How to unlink multiple devices but still share apps, music, movies, etc...?

Our family has 2 iPod Touch, an iPhone, a Nano and an iPad. They all use the same apple ID account, so that we can share some apps, music, movies, etc... and I'm not paying for duplicates. However, each time one person downloads an app to their device, it automatically adds it to the other devices as well.
I don't fully understand the "i" world. I know my son has an iCloud account for his iPhone. I don't know what I set up wrong.
How do we fix this problem?
Examples:
I downloaded iStorybook for my 4 year old to our iPad, then it automatically added the app to the iPhone and iPod Touch
My husband downloaded an app to his iPod Touch and it automatically added it to my sons iPhone.
My husband sent an email to me from his iPod Touch and it sent the message to my son's iPod Touch

No, what I'm saying is that once you boot into OSX, you should be able to see both drives listed.  If you don't then either OSX is hiding the other drive because it sees it as a boot drive and is trying to protect the contents from novice users or there's another problem.  If it's the first thing (i.e. it's a protection thing), then your only option would be to boot into the old drive, copy off all your personal data to an external backup drive, then reboot into the SSD and go into Disk Utilities and wipe/reformat the second drive so that you can see it as a regular secondary drive.  Then when you see it as that, you can copy your data back to it.
Be carefull poking around in Disk Utility as you can easily lose your data.  It's possible the Mac just isn't mounting that second drive because it sees it as another boot drive.  Whatever you do, don't accidentally erase it without getting a copy of your data off of it because you obviously don't have that on your SSD now.

If you have access to them anywhere, restore them from it. If not, click here and ask, or redownload the applications freely.

  • I have multiple devices, I can share itunes music but not my apple apps.

I have an imac, ipad and three iphone 5s.  I can share my itunes music but not my apps.  All three iphones have separate Apple id's.  Thanks

Mac OS applications cannot run on iOS (or vice versa). If there is an iOS version of the same app available, use it for your iDevices.

  • Apple network Q, share photo, music, movies etc

    Greetings,
Me and my girlfriend currently have a PC which is working as a server and it is hosting movies, photos, music and documents to our two apple notebooks and Popcorn Hour. I want to replace the PC and buy an iMac.
    Current inventory and configuration:
1 PC (running as file server, web server and ftp server)
    1 MacBook pro (leopard)
    1 Macbook (leopard)
    1 Airport extreme
1 Popcorn Hour (media streamer for the TV)
    2 MobileMe accounts
All files are on the PC server which are shared with Windows file sharing
    What we want to do:
    - Replace the PC with an iMac
    - Access shared iPhoto library from all mac computers
    - Access shared iTunes library from all mac computers
    - Access movies from Popcorn hour (avail network protocols is smb, nfs)
    - Run a web/ftp/file server on the iMac
    - Internet and LAN remote control of the iMac from the notebooks
Can I achieve this is I replace my PC? Do I need to buy anything else like another MobileMe account, Time Capsule etc?
I understand there is allot of questions in this single thread but I appreciate any help or feedback you can give me
    Regards

    Hello 88BreckGirl,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. Now you can have up to 10 devices and computer associated with one Apple ID. The following article explains about what the authorizations are associated with.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
Now if you want to enable iTunes Match, then the following article will assist with that setup process.
iTunes Store: Subscribing to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4914
    To subscribe to iTunes Match
Open the latest version of iTunes on your computer. You cannot subscribe to iTunes Match from an iOS device.
Choose Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
From the main screen, click the subscribe button.
If you already have an existing Apple ID that you use for iTunes Store purchases, sign in with that Apple ID, and click Subscribe. Review this article if you want to use the same Apple ID for iTunes Store purchases and iCloud. Otherwise, click Create Account to create an Apple ID.
You may be asked to validate your billing information at this point.
After you have added a valid payment method, click "Subscribe" to continue.
Note: You may use store credit to pay for your iTunes Match subscription; however, you must have a valid payment method on file at the time of sign up.
Once you agree to the iTunes Match Terms and Conditions, iTunes will automatically scan your iTunes library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume iTunes at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed scanning, matching, and uploading any unmatched songs, click Done.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • My ipad1 lost sound for all games but works fine for music, movies, etc. Thoughts?

    any suggestions?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Two iPhones, Two iCloud accounts, but still sharing apps

Right now, my wife and I have an iPhone 4 (hers), an iPad, and an iPod Touch.
By the end of this week I am getting an iPhone 4S.
Right now, all of the devices have been hooked up to one Apple ID (mine).  So we are able to sync and share all apps, music, photos, etc, between the iOS device and iTunes, then to the other iOS decies.
Once I get my own iPhone, I'd like to keep our contacts and photos separate, but still share our music and apps.  Is this possible with iCloud/iTunes now?
I did some searching and couldn't get a clear answer.  It seems like I may be able to do this by creating a new Apple ID for me to use on iCloud, but still using the old Apple ID for iTunes purchases.  So the setup would look like:
Wife's iPhone: iCloud and iTunes both using same (old) Apple ID
My iPhone: iCloud using new Apple ID, iTunes using old Apple ID
Would this work?  I think it might.. but I'm not sure if over-the-air updates would allow for this.
Essentially we want to just share music and apps, and keep contacts and photos separate.
Anyone had to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does this also mean I want to disable the "Contacts" and "Photos" syncing from within iTunes, so that those only use iCloud?
That's up to you. You either sync contacts & calendars over the air with iCloud or with supported applications on your computer...do not do both at the same time...that will create a mess...one or the other. As for photos, Photo Stream is not the same as syncing photos...read here:

  • How do I separate my spouse's phone from my account but still share over iCloud?

I know there is large amounts of talk for this topic but I am not understanding what has been said.
If you are not willing to explain and post other links as your answer then do not reply.
My spouse and I have iPhone 5s and currently share the same Apple ID.  We have an iMac, iPad, and the two iPhones and I am wanting to get the iPhones separated so that our messaging isn't double tapping texts but keep the access to iCloud so that we can still share notes.
I know that you have to set up a "parent account" but I need a walk through on exactly what to do one either my phone, her phone, or the iMac to help separate the account but not loose information.  I am hesitant to just delete an account and then make a new one when the second step to link the accounts is a step of blind faith.

I don't know.  I have one iMac with iTunes and two iPhones.  I want to separate my spouse's phone from mine so that when we text it doesn't pop up as an iCloud text.
You want her to be connected to the same account as you are but yet not see her stuff in it, what use would that be.
You each need an account, to that account you can connect your own devices (iPads/Phones etc) that way you will have some privacy from each others stuff.
If you want to share stuff between the 2 accounts the answer depends on whether you are referring to iTunes stuff (music, movies etc) or iCloud stuff (contacts, calendars etc)
You will also need to create 2 user accounts on the iMac, one for her, and one for you.
So what do you want to do (within the framework I have explained)
FYI: Texts are not in iCloud, let's stop thinking that please.

  • My daughter has an iPod touch using my apple ID, I just purchased an iPhone with the same ID. Is there a way to keep my stuff seperate from her ipod but still share the iTunes account?

My daughter has an iPod touch using my apple ID, I just purchased an iPhone with the same ID. Is there a way to keep my stuff seperate from her ipod but still share the iTunes account? I was looking through the photo section on my iPhone and found pics my daughter has taken from her iPod. I do not want my pics, emails, etc to show up on her iPod. Is there a way to stop this from happening or do I have to create a different Apple ID for her to use instead?

If you have iOS 8 on all devices then:
If under 13 years create a new ID for her by:
Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support
The use family sharing to share apps
    http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
If underage and not i)S on all devices then you have to create an ID for here under your name and supervise it use:
Create a NEW account using these instructions so yo do not have to use a credit card.
Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
    More details of how:
    http://ipadhelp.com/ipad-help-tips-tricks/how-to-get-free-apps-from-the-app-stor e-without-a-credit-card/
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

My wife and I have different Apple ID's and passwords but I want to share our music library which is on iCloud under my Apple ID.  How do I set her up to share the music library that resides on the iCloud under my Apple ID?

You would need to go to Settings>iTunes & App Store, tap her ID, sign out, then sign back in with your ID.  However, if she has turned on automatic downloads, download previous purchases or signed into an iTunes Match account using her current ID, she would have to wait 90 days from when she first did this to change to another ID.  She can, of course, sync your music to her device using iTunes without changing her ID association.

Check your System Profiler to see if your computer is recognizing them. You may need to reset the computers SMC.

The computer I use for Itunes (my laptop) only has XP so I can't use ICloud:(
I have a desktop that operates using with Vista.
I downloaded 10.5 and sought to sync my two iphones and two ipads with the desktop in order to use ICloud. However I got warning messages that if I synced with this computer that had none of my extensive library of apps, music, podcasts, etc. would be on it, I would lose it all.
I did authorize the computer. I knew enough to do that but am terrified that I will lose everything that I have accumulated and still won't be able to use ICloud.
Isn't there a way to do this? Shift my library FROM my devices to the desktop?
    Thanks

This is a tedious solution, which is stupid!  And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization.  I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge!
