How to unlink video and audio in FCPX

I am new in FCPX.. can someone tell me how to unlink video and audio in FCPX ? and how to mute audio rather than low the -db ?

There's no 'Unlink' audio (as such) in FCP X but if you select a clip in the timeline, and press Shift+Ctrl+S, the audio breaks away from the clip. Select this, and you can toggle it on and off by pressing V.
Take care with this, because it's easy to get the audio out of sync. You need to move the audio and video together if you have to move them, so I would select them both and press Option+G to make them into a Compound Clip (to preserve sync).
To mute the audio embedded in a clip, select the clip in the timeline and press Cmd+4 to open the Inspector.
Click the Audio Tab at the top of the Inspector and uncheck the Audio Waveform(s). Your Audio will be muted.
To mute audio for the entire project, go to the Roles tab in the Timeline Index (next to the film reel icon) and uncheck Audio or Dialogue (as appropriate).

  • How to link video and audio channels of multiple clips

Importing iMovie08 sequence via XML ends up with unlinked video and audio channel (only one of the stereo channels; see other post).
It is possible to link each clips audio and video track individualy.
Is there a way to do it in batch mode for all the clips in de timeline??

    1. After selecting the in points on main audio and one of two video tracks, the "merge clips" is greyed. Yes,in case you're wondering, the audio is on the HD.
Your use of language is confusing me I'm afraid. You opened the AIFF file and set an IN then opened a QuickTime movie and set and IN and then with them both selected in the Browser (and the Browser the active window) that you cannot select Modify->Merge Clips... ?
I wasn't wondering anything about your audio, but now I'm wondering "What does 'the audio is on the HD' mean?"
    2. The other issue is that the starting point is silent, so the only I know how to find the actual beginning is by counting frames back from the first sound. Is that what I have to do? Is would seem to me that there must be a "marker" that's not and "in" or "out" that will allow me to merge the tracks. No?
If you set an IN point in two clips you can merge them using the Merge Clips... command with the in points option. The IN points you choose can be anywhere and for anything. They can be where the clapper hits and sounds, they can be where a drum stick hits a cymbal, they can be where someone is clapping, they can be where a body falls from a building onto the sidewalk... Anything that helps you sync the sound with picture.

  • How to Slice Video, and Audio at same time

    Hello Everyone.
When I click on Control K, it dose create a Slice in my Timeline, I want to create a Slice for my Audio as well,  at the same time.
But every time I Slice a Video, and when I want to delete the Slice portion of the movie that I cut, the audio is still there, and I have to use the Razor Tool to select the cut portion under the Sliced movie.
    Thanks
    Simon.

    Rod,
Through CS3, Ctrl+K worked on all Unlocked Tracks. With CS4, things changed a bit, as one could now Target multiple and even none contiguous Tracks. Ctrl+K still functions the same BUT now only affects Tracks that are Targeted, so no need for Locking them anymore. This has not changed with CS5.
Hope that this helps - it was changed as of CS4.
    Hunt
PS - another workflow in CS3 and before, is to do the Crtl+K and then just ignore the Cut in some of the Clips, and just Alt+clicking on what you wish to remove, leaving the others alone. Though there is a Cut, one does not have to concern themselves with them, unless they wish to. Personally, I like the CS4 and later way of doing it - saves that Locking/Unlocking, or having to Alt+click to do things. However, I am a lazy sot.
PPS - Colin brings up a good point - how one has mapped THEIR keyboard shortcuts.

  • Multicam: first cut unlinks video and audio

I have a question about something that has bugged me for a long time.  I do a lot of multicam editing and after the first cut the audio and video become unlinked and requires that each cut be done twice--once for video and once for audio.  This is really annoying because if you forget and move the playhead then you cut is out of sync and you have to redo it.
Is there some way to keep the sequence linked to make editing less tedious?

    As in, this
    vs this
I had to actually lock audio track in the first image one to prevent it from cutting both like the second image. CS6 btw...
Do you have any of the tracks deselected/locked?

  • How to get video and audio while chatting with your PC friends.

Just download a program called ivisit.
    http://www.ivisit.com/
Everything else I tried sucked. Nothing worked. Yahoo, MSN, AOL IM... they all crapped out. But ivisit rocked right out of the gate, and you can get it free.
WIth the lite version you get only one connection and it lasts for an hour. After the hour you lose video but audio and chat still works. You have to be disconnected fro the other user for a half hour for the video feed to work again.
But if your itching to connect to your family with your new iSight and all the other big name programs are disapointing you, then one hour is plenty of time.
    ivisit saved my christmas.

I agree. iVisit was a lifesaver. I was regreting getting my iSight until I had a successful connection. It was truly a Macintosh program - easy to setup, intuitive, not too much tech stuff to resort to figure out how things work. I was unhappy with resolution, though. You have to pay to get good resolution.

  • QT 7.1.5: How to merge Video and Audio tracks?

I have a movie without a sound track and a mp3-file which I want to merge. I know that both should have the same length.
First I opened the audio file, selected all, copied it - then opened the video file, selected all and pasted it. Sounds good and functioned properly.
Trying to start the movie on another Macintosh, QT asks for the mp3-file. What went wrong, what to do?
Greetings from the middle of Germany

You failed to save the new file as "self-contained".
You should use Save As and check the box for self-contained.

  • I have a clip with synchronized audio. When I trim a section of video it does not trim the audio. How do I trim both video and audio so that the clip remains in sync?

Why is FCPX not allow me to cut both video and audio tracks at the same time?
My separate synchronized audio does not trim when I trim the video. They are connected and synchronized.

Sounds like a different problem than your trim problem in the first post. If your problem is they drift out of sync, we'd need to knoow more about the project and clip properties – including how the audio file you're syncing to was created.
