  • How can I stop iOS3 iPod Touch v1 apps being removed when iTunes updates apps with iOS4   apps

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS5 whilst my old iPod Touch Mk1 still runs on iOS3. My old iPod now rests in the handbag of my wife who will use the installed apps if she is near a wifi she can use. There is however an increasing problem in that wheras it is more than capable whilst running the old apps iTunes is automatically upgrading them as new versions are released and increasingly upgraded apps only support iOS4 +. The obvious answer of buying a new iPod does not compute, its a good iPod and despite years of regular use the battery life is more than reasonable and the iPod function wit h16gb is more than adequate so I refuse to commit it to the silicon graveyard yet ( i still run old G3 and G4 macs as servers and have an old Classic that still provides amusement at parties).
If however this automatic upgrade and trashing of old apps continues it will not be long before one day we sync the ipod and find it wipes al lthe apps off as they are no longer iOS3 compatible. Anyone ever found a way to protect the apps of an iOS3 device whislst all ipods are synced from the same iTunes user account?

There really is not god way.  Whatyou migh consider it sonnecting the iPod to a different computer and transfering purchases to the computer.  That way yu will still have the version of the apps that are compatible with the iPod.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
At a later date if necessary you can delete the newer apps from the library of the syncing computer and put the older ones in and do what you want to the iPod.

  • Question:   How to update app with a new version with new SQLite tables?

We're updating an application in the App Store, and haven't yet found good information on how to deal with updates to the SQLite Schema and data that should be transferred between apps.
    Anyone successfully done this?
Q1: Does the old DB files stay on the iPhone after update? Does the installer do a "diff" between them? In our case, we just extended tables, rather than changing them, in hope that we can successfully move the data for users gracefully.
Q2: If the installer does in fact wipe all the data and files on the app before install, is there a way to access the data before it updates, so the app can gracefully update the data?

    Good Sir,
I would thoroughly appreciate you responding in a helpful manner rather than punishing my question with no regard to my question. Your harsh, quick, and false judgement was certainly not appreciated here. In regards to the macbook release: I was simply wondering IF there were releases of information that I had not heard of. I wasn't asking you to spill rumors of never released info.
Maybe you should read this material a little more carefully without hastily looking forward to ripping apart a wondering mac user.
But in regards to the SQL, I enjoy the following:

If you're at the iTunes store, click on Library button at the top right. Then on the top-left side click on Apps and at the bottom right click on Check for updates.

  • How to update apps in itunes 11

Cannot find in Itunes 11 how to update apps.  The phone indicates availble updates, which I can do directly on the phone.  in itunes 10 you could update apps and save the cellular data.  I cannot find it.

No one has offered this solution yet:
I also had the problem where the "View" menu did not have a "Show Sidebar" option, and there was NO pull-down menu in the upper left (not "apps", not "music" -- no menu at all).  The problem, as said earlier, is that I was 'looking at my iPhone'.  I.e., topics listed at the top center were: "Summary", "Info", "Apps", "Music", etc., and I had already clicked on "Apps", which is not the thing to do (unfortunately).  There is no pathway from the "Apps" option for the iPhone section to actual App updates (sigh!).  Solution:
    1.  If you can't find the "Show Sidebar" option in the "View" menu and don't see any pull-down menu at upper left, click on the blue "DONE" button in the upper right.
    2.  This should get you back to your library, and now be able to see the pull-down menu at upper left and see the "Show Sidebar" option in the "View" menu.
        a.  If you do "Show Sidebar", the page will look a lot like earlier (better) versions of iTunes, and you can click on the "Apps" line near upper-left.
         b.  If you go to the pull-down menu, instead, you get the same 4 choices that are in the sidebar ("Music", "Movies", "TV Shows", and "Apps").  Clicking on "Apps" gives you the Apps page, with any available updates mentioned at lower left.

  • Why i'm unable to update App with different Apple ID? (it gives me an error: Impossible to connect to iTunes Store)

    Hello,
i installed a lot of Apps on my iPad (both free and purchased), then a sad day  i had to change my apple ID (due to some mistakes in configuring the ipad for my wife with a different apple ID and for icloud...).
Now i have apps with my last apple ID account and apps with my previous one.
When i have to update Apps with my last apple ID, there's no problem, but when i try to update Apps installed with the OLD one a problem occurs and even if i type the right password for it i get always the same message: Impossible to connect to iTunes Store!
Password for old apple ID is correct because i can log on line at account page on https://appleid.apple.com/it/
I read everywhere that having Apps with different account on the same Ipad is allowed, so....What's the Problem??
    thank you in advance.
    Bye

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

  • How to update apps in iTunes 11.0.4.4

    Hi,
Is anyone able to tell me how I update apps via iTunes in version 11.0.4?
    Thanks

I saw that the Apps box was unche cked in my General Preferences (Edit -> Preferences).  I checked the Apps box and then "Apps" reappeared in my Sidebar.  If you click on Apps, there is an option for Updates in the menu across the top.  But I didn't have any apps appear on the page after I clicked Apps.  I went to the store and downloaded a free app.  That one appeared in the Apps list.  But my other apps do not appear.  I'm assuming it's something related to syncing (if I sync my device then the apps might reappear).  But I'm having Wi-Fi sync issues as well.  This "update" *****.

  • IOS 5 Install Instructions (How to restore apps with progress, how to install on a computer you don't normally sync with, etc.)

This isn't really a question, but that doesn't matter, right?
First of all, you know how to upgrade, right? Install the new version of iTunes, plug in your iDevice, click on it on the sidebar, and click Update.
PRECAUTION: You should sync first, but it's not required at all, especially if you CAN'T sync because you're updating on a secondary computer. iTunes will create a backup for you during the update process.
If you are updating on a computer that you normally sync with...
    Just click Download and Update!
If you AREN'T updating on a computer that you normally sync with...
You'll get a message that says it will erase everything on your iDevice.
    Who cares? Just update!
    Estimated download times:
    Download Time: 30 Minutes
Backup Time: (Around 30 GB of data) 1.5 Hours (DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!)
    Update Time: 10 Minutes
After the long wait, and something on your iDevice shows up about setting up a new device, jump right in and answer the 5-10 questions or so!
Then, you'll see your new iOS 5 iDevice for the first time.
WAIT, ALL OF THE APPS, MUSIC, and MORE are gone!
    NO NEED TO PANIC!
This is normal, and WILL happen in 90-95 percent of users! There is a way to stop this from happening, but don't go that route... It takes DAYS to do... There are two ways to restore all of your apps, WITH THEIR PROGRESS TOO! (Angry Birds time!) Apple will NOT charge you for redownloading!
    1. Just go into the App Store on your device, go into updates, and click the new purchased bar. From there, click the little cloud next to all the apps you need to download. They will redownload with their progress!
    2. Or, you can go into iTunes, (Purchased tab), and from there redownload all of your apps.
This WILL happen whether or not you do this update on a computer you normally sync with or not. I did this update on a computer I don't normally sync with and it worked perfectly!
I waited four days researching what will happen if I update on a computer that I don't normally sync with, but with no avail, so I decided to bite the bullet, and this worked perfectly! Time to work on Angry Birds! iOS 5 is worth the 3 hour wait!
Any questions, feel free to ask!

This is not working for me. I synced to my computer first, then I did the upgrade on my iphone 4. Once the upgrade completed, my phone got an apple symbol with a line under it, and it is just frozen. I tried to sync back to my computer 3 times, and each time, it stops on step 3/4 for the sync. Under the apps, it says something like 'searching for apps to load.' It freezes there for hours. I waited 7 hours the first time, woke up, did it again and 11 hours later, come home from work, stuck on the same screen again. I restarted itunes, and it will not even let me press the sync button. It is like the sync button is already clicked, and it says - 'loading device.' It has been stuck on that for hours.
I am so disappointed with this 'update.' My phone worked fine yesterday. Can somebody tell me what to do to get my phone to work again? I do not even care if I keep the update or not. I just want a working phone. Just to be clear, I lost EVERYTHING. I lost the ability to even turn my phone on, and apparently, my computer lost the ability to 'read' my phone. I can see all of the info on my computer, but my phone will not power on, and the computer will not sync my phone to the info that is stored.

  • How to update device with new Apple ID

I have an iphone 4s and I can't get the appleID changed on the device itself as the address is grayed out.  Any ideas on how to change the applieID on the device once the the appleID has been changed on the website?  It also appears that I cannot log-in with my old ID but yet I can't get it off my phone.  Therefore I cannot download anything on the iphone itself.  Thanks!

As stated the only way to update apps associated with an old ID is to enter the password for the old ID. To change this delete the apps associated with the old ID. Backup data first as deleting the apps may result in the loss of its data. Also note that you will have to purchase again any apps that have a fee.

  • How to update apps when another person used their apple id instead of mine

Another person set up my mac 3 years ago and used their apple id to download apps but I no longer know them. How do I do updates for my apps with my id?

You cannot. You will need to Purchase those Apps using Your Apple ID.
Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

  • Errors Updating App with Application Loader

I have an app that I transfered in on itunes Connect and I am now trying to update it with a new version that I have created in Indesign.
The App version was 1.1 and the next version i want is version 2.0
Adobe have bumped up my app to version 2.0 for me so it shouldn't error when I try to udate it but I'm still getting errors when uploading the .zip file to the application loader. See screenshot...
Is there something I should have done once adobe bumped up the version?
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. Any Suggestions?

    Hi Neil,
Well, I'm experiencing the same problem as everyone.
We contacted gold support, and told us that it was a known issue and being investigated. The Bug number is 3632264. Any updates?
So, I tried tweaking App Loader and App Builder for the "version mismatch" and I think I solved it. However, the only problems left are the one's below. What do I do next?
    Thanks!

  • Updating Apps With New ID

I recently changed my apple id, because that email address no longer exists.  Now I am having trouble updating my apps, how do I fix this problem?

You can only update apps using the same Apple ID used to purchase them. There is no way to change this by yourself. You need to open iTunes, click on the Account link under QuickLinks. Send your request via email.
