How to update an iphoto 4 to 5 on an IMAC G5 (10.3.9)?

How to update an iphoto 4 to 5 on an IMAC G5 (10.3.9)? When I go to about iphoto, it says iphoto 4, but in the iphotos help menu, it's all about the version 5. It's confusing. When I do check for update in iphoto, it gives me an option to buy an ILIVE 6 with iphoto 6. But I just want to update an old version. I already tried the automated software update on the computer, but it didn't say that I needed to update the iphoto software. I also checked the software update history and the last time that iphoto got updated was in 2004, but I have the automated software update on every day on the computer. I downloaded the 5.0.4 Iphoto update from the apple website, but it said it couldn't find the application. ,,grrrrrrr ,, I even tried to update the same old version from the apple website, but it said it couldn't find the application for it either. Any idea?
Thanks,
Thanh

You can't "update" from V4 to V5. The 5.04 updater that you tried is intended to update 5.00 to 5.04. You must purchase V5 as part of iLife-5 and, if you're going to do that, you might as well purchase iLife-6. (Besides, you'd have a hard time finding iLife-5 even if you wanted it.)

  • How to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

how to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • HT1338 how to update to iPhoto 11

How do I update to Iphoto 11 it says there are no upgrades available but when I now try and open Iphoto it says it cannot since it is not the latest version.

You may purchase and download the latest version of iPhoto from the App Store.

  • May I know how to update preinstalled iPhoto in MacBook Pro?I was not given the password which was required for updating.

I need to update my preinstalled iPhoto in my MacBook Pro, how ever i was not issued with the password needed for updating.

AppStore software and the free iLife included on new Mac's is copy protected and can only be updated or reinstalled (free) by the original owner.
If you bought the machine used or a "open box", the original owner should have wiped the Macintosh HD partition and just reinstalled OS X, but many don't do that or what occurs is the store reinstalls OS X free and then free iLife using their AppleID.
So when it comes time to update it, you can't because you have a different AppleID and password.
It's terrible hassle with all this mega-copy protection shenanigans because it allows someone to sell you a used Mac with tons of software for more money you later can't update for security issues and compatibly with newer OS X versions.
So you can either to choose to use it as is, or wipe and reinstall OS X and then buy a copy of the software, then it will be in your name.

  • How do i transfer iphoto from Mac laptop to iMac?

We have approx 7000 photos on our G4 powerbook. We have recently bought a brand new iMac OS X 10.5 and want to upload our old photo library to our new.
We backed up our laptop iphoto library to external hard drive in Sept 07. So I connected the ext. hard drive to the iMac and imported via "import to library". I noticed at the time that the photos flashing up on the screen as they uploaded were in a rather random order, but crossed my fingers and hoped. Then I went back to the laptop and updated the hard drive with the photos from Sept 07 onwards and uploaded those to the new iMac too.
My problem is this, the photos in our new iphoto application now seem to be in totally the wrong order, and quite random at that.
How do I fix the problem, does it involved deleting the imac photo library and starting again, or is there another way?
    Thanks

The correct way to move you iPhoto library is to copy it to the pictures folder on your new computer (the new iMac - congradulations!) - not to import it
So if you have the library that you want to move intact then trash the iPhoto library from the pictures folder on your iMac (If you want to be safe drag it to the desktop to save it until you complete the move and test it then trash the desktop copy) and copy the library you want on the iMac to the iP+Mac pictures folder and launch iPhoto - it will open that library, upgrade it as required and you will be set
    LN
PS - when you import an old library you will get at least two copies of all photos (the original high resolution and the thumbnail) and for modified photos at third modified copy - not what you want

  • How do I get iPhoto to sync between my iMac and PowerBookPro?

I'm trying to sync the iPhoto libraries with 700-800 photos each, many of them duplicates, on my iMac and my MacBookPro. And I'm not finding a way to do that. Apparently the Cloud only syncs them if I use Aperture, which I don't want to do. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

  • MacBook won't  update to iphoto 9.2 from iPhoto 9.1.1

How can update my iphoto 9.1.1 to 9.2?

    1. Apple aren't here. You're not talking to Apple when you post here and they don't read here.
    2. You need to contact App Store support. They are the only people who can help with this.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from updating

How do I stop iPhoto from updating itself every time I put a backed up iPhoto disc in to play? Now I quit or force quit iPhoto to stop it happening. Happens every time I install a CD or DVD disc. It cant possibly be necessary every time.

Chances are, that disc was created by an earlier version of iPhoto. iPhoto is trying to convert the library on the disc into an iPhoto 6 library, because the file structure is different in v6. The only fix I know is to copy the disc to your Mac, let iPhoto update your disc as an individual library, then burn a new disc that iPhoto 6 will like.

how do i uninstall iphoto? it was preinstalled on my macbook pro when I bought it used and I can only update with the previous owners password.

Do you have the current MacOS X version 10.10.2?
Then you can simply move iPhoto from the Applications folder to the Trash,
sign into the App Store with your own AppleID
reload the "Featured" main page of the AppStore with ⌘R,
then download iPhoto with your own AppleID.
Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before your launch the new iPhoto the first time,
If your current system is not Yosemite, you can only buy a boxed iLife 11 version of iPhoto to install it independent of the previous owner.

  • Updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 lost all my photos. How can I retreive them?

Updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 lost all my photos. How can I retreive them?
I'm on a MacBook Pro using OS X version 10.9.5.
When I attempted to edit a photo in the version I had at the time, I got a message that I must update to iPhoto 9.5.1 to use that function. So I did so. When I reopened iPhoto, all my photos were gone. I looked for them in finder but found none of my photos there in the iPhoto library either.
My Time Machine backup, directs me back to iPhoto.
I just want to re-load my photos. Can you help?

What do you see when you launch iPhoto? How big is your iPhoto library? Where is it located?
Directions for using Time Machine to restore are at the bottom of this article - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
And note you NEVER use the finder to access your photos - you only access them using the proper tools - How to Access Files in iPhoto
