, however the update that I installed contained updates to several packages, iMovie and Quicktime were two of them.
So far none of my permission repairing has made a difference in iMovie, it still doesn't work although it will partially load. I'll keep repairing and see what happens, but in case that doesn't work...
Is there a way to actually uninstall and then reinstall iMovie? iLife came packaged on the OEM Tiger disc set with my machine, but it does not appear to allow me to selectively install specific programs, nor does it allow me to remove any.
Can this be done?

Bridge is not in my Add/Remove programs. It is not listed as an item that I can uninstall or reinstall in the Master Collection setup program. I want to reinstall Bridge. It is pretty much unusable on my XP64 system since the last upgrade. But how can I reinstall it?

Well, Adobe may not want to call it a separate program, but from most litmus tests that I can think of, Bridge sure looks and acts like separate program.
My Bridge would start up no problem. And I had been changing the settings to find anything that might work. But what I had not done, until last night, was to go into the Camera RAW Preferences and change anything. I did this last night. I changed the location of the cache here and changed its size from 1GB to 8GB. This has appeared to have helped quite a bit. Bridge is still a tad sluggish (on a very fast machine with 8 logical processors and 8GB or ram), but it is usable again.
So one follow-up question is what is the difference between the "camera RAW Preferences" cache and the "Preferences" Cache?
My next follow-up question is why does Bridge say that it is finished loading thumbnails (via progress bar) for a particular folder only to restart later or on subsequent returns to the folder even after no changes have been made? This drives me crazy. Just when you think that its finished and you can have your CPU's back, it starts up again and hogs your processing power.

How do you reinstall iMovie when it came pre-installed with the Mac?

I was wondering how you reinstall imovie 11 (i think) when the software came pre-installed on the Mac. I purchased my Mac in August 2011 it is the iMac (Mid 2011 model) I am running Lion. No discs came with the Mac for the option to reinstall.
The reason i wish to reinstall it is because it keeps crashing on startup. I load the application and it opens but then after a few moments of loading up the rainbow wheel appears and never goes away, the app then is none responsive and I have to force quite the app.

I live in the UK and i have called apple support but it is all automated and as i don't have apple care they said that i would need to open an incident which would cost £35. iMovie on the Mac App store is only £10.50!

I installed CC for my wife and need to move the root install to another drive on our computer (originally installed to C, need to move to E). She has a license for CC through work. What is the recommended manner of uninstalling and reinstalling CC to another drive while also maintaining all settings and not voiding any licensing key? (back story, the C drive is a 256 GB solid state drive, and we're running out of space on it).

Adobe After Effects CS6 - how to uninstall/reinstall or transfer license to a new computer

My old computer has crashed, and so I built a new one recently. I have been installing all the applications for it, downloading files, so on and so forth. I recently insterted one of the hardrives from my old computer, and was able to see the files I had from my old computer. All of my adobe applications are on there, and I can see them, however; I cannot use them, which is okay, since most of them were free applications that I could download from the website. But Adobe After Effects CS6, which is the application I really need, does not open it; instead, it reads: "Configuration Error: Please uninstall and reinstall the product. Error: 16". I bought the CD for After Effects last summer, but I cannot find it anywhere. I heard you don't need the CD to transfer the license to a new computer, but I can't figure out how to do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since after building my computer, I have absolutely no funds nor interest to buy another After Effects CD.

I recently upgraded Firefox to the 'optimized for Yahoo' version and have been experiencing slow starts and stalls. This happened once before when I upgraded Internet Explorer to an 'optimized for Yahoo' version. I was able to uninstall it and reinstalled the latest version from Microsoft, but I lost all my bookmarks / favorites in the process.

I reinstalled Firefox and the problem was solved. I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the support that I have got here. The helpers listed all the ways that I try to fix the problem but none of them worked. Also backing up data did not do anything. I lost all my history and saved password even though I followed the exact same steps as you gave me.
Seems like a lot of people are facing the youtube video problem, hope you guys can figure out how to fix it so that everyone is satisfied with using your service.

However, will uninstalling the product use up one of the licenses as I would like to install on two computers and I don't want to use up both licenses on the same computer. I have read on this forum about the need to de-activate the program before uninstalling but some clarification on what "de-activating" actually does would be welcome. Could someone please confirm the steps I need to take to solve this problem. As I understand it I need to 1) de-activate the first incorrect install (from disc 1), 2) uninstall the product and 3) re-install using disc 2 and then disc 4. It seems discs 1, 3 & 5 are not needed for my install of Photoshop Elements 10 and Premier Elements 10 on a Windows 7 64 bit computer.
Following these steps will use up one of my licenses (hopefully not both) and I can then install the programme on my desktop for my second license.

I have purchased a copy of Photoshop Elements 10 and Premier Elements 10 (bundled together 5 discs). I've installed on my Windows 7 laptop beginning with disc 1 and then it hung up and I couldn't eject. I was not prompted for any further discs. I then read that I should've began the install with Disc 2 as I am installing on a Windows 7 computer. I was wondering if I should uninstall what I have done so far and start over with a fresh install omitting disc 1 and beginning with Disc 2. Is this what I should be doing? I have not connected to the internet and "activated" the product yet. If I uninstall will I need to somehow remove the serial number and deactivate to preserve them for the re-install on the same computer. I don't want to lose one of my licenses as I wish to install these programmes on my desktop as well. Have read through many similar queries on these forums and have become pretty confused. Hope someone can help.

How can I reinstall iMovie HD6?

I just got a new MacBook pro which came with iLife '09 and the new iMovie. I am a die hard fan of iMovie HD 6 and would prefer to use it. I have my original iLife '06 install disk but I can't find a way to install just iMovie without iDVD and some other support items which I would rather not do.
I tried to copy my version from my old Mac but got all kinds of error messages when it started up and I suspect that was because it was on an older Power PC machine.
I would appreciate any ideas to get iMovie HD back on my new MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the quick response. I extracted the iMovie.mpkg file from the disk using Pacifist as you suggested but when I try to run it I get an error message that says I am trying to install an unsupported application and it closes.
I don't have any experience with Pacifist so i suspect I did something wrong.

Try downloading Quicktime from the Apple web site and installing that.

After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error when attempting to install apps. You may want to consider resetting your device. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:

Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.
