How to update after external change of referenced file

Hello, I've imported some pictures as referenced. Then I've changed one of those pictures with another program (just orientation) and my expectation was to see the change update as well in Aperture, but when I re-opened Aperture the thumbnail was still with the previous orientation as well as the image itself. Is this correct ? How can I update the informations in Aperture as soon as a referenced file is changed by an external program ?
Many thanks.
Davide

Hi Davide.  Never.  That's just not how Aperture works.
In fact, it works much better than that.  You do know that Aperture has extensive and robust image adjusting tools?  In many cases -- and certainly in the trivial case of changing an Image's orientation -- Aperture's adjustment tools are more than up to any job you throw at it.  In the cases where it is not, you can use plug-ins, or any external editor you have set Aperture to use.
You should _never_ change, move, rename or in any way alter any Referenced Master file except using the controls within Aperture.  Doing so will almost certainly break the link between the Image (in Aperture) and the Master file, with crippling results.  Sometimes these breaks can be fixed.

  • JWS Desktop shortcut fails to update after JNLP change in 1.6.0 update 18

Has anyone else noticed the desktop shortcut fail to update after a change to the JNLP with the latest Java 1.6.0 update 18 release?
Here are the steps we've found to replicate the issue on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 using both IE and Firefox:
    1) Download a JWS application and allow the desktop link to be created
    2) Inspect the desktop shortcut and notice the path to the JNLP cache entry
    3) Modify the JNLP at the server
    4) Run the application via the desktop link - at this point the application will download updates and execute without issues.
    5) Close the application - upon close, JWS will remove the old JNLP cache entry if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions directive
    6) Inspect the desktop shortcut again - notice that the path to the JNLP cache entry will remain unchanged
    7) Launch the application again using the desktop link - JWS will fail with a cache exception if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions element or will just run from the old JNLP
I've submitted a bug but just wanted to confirm that others are encountering the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Thanks for confirming.
This issue seems to continually creep into the Java releases. In the 1.6.0 releases, the issue is resolved in update 7 through update 11. Update 12, 13, and 14 all had various JNLP issues but I did find this specific issue with update 14. It was fixed again in update 15 and remained fixed through update 17.
I submitted two bugs and provided a simple sample application on our production site to use for testing with a url to update the last modified time. If bug is accepted, I'll post it here for others to vote for a fix.

  • How we can load external html or php file in flash?

    Hi there,
I want to show my php's file desing in flash..
i m getting data through database in php file and it has
table... so I want to show that data in my flash movie...
    Please help me ..
How can I load external html or php file in flash?
If any other way is there then plz tell me.....

No.  Flash can only display html content in textfields and only supports a very limited number of html tags (look up the htmlText property of TextFields).  So to display an html/php file is not possible.

  • I updated to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5. After the update, Aperture doesn't see referenced files. I get "No Referenced Files"

I updated to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5.  All my images are referenced on a stand-alone drive.  After the update, Aperture displays thumbnails, but I can't edit because Aperture doesn't see the referenced file ("image offline") and when choose all of my images and I run locate referenced files ... I get "No Referenced Files."  I don't get the screen to "look" for the files.

Did you make a clean install and restore the library from a backup?  No.
Or did you install the new system amd new version on top of the old system?  Yes.
What version did you upgrade from? 3.4
Is your Aperture library onyour internal drive or also on an external drive? External
During the update, has your Aperture library been moved in any way? No, its still where it was on the external drive.
    Thanks for your help.  Ideas?

  • Thumbnails not updating after external editing.

I noticed the thumbnails are not updating after I use an external editor. When I bring the images full screen are they are representing correctly, but when I leave full screen the thumbnail still is not the latest image.
I tried the update preview and Aperture said it they are updated, so I did an option and update preview and that corrected them, but this should be happening automatically.
I did try restarting Aperture before the doing the "option - update preview" and that had no effect.

Do you mean it is suppose to be fixed in 3.0.1? Or do I have to wait until a 3.1 comes out.
I am using 3.0.1 now and that is where I am seeing the issue.

  • Chart does not update after table changes

Simple X-Y chart using a data series from a table. The chart will not update after changing the table, for example after applying a filter. The chart will update if you close and reopen the file or go to Select Data on the chart.  I use named ranges
because you can't use table nomenclature directly in the chart series definition.

Seems to update for me OK. You need to apply the entire unfiltered range to the chart before filtering. Did you do this or filter first and only apply the visible range?
If not the answer to you query then maybe I am not understanding the problem correctly so can you upload an example workbook?
Guidelines to post a workbook on OneDrive
Zip your workbooks. I prefer that you do not just save to OneDrive. (To Zip a file, in Windows Explorer  Right click on the selected file and select Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder.)
    Go to this link.  https://onedrive.live.com
Use the same login Id and Password that you use for this forum.
Select Upload in the blue bar across the top and browse to the zipped folder to be uploaded and select Open (or just double click). (Be patient and give it time to display the file after initially seeing the popup indicating it is done.)
Right click the file on OneDrive and select Share.
Do NOT fill in the form; "Select Get a Link" on the left side.
Click the button "Create a Link"
Click in the box where the link is created and it will highlight.
Copy the link and paste into your reply on this forum.

  • TableModel updated after UI change

    Hi Everyone,
I am displaying JTable in my UI, the table data is editable.
When I change any cell's content and tab out or click anywhere else on UI, and then click save button., the TableModel is updated and the save result is as desired.
Now, when i click save button without tabbing or cliciking elsewhere, the TableModel is not updated and the changed cell data is not saved.
Can you please suggest any solution i.e a correct approach to deal with this situation.
    Thanks in advance.
    Girish Varde.

If the above answer did not solve the problem you could also programatically stop the current editing session when your save button is pressed.
    private void save() {
       if (_yourTable.isEditing()) {
          _yourTable.getCellEditor().stopEditing();
// Do your save operation stuff
    }

  • Change all referenced files in Aperture for entire library?

    Hi experts...
All my Aperture files are on an external HDD and I had to copy everything over to a new drive recently. The old drive was called "photos", the new drive is called "My Passport". Without thinking about it, I made the new directory structure a bit different. On the old drive, my structure looked like this:
    Volume = photos
    File Path = photos/year/month/name_of_project/original_files.NEF
On the new drive, the structure is like this:
    Volume = My Passport
    File Path = year/month/name_of_project/original_files.NEF
When I started poking around in some of my projects, I found that Aperture told me that the originals were either missing or offline. I figured out how to reconnect all the originals in a given project - but I've got several hundred projects and reconnecting everything is going to be tedious and time consuming.
Is there a way (either through the program or via a script) that I can tell Aperture, essentially..."hey, for all the images in my library where the master used to be on drive 'photos' at <filepath>, they're now on drive 'My Passport' at <same filepath name except for top level directory>."
Alternatively, if I rename my new drive to "photos" and then put all the 'year' folders under a directory called 'photos', will Aperture be able to find everything magically?

    A HA!!!!
I believe that did the trick. Aperture is chunking through all the referenced files now and reconnecting them...so I wait. But I'm pretty sure this will work, now that I think about it.
Once all the images are done reconnecting I'll come back and mark this as "correct answer". Thanks!

  • How do I Move Library and not referenced files?

I would like to move the library from my external HD to my internal laptop hd so I can look at the thumbnails of my shots while on the road. I want to keep the referenced files on the external HD. How can I achieve this?

It sounds like your current setup is using *referenced masters*. If this is the case then you can just move the Aperture library over to your internal disk. As the masters haven't moved Aperture should be able to find them without any intervention on your part. If Aperture can't find the masters then you'll need to run *File->Locate Referenced Files...* to reconnect them.
If your current setup is using *managed masters* you will need to turn those into referenced masters. Whether you do this before copying the library over to the internal disk isn't critical, unless you're low on space on the internal drive. If you copy the library over before turning the masters into referenced masters you'll need enough disk space to whole library.

  • Changes in referenced files

I have a project using referenced files.
I have made changes to the files in aperture (color, levels, etc.), but these are not reflected in the referenced file (I "locate referenced file" and I find it, in the correct directory, but it doesn't have the changes).
If I "show in finder" it goes to the same file that I get when "locating referenced file," which doesn't reflect changes that appear in Aperture.
When I "export a version," the file does have the correct changes.
    Can someone explain what's happening?
    Thanks.

You are mistaken about the basics of Aperture's file handling.  Aperture features a _non-destructive_ workflow.  That means that your Originals are never altered.  (You can over-ride this, but not without knowing that is what you are doing.)
The Images that show in the Browser and the Viewer are rendered on-the-fly from your Original and the instructions in the Version file.  (The Version is actually a set of text instructions.)  Changes to the Image are saved to the Version file.  They are not saved to the Original.
Image = Original modified according the the instructions in the Version file.
Furthermore, your Images don't exist in memory or on disk when you close Aperture.  (Previews do, but let's leave those for later.)  Images are created when needed and stored in memory.  That is why, when you want to have a file to share with another program, you must export your Image from Aperture.  "Export" = "make me an image-format file of the selected Image(s)".
That's how Apeture works.  The gain in storage efficiency (for multiple versioning) is enormous.  What you have discovered is normal and correct.  (And has nothing to do with whether your Originals are Referenced or are Managed.)
Some additional information you might find helpful is in the "Version" section of this very short guide I wrote to the parts of Aperture.

  • How to refresh parents externally changed collection of child objects

    Hello,
we have an external process which updates the database independently from TopLink. We receive a notification whenever objects are created or deleted.
We have an object A that contains a collection of B's. When a B is inserted or deleted in the database, we get an insert- or delete-event for B. But we also need to refresh the object A to reflect the changed collection in our object model.
Is there any TopLink mechanism we can use to do this automatically? Otherwise we will have to manually find all the objects that reference the inserted or deleted B and refresh them as well.
We are grateful for any suggestions.

    Hello Don,
thank you for your answer. We have the back reference and at the moment follow the approach you suggested. But as a consequence we have to handle each class B individually, i. e. given our knowledge of the object modell we have to hand-code for each class B a method that refreshes all the objects referring to it. Since the necessary information to do this seems to be available in the TopLink descriptors we were wondering whether there exists a more generic way. E. g. we thought about analyzing B's descriptor and follow all one-to-one mappings to the referred objects and find out if their descriptors in turn contain a collection mapping to B in which case we would refresh them. Unfortunately that won't work in case of n:m mappings where no back reference exists.
Another possibility would be to go over the TopLink cache and refresh every entry that refers to the object in question, but we do not know how this could be done (and if it is advisable).
    Best regards

  • Apps don't update after region change in itunes!

I have changed my free USA iTunes account region to Hungarian (and added my bank account to it).
After that my previously bought apps don't update automatically, and manually too.
They don't show up in the purchased list either.
I have tried to update Skype manually (I have the 3.7.6 for my iPad), it downloads the newest version (3.8), but still keeps the original version.
The automatic update keeps saying no updates available.
If I redownload any previously purchased it still doesn't show up in purchased list (iTunes says I have to buy again),
Please help me! I can't change my region back to USA, because I don't have any bank account in the US (Apple won't allow to "downgrade" my paid account to free).
    Thanks for help
    Tom from Hungary

Go to the App Store and look for the version dates. Perhaps the developers haven't updated their apps yet.
