  • How to authorize a Reader Digital Book to a Reader (eBook) Store account.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To transfer books from a computer to the Reader Digital Book, you must authorize the Reader Digital Book to your account. Authorization links your Reader to your eBook Store account, allowing books purchased from the eBook Store to be transferred to the authorized Reader. You can authorize up to six devices to a single account.
From your home computer and home network, do the following:
Launch the Reader (eBook) Library software.
Log into your eBook Store account.
Turn on the Reader Digital Book.
NOTE: For best results, we recommend that the Reader Digital Book be fully charged before starting the authorization process and authorized from your home computer and network. Work related computers and networks often have security measures preventing the authorization process.
Connect the Reader Digital Book to the computer.
In the eBook Store pane, click My account.
On the Account Management page, under My Authorized Devices, click Manage Devices.
On the Manage Device page, under We have detected the following attached Devices:, click the Authorize this device button.

  • Could a change in the Windows operating system impact DAQ response?

I use a PCI-6013 analog DAQ card (vintage 2002) to control and acquire data with a fairly old computer running Windows 2000. I installed the card in a newer computer running Windows XP. There were no other changes to software or hardware.
The data now frequently shows a strange response in the first 0.3 seconds after starting to collect data. It reads very low (sometimes bottoming out) and comes up to the calibrated value within that first 0.3 seconds.
Could the change in operating system be the cause of this? Is there something else I can do to diagnose what is happening?
    -Kelan

This sounds a bit questionable.  you are jumping from NT to XP withough changing software?
Well vintage 2002 would put you in LabVIEW 5.1 and most likely traditional DAQ.
LabVIEW 5.1 has no official support for Windows XP nor has 6.02 although it Should "Run without errors" according to prophisy-  that does not mean that there won't be issues just no errors.
What drivers and software are you trying to port from NT to XP?

  • How can I get the windows operating system login?

My application needs no authentication, but I would like to be able to identify the user by their windows login. For tracking etc. Is this available in XE Application Express?
    thanks

    Trevor,
you can easily download it here: http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
It comes with an installer, it is really easy.
Oracle has a version of Apache included in their distributions, but you would require a license for that. Since Oracle XE has an embedded pl/sql gateway, you should just do fine using the original Apache.
No, you don't need the REMOTE_ADDR workaround, just be aware of the limitation.
Here are even simpler instructions for running Apache as a proxy to XE: Re: Existing http server
    Good luck :),

  • How to charge the Reader Digital Book.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Follow these guidelines when charging your Reader Digital Book:
If you charge via a USB connection and leave your Reader Digital Book connected to the computer to charge and the computer goes into sleep/hibernation, charging will stop and the red charge indicator on the Reader will turn off. If left connected, your battery may begin to discharge. To avoid this, turn off any sleep/hibernation settings while charging or set your sleep or hibernation settings to come on after your Reader Digital Book has been charged and then disconnect it from the computer once charging has completed.
If possible charge the Reader device using an AC Adapter (optional for some models). When using the AC adapter to charge your Reader device, depending on your model, you with either see a lightning bolt symbol that appears next to the battery icon [FIG. 1] or a battery icon with an arrow [FIG. 2] that appears in the lower-right corner of the display of your Reader device. This is an indication that it is connected to AC power and is charging the battery properly. If the symbol is not present, double check the AC Adapter to ensure that your Reader device is properly connected. This symbol does not appear while charging via a USB connection.
It will take approximately 4 hours to achieve a full charge with a computer. It will take approximately 2 hours to achieve a full charge with the optional AC Adapter.
If your Reader Digital Book is left connected to a powered USB hub while the computer is shut down, your battery may begin to discharge. Disconnect your Reader from the hub when the computer is not powered on.
Always verify that your Reader is fully charged by disconnecting it from the computer and checking the battery indicator. The battery indicator will display 4 black bars when it is fully charged
After charging your Reader device, if the Reader Library software is still open, you should use the eject button in the Reader Library software to safely eject your Reader device. If you already closed the Reader Library software, you should use the Safely Remove Hardware feature of the Windows® operating system.
NOTE: When storing the Reader for a long period of time, use the Device Shutdown feature in the Advanced settings menu. After using Device Shutdown, it may take approximately 30 seconds for the Reader to start the next time the Reader is turned on.

If you are not transferring any data and would like to disconnect your Reader device, click the eject button in the Reader (eBook) Library software. The message on your Reader device will now be USB connected and you can safely remove the connection or continue to charge.
NOTE: If you have already closed the Reader Library software, you can use the Safely Remove Hardware feature of the Windows® operating system to disconnect your Reader device from the computer.

  • How do I clone a fully operational system that relies on Windows 7 for the underlying operating system?

I'm a retired IT professional desiring to assist a friend who owns a small business who recently experienced very malicious attacks on her computers from unknown parties operating anonymously on the Internet. Because
of her lack of preparation for such events, her future ability to continue to conduct her business was seriously threatened. The incident revealed, to my friend, the need to be prepared to deal with spontaneously occurring problems that create suspicious conditions
that arise with modern computer software before they can be analyzed in a sufficiently comprehensive manner to have an opinion regarding the appropriate course of action for obtaining a permanent remedy. In that, the ability to quickly react on the basis of
    only suspicion is the goal.
I want to recommend an approach that involves maintaining an offline image of an operational system that is capable of running any of her computers. This image needs to include all of the software required to run
her business. In that, it is not limited to the operating system. This single image could then be used to restore any computer to a known reliable state should the need arise. This technique will also insure that each computer has sufficiently similar capability
to allow them to substitute for each other. Insofar as image restoration is itself an operation susceptible to causing unacceptable business delay I'm also recommending that each of the identical computers (i.e., from a hardware perspective) operate in a multi-boot
environment where a virtually offline backup can be instantiated via a simple reboot (i.e., an operation that all users of the Windows operating systems turn to when strange behavior is first observed). My intention is to limit the cloned system (i.e., partition
or C: drive) to the operational software. The business data along with storage for temporary data will be isolated on other partitions (i.e, mounted with other drive letters) accessible by each instance of the software eligible for multi-boot operation.
This kind of operation is something that I know how to setup on older versions of the Windows operating system. However, Microsoft has now dropped support for all of those operating systems and my much more limited
experience with the currently supported operating systems reveals that changes to the boot process will necessitate making changes to the specific preparations needed to build such an environment.
Before recommending that my friend replace all of her computers with new ones, that includes paying for new operating system (i.e., Windows) licenses, I need some assurance that the new operating systems are as
good as the old ones in this respect. These need to be relatively inexpensive desktop computers and we're only talking about a few of them. Let's say fewer than half a dozen. My friend is a sole proprietor and even though her business has become completely
dependent on what was once called personal computers she must operate on a fairly tight budget. This especially includes the budget for technology.
The articles I've been able to find on the Microsoft support websites seem to treat multi-boot as a situation where someone is running different versions of possibly difference operating systems whereas my need
to produce a single image that will both run on multiple computers as well as multiple partitions on the same computer. I'd appreciate finding some technical advice that applies to building such a system using a supported version of Windows.

I tried the image creation/restoration described by Jared.  I don't think it makes much sense to rely on an operational system to do such a restoration therefore I opted for method 3 which involves using a "System Repair Disk".  My first
reaction is what a crude tool.  The image creation process had no trouble putting the image on a simple network share.  However, it appeared as though the restoration couldn't even connect with the device.  I then copied the files to a USB drive.
In this case the repair disk said it couldn't find the files even though they were there.  It offered no mechanism to even look and see what was there.  It appears as though it will only find the image if it is located in a folder by the certain
name used on creation and it is in root directory.  Not very handy.
As ugly as all that was when we finally come to the point of making the restore it looks like the only option is to restore the entire disk, which in my case would mean also restoring both the windows partition and the recovery partition.  This just
isn't what I want to do.  It is also something I wouldn't even consider doing unless it was the only possible way to recover from a failed hard drive.
In summary, unless I've completely failed to notice how it works that just isn't going to work.
I hope there is something better than this.  What about WinPE and ImageX?
Absent anything useful from Microsoft it will be necessary to try using other software.  Time to try Acronis!  I guess.

  • Can i back up my mac and windows operating system on the one hard drive?

Hello everyone, i use a 4TB external hard drive to back up my imac. I recently installed Parallels and Windows 8.1 so I can run a PMS for my business. Now that i have installed Parallels and windows 8.1 on the mac can i format the drive so it will back up the mac and the windows operating system? Thanks!

If you want to back up with Time Machine, you need a GUID partition table and an HFS (Mac OS X) partition. If you can also create a Windows partition without destroying the partition table, then you can use the same drive for both systems. I can't give you specific instructions for Windows.

  • How to reset the Reader Digital Book.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two different types of reset procedures you can do on your Reader Digital Book - soft and hard.
    Soft Reset
IMPORTANT: A soft reset can be performed anytime and will resolve most issues.
Locate the reset button access hole. It is labeled RESET and, depending on your model, can be found on the back or bottom of your Reader device.
PRS 500 NOTE: On the PRS-500 model, you must remove the soft cover to locate the rest button access hole.
Using a thin object such as a paper clip or stylus (included with touch models), press the RESET button.
The screen will not change after pressing the RESET button. You must now slide the POWER switch or press the POWER button (PRST1 only) to turn on the Reader device again.
    Hard Reset
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. After doing a hard reset, you will need to restore your content. Your purchased books can be restored from your account at the Reader store.
    IMPORTANT:
You should only do a hard reset if necessary and as the last step for troubleshooting.
After you do a hard reset, your Reader device will need to be authorized again from your Reader store account.

How do I create a digital book that fits tablets and computer monitor sizes?
Example: An 8.5 X 11, 2 column Word document with pictures, approximately 100 pages.
Must I also publish the book in a 5X8 format or does Acrobat have something that will do that for me?

    Starting at the end:
    - When the movie or tv show does transfer onto your iphone/ipod touch you will be able to see it in the expanded view of your device in the "DEVICES" section.
    - If the files are not on your device, then:
-- confirm you have SD or HD-SD video. HD-only content will not play and probably will not even sync. iTunes seems to reliably have SD versions with their HD distributions so this should not be an issue
-- confirm you are synch-ing the content to the ipod device by browsing the DEVICE view's Movie or TV Show tabs to confirm the movie or episode is 'checked'
    - If the files are on the iPod and you cannot find them, check your Settings: General for Restrictions.  If you restrict, for example the movies to "G" rating. PG and higher movies will sync but you will not be able to find them on the iPod!

  • Ubuntu 10 (Linux) & Firefox 3.6 ~ How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in & ActiveX control

Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux) and Firefox 3.6.3  ~  How to uninstall the Adobe  Flash Player plug-in & ActiveX control
In general Adobe needs to offer Ubuntu (Linux) support.  I don't use Windows anymore and will go with whatever company provides me the Plug In's I need to function.  In this case at the current time, I can't use Adobe flash Player to view You Tube video's.  I followed the link that helps a user fix the problem:
Solve a Problem: The video won't play:
    http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=56115
I then saw that you suggested that I first needed to uninstall any older versions of the Flash Player and then install the latest version of the Flash player.  I clicked on the link find out how to uninstall it here:
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

They didn't offer any help with Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux).  Please offer the instructions and automatic (non-terminal) uninstaller.  Also, I want an automatic installer for Ubuntu 10 (Linux) & Firefox 3.6 that is easy like like you have for Windows and like Sun's Java has for Linux.
Message was edited by: u2rcrazy  ~   Edited Title

You should go to this site to see what versions of Flash Player and Shockwave Player you have installed.
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
The versions you are listing (10.0 r12, 10.0 r2) appear to be Shockwave Plauer versions, not Flash Player.
If you want to uninstall Flash Player, there should be an uninstaller in the install directory.  I do not know where that is on Linux.

  • How to uninstall the command line tools?

I installed the command line tools in Xcode 4.5 from the preferences : downloads : command line tools.
If i want to uninstall this component, what should I do?
    PS:
I saw an answer in the Apple Support Communities about how to uninstall the Xcode 4.3 and later versions.
This is the original: " If You want to uninstall completely XCode go to launchpad and push Xcode icon for two
seconds, so click on the upper left checkbox.".
I don't know what means "push Xcode icon for two seconds, so click on the upper left checkbox".

There is no easy way to uninstall the command line tools. The following article has a script to uninstall them:
You Don’t Need The Xcode “Command Line Tools”
Read the comments in the article. I have not tested the script, but this is the first result when searching Google for "xcode 4.5 uninstall command line tools".

    Sanjeev:
Maybe you can help. I haven't been able to resolve this one "small" problem which is preventing me from rolling out iWS6.0 SP2. I created a new instance of the server using "Add Server" so that I have 2 Web sites (e.g. test1.domain.com and test2.domain.com), but the 2nd server instance is pointing to the same HTML location as the first (i.e. http://test2.domain.com takes you to the same location as http://test1.domain.com). What do I need to change and where to fix this? Need a VERY quick answer to this to implement a production Web server. I've tried the suggestions made so far (see: http://softwareforum.sun.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=181&RPAGEID=135&HOID=50B500000008000000966A0000&UCATEGORY_0=_23_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_0=server+instances&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_S=0) but nothing has resolved this problem.
