How to unsync my ipod without losing my songs

My computer that I had my IPOD synced to, has died.
Now I can't sync my new computer with my IPOD, unless I erase it and sync it from the few songs on my new computer.
Or can I?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

You'll want to transfer everything that is currently on your iPod Classic to your new iTunes library first before choosing the Erase and Sync option. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

how do i update my ipod but i dont loose my music

Why would you lose your songs?
    I have never lost anything.
All of your music should be on your computer, an included in your regular backup of your computer.
If something goes wrong and the music is erased, then just sync back.

  • How to sync to library without losing my songs

    dont want to lose music

If there are songs on the iPod that are not currently in your iTunes library, you need to offload the song files from the iPod.
You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your iTunes library.  After confirming your songs are there, you can sync your iPod to the iTunes library.

Can I just delete songs or do I need to save them on an external hard-drive?

    Hi,
Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.

  • How do i connect my ipod to a new computer without losing the songs on my..

I bought a new computer and I've installed itunes on it. I want to transfer all the songs on my ipod to itunes on my new computer. How can i do this without losing the songs on my ipod? Can anyone help me?

    scottydubs,
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • HT4972 How the heck do I stinken update my Ipod without losing ALL OF MY DATA!!!

Hello, I would like to know how to update my ipod without losing all of my data (apps, music, ect.) could someone tell me please?

All that is required is to sync your iPod Touch with iTunes. This creates a complete backup of all its content.
If you read the instructions for updating iOS it cautions you to back up first.

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

"Connect to a computer. Use iTunes to restore."  When I connect to a computer, iTunes doesn't recognise it.  The iPod 5th Gen does not work at all. How do I fix my iPod without losing any data?
I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore).  Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

You will need that library copied from the old computer. If not, then you can take a look at this in getting 3rd party software to recover your library from the iPod. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

You can't. You will have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

You cannot use someone else's apps without violating the license agreement. The apps are tied to the owner (via Apple ID). The right thing to do would be to update and start fresh.
