How to uninstall software updates

I update my iphone with the 5.1 software and would like to delete it now? How do i do that?

OS updates and life... there is no going back.
Why would you like to delete it now? Whatever problem you have found has a solution that does not demand going back in time.

  • HT5744 Anyone knows how to uninstall this update?

    Hi
I want to uninstall this update from my system, (knowing security risk, doesn't care security if hardware doesn't work)
I know that this update was compiled with a unestable and buggy Oracle Java version not RC, was beta and Apple put it like RC.
Please how to uninstall this update?

The Software update version is bonked, the latest bug fix is here for 10.6 users.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Pasting: java -version into Terminal and pressing Enter should reveal this after the update which fixes the bug.
    java version "1.6.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-10M4509)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)

Several users are reporting a server problem with Software Update. Why not wait and try again later today or tomorrow to see if the problem is resolved.
If the problem is on your computer then give this a try:
    Fix for Software Update
See Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X.
    Delete the following files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.xxx.plist where "xxx" is a number.
    /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/ (delete entire folder)

  • How do i software update?

How do i software update im stuck on OS X 10.5.8 and i cant update and when i click on software update it says im up to date in software,
what do i do to get it moving?

Snow Leopard should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

  • Uninstalling Software Updates?

I'm done downloading software updates. They slow my computer down a lot. Is there any way to get rid of them once you've downloaded them? I sure can't figure out how.
I think it's a conspiracy by computer manufacturers to force people out of their computers and into new models by loading them down with updates that keep their computer working like it's supposed to.

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

If you have installed an OS, Security or Apple Software update, the only way to uninstall a particular update is to re-install Tiger from the Tiger install disc (archive & install selecting preserve user and network settings) and then install only the update or updates you prefer or none but I don't recommend doing so.
I do the following beforehand and I rarely, if ever, experience any problems after installing Apple updates.
Before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4, I update my regular backup first - a complete bootable clone of my hard drive saved to an external firewire drive. It isn't a matter of if but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever. If you aren't currently maintaining a regular backup of your important data, now is a good time to start.
After updating my backup, I boot from the Tiger install disc and run Disk First Aid repair to check the hard drive for any directory problems. This little step (that doesn't take much time) can prevent many problems. If there is a minor hard drive directory problem that goes unnoticed but is not repaired before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4, the process of installing the Update can bring an underlying problem to the surface or make it much worse.
If there are any problems reported and successfully repaired, I run DFA repair again until no problems are reported.
After re-start and booting from the normal hard drive boot volume, I disconnect all external peripheral devices except for a keyboard and mouse and I then install any updates without launching or running any applications which is also very important. You should quit all applications before installing any update.
I only run DFA repair before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4 but it certainly can't hurt to do so before installing any Security or Apple application updates also but not as important.
As a first step, I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.
In addition, check Installing software updates for recommended procedures and Tuning Mac OS X Performance.

  • How to uninstall apple updates

how do I uninstall apple software updates?

Recover the backup you made before installing the update. If you didn't backup, let that be a lesson never to install anything without a backup*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Apple's Safari updates frequently update Webkit, which is a system wide resource tapped by several applications.  If an application misbehaves after the update it probably is because it accesses webkit.  If Safari misbehaves after an update, that usually is an indication the website in question that you are browsing doesn't follow standards, and an alternative browser is needed*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/browser.html
You can do this if you don't have a backup:
    1. Still make a couple clone backups.
    2. Erase and install 10.6 that installed 10.6 before on your machine.
    3. Run the 10.6.8 combo updater.
    4. Install an older version of Safari.
Note if you aren't running 10.6.8, please state so, and we can help you find an older version of Safari that works with your system.

  • How to track Software Update server activity

Does anyone know how to access usage information on the Software Update Server. I don't see a way to see who and when updated what software on the server. Thanks.

    Thanks.
    - In Console.app, I can see "swupd_access.log", but it does not give an user fiendly view of who updated what software at what time.
    - I can only view "SoftwareUpdateServer.log" in ServerAdmin, which does not give out detailed user information, just repeated lines of "Main Sync"
I wish Apple can build a nice report in their Software Update Server.

  • Uninstalling Software Update?

I've recently blindly installed the "Airport Extreme Update 2007-001". Since the my MacBook has been dropping the wireless connection (to a Belkin Router) intermittently.
Is there a way to uninstall specific software updates?

Only by doing an Archive and Install. Updates are not "uninstallable." In the future keep a cloned backup of your startup volume. If you have problems after an update it will be a lot easier restoring the backup then reinstalling from scratch.

  • How to remove Software Update notice on iPhone 5 after deleting iOS 8.01

I successfully deleted the downloaded but non-installed 8.01 update from my iPhone 5. However, my phone still shows that I have a pending software update to do. When I select the "Software Update" option I'm alerted that "Your software is up to date" and iOS 8.0 shows as the current software installed. I've rebooted the phone but the digit "1" still shows up in the Settings>General section. Any idea how to remove this now false update notification?

I have the exact same  issue , so you are not alone .
I am sure things are a little "tense" at headquarters .

  • How to push software update thru ARD

How can I push software update to the client macs thru the ARD? Please help.

    Hi
You don't really need ARD to push Apple specific Software Updates to mac clients. You could utilize the Software Update Service instead:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/SystemImaging_and_SW_Update_Adminv10.5.pdf
More of the same from here:
    http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/resources/
If by Software Updates you mean 3rd-Party applications such as Adobe's suite of products then unless they are .pkgs or .mpkgs you won't be able to. However even for these you could utilize PackageMaker:
    http://oreilly.com/pub/a/mac/2003/09/16/packagemaker.html?page=last&x-maxdepth=0
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=91068

and build a .pkg for non-pkg applications and push those out using ARD. Another way of doing this is via the command line man softwareupdate - which can be also be done using ARD.

  • How does the software updates actually get installed?

    Hello,
Yesterday I followed the steps to perform "To manually deploy the software updates in a software update group" or
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712304.aspx.  or pages 12-15.  In a nutshell, I created a Critical Update item with a collection of 3 servers.  When I look
at the Software Update Group area that lists the members that I created, I do see under the tabs that Deployed=Yes and Download=Yes for the items that I created.    However, this was not installed on any of the servers.   How does
this actually get installed on the collection servers?  Did I miss a step?   Do the client settings play a role here?  Please advise.
    Thanks for all the help!
    Reez

Kind of. Yes a software update scan cycle must run (a deployment eval doesn't), but it doesn't wait until the 7 day interval. Simply creating a new deployment in the console will trigger a software update scan cycle on targeted clients:
    http://blog.configmgrftw.com/notes-software-update-scan-cycle/
For your deployment, did you create a "Required" deployment?
Have you reviewed software center on the targeted clients?
Have you check wuahandler.log on the clients.

  • How to set software updates back to Apples server?

    Hi,
I just started using OSX Server. I will be using it to perform hundreds of netboot installs of Leopard which I have working. I also want to use it to serve software updates which I also have working on one machine using the
    defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL URL
as these are unmanaged computers. Not all the machines will stay local after the work is done.
How do I reset Software Update to use Apple's software update servers?
    Thanks,
    Shawn

OK, I found how to reset the server by deleting the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file in the user/library/preferences folder.
However I ran into another problem. I was testing software updates on a 10.4.x machine and it works fine. However I ran into problems on 10.5.x
The defaults command listed above changes the user version of com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist which is fine for 10.4.x but apparently not 10.5.x
To get this working in 10.5.x I coped the plist file from the User/library/preferences folder and dropped in in the /Library/Preferences folder. Now I see software update connecting to the local server to check for software updates.

  • How to uninstall an update? Adobe premiere 5.0.1

    Hi,
I have problem with the premiere last update, i dont know what is going on, it takes long time every action i do, after drag and drop a clip to the time line etc. and i havent that problem be4 i update to the "gtx 280" update patch.
Help me please, how i can uninstall that update if i dont want it..
    Thanks in advance

Apple does not support intermediate iOS updates...you can only update to the latest iOS version that will run on your iOS device.  Therefore, you have to update to iOS 8.1, not 7.1.2.  The files appropriate to your device are only available in 8.1.
