How to uninstall root user, install regular os x?

I somehow installed the root user version, and I'm now deciding it really isn't something you want to have... so now I need to uninstall and install the regular 10.6.8, but I want to try to keep my music and movie files. How should I go about this without wiping everything out?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

Do a backup before doing anything. To delete them you will need to enable the Root User and log in as the Root User. You need to be very careful while logged in as the Root User because you can delete any file and could potentially ruin your system. As soon as the non-functioning applications are deleted, log out and use your normal account. Did I mention doing a backup?

I attempted to install the PhotoshopCC onto a Windows OS7 computer - which went drastically wrong. I performed an uninstall - yet that left a background app that now runs even though I have no Adobe applications running.
How do you uninstall the background application and all other components installed with the PhotoshopCC installation?
I have been on hold for chat support multiple times for multiple hours - never getting a chat representative.
I have called the support number multiple times and put on hold for hours - never getting a support rep.
I do not want to pay $39 for a call-back to simply to find out how to uninstall this background application.
I have searched the Adobe Support Forum for answers, and found that other people have similar issue, yet unable to find answers.
I have been using numerous Adobe products for over 15 years through my work. Never experienced this amount of problems in product and support prior to this situation.

Hi, is there any way to keep root user enabled and also to not have the other account.
It is because if the other account in shown then the other user will get to know that root user is enable. I want to keep the root user enables as well as

Go to Shared Components/Templates.
Find the page template that you are using and click Copy.
Go into the copy and look for &USER. and #NAVIGATION_BAR# and delete.
Go to each page that does not need the user and navigation and assign the new template.
This will get rid off the user details and the navigation bar.

I'm using a NSS6100.
It was before attached to an AD2000.
I recently attached the NSS6100 to our AD2008.
Now, I can see the users/groups from the AD, but all the files/dir presents on NSS6100 lost their user/groups rights.
Even I changed the rights on Shares menu from http interface, I can't move/rename/delete the files.
Is there a way to become root user ?
My NSS6100 user I created is nasusers groups and normally have admin rights, but I can't change any rights via FTP connection.

I found a kind of way to delete the files I want to delete, using a NFS mount and access to NSS6100 from our Linux or SCO box.
I can't change the rights on file, but I can download the files, delete from NSS6100, and upload again to NSS6100, so the rights change to my user.
It's not a simple way!

is there a tool or a command which allow me to uninstall all current installed java versions?
The problem is, that I hava a lot of different configurations in our network.
And now I want to install on all the pcs the same JRE. But it is not the 1.6.17 - so I can´t
use the autoupdate function of JRE.
I want to install JRE 1.6.07.
My OS is Windows XP SP3.
So I need a tool or an command which uninstall or delete the current installed JRE versions.

You can probably cobble together a perl script
using [Win32::Registry::File|http://search.cpan.org/~avatar/Win32-Registry-File-1.10/File.pm]

How to "uninstall" Rosetta manually installed into Lion (or Mt. Lion)

Some users of Final Cut Studio 2 (and some users of Logic Pro 8) discovered that they could not use the installer app for these programs in Lion.
Some on this forum (and others) have suggested that Rosetta be installed from a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD into Lion or Mt. Lion. Although that technique does work for FCS2 (and perhaps Logic Pro 8), the better and SAFER approach is to use Pacifist.
In any event, I am beginning to see anecdotal reports that some of these "Rosetta-installed" Lion Mac are experiencing problems "down the road." I am also receiving requests from those who did install Rosetta on instructions on how to remove it.
In an attempt to get Rosetta out of these machines BEFORE it can corrupt any other files, we would appreciate a detailed instruction on how to remove Rosetta from Lion (and to the extent that the instructions would be different, on Mt. Lion).
I post this on behalf of those who installed Rosetta; I am not one of them...

That's weird. EasyFind is what I use for any search (I never bother to even look at Spotlight). translate came up, along with 400 other files with "translate" in the name. The vast majority of which had the identical name of WordTranslatedFontSample.

Nah, no need to go that route. One way is from within EasyFind itself. You could just highlight the file and click the Delete button at the top. Still don't understand why it doesn't show for you (unless the drive you have chosen for it to search, minilax, is not the correct drive). But otherwise, to view all files and folders on your Mac, open the Terminal and enter the following two lines.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
The second command forces the Finder to relaunch so it reads the change you made to the Finder .plist file.
All hidden files and folders will now show as grayed out objects, but they are all accessible. You'll be able to navigate directly to the /usr/libexec/oah/ folder.
When you're done, type in the same two lines, except change TRUE to FALSE to return file viewing to normal.
Clearly RosettaNonGrata stays put, but...
As far as I can tell, that file has no use other than to turn Rosetta on and off using the Terminal. Like this:
Disable Rosetta:
sudo /usr/sbin/sysctl -w kern.exec.archhandler.powerpc=/usr/libexec/oah/RosettaNonGrata
(These two sudo commands are all one line, they're just wrapping in the forum display)
That's a quick cheat to get Rosetta to reinstall. After running the command, Snow Leopard believes Rosetta is not installed (even though it is). When you attempt to run a PPC app, OS X then asks to download and install Rosetta.
You can also manually reenable it:
Re-enable after Rosetta has already been installed:
sudo /usr/sbin/sysctl -w kern.exec.archhandler.powerpc=/usr/libexec/oah/translate
Other than getting the Rosetta translate file to reinstall without searching for your Snow Leopard disk, the commands don't have much use.
I have a different opinion about the Shims folder: it appears clear to me that it was created by the installation of Rosetta.
You could very well be right. Being in the same folder with the other two items, you would assume they're related. If I drill down through the various items in the Shims folder and opened them in TextEdit (including the .dylib files), nothing references Rosetta. At least not by name. It's rather hard to tell what any of them are for.

We are installing crystal reports on some clustered servers using the CRRedist2005_x86.msi so that a web application which uses Crystal Reports will run properly. (Visual Studio is not installed on these servers.)
If there is any problem caused by running the CRRedist2005_x86.msi program, how could we back out the installation/uninstall this version of Crystal Reports? Our server administration group wants me to provide an "uninstall program" just in case running the .msi file causes problems for any of the other applications on the server. However, I have not been able to find any information on this on the Business Objects web site (apart from some manual uninstall directions).
Can anyone help?

XMI is XML with a specified format.
Looking at the XMI format definition for the XML, it doesn't appear if it will automatically be consumed by Crystal.
Crystal expects relational, rather than hierarchial, data - so you'd need to find a way of exposing the data within XMI as a relational dataset.
