How to update discoverer plus

Hello everyone,
i've been using for a lot of time discoverer desktop to develop reports and now i'm migrating to discoverer plus because of a better set of functionalities (but maybe a worse usability :-)). i've in my system an application server with installed discoverer plus but i would like to update it to the last version available without re-installing the whole application server.
I'm trying to find out a procedure to do that but no success till now.
Is it possible to do something like that?
And if yes where can i find detailed information about a single component installation?

Hi,
With the latest version of Discoverer there are different ways of installing Oracle BI. You may be able (if you want to) use your existing AS configuration but it depends on what version you have, whether you are installing with eBS, whether you need an AS infrastruction etc. The documentation (http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13918_03/assoc.htm#sthref115) is a good starting.
You don't say much about your existing setup so it is difficult to be more precise.

To upgrade from discoverer desktop to discoverer plus i have installed required components in following order:-
1.Database :-11g R2
2.RCU:- to create discoverer schema
3.weblogic server 10.3.4:- domain not configured
4.fusion middle ware components(discoverer,web cache):- for discoverer plus and viewer
during this process i found following problems:-
1.during database installation "EM.EAR" missing.
2. at end of middle ware installation domain creation failed and all other tasks as well so, finally i got error message of configuration failed.
and i am new to oracle kindly guide me and suggest me how to configure ,thanks in advance .

Pl identify the OS you are installing on.

I'm having trouble locating updated pantone plus libraries in adobe's website.

They are not available separately, they ship with Photoshop. The latest versions get the updated libraries. You may want to consult Pantone and see if they offer this.

Discoverer PLUS integration in Portal

Hi,
I know that Discoverer viewer can be integrated within Portal fairly easily. But, i wanted to know how to integrate Discoverer Plus (witch offers more options) within Portal. Did anyone attempt that successfully? And how?

we have tried integrating 1 sample application in portal by creating a BSP iview and it took some features of portal theme.\
I hope if we could change the whole portal theme through theme editor, all the CRM applications will take portal theme.
we will just integrate the first page of webclient with the portal through BSP iview. is this approach correct or I am missing something.

Where can I download Discoverer10g including Discoverer Plus?

Hi all,
I downloaded Developer suite 10g, then installed Discoverer10g. But all I got is Discoverer Desktop and Discoverer Administrator. I want to know how to get Discoverer Plus.

You cannot choose to only install Plus or Viewer, they are just components of Oracle Business Intelligence. When you look at the downloads page you can choose either the stand-alone version which has only Discoverer or you can download the full-blown application server which has an infrastructure and portal as well.
If you only want Discoverer you should download the stand-alone version which on the OTN download page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
is simply called Business Intelligence.

How to open a defult workbook from Discoverer Plus

Hi all,
Is it possible in Discoverer Plus for a user to open a pre defined worksheet in a workbook when he logs in without having to select the workbook and then select the worksheet?
Please advise how to achive this.

This is possible but you will have to alter the URL call to do it and add the workbook name to the end of the URL.
You can use either the names of workbooks and worksheet or unique IDs of workbooks and worksheets. Using unique IDs is easier and helps avoid encoding problems with long names. Unique IDs are language independent. The following are the URL parameters to use while working with workbooks and worksheets.
Discoverer Plus Relational:
Workbooks:
opendbid=<workbook ID>
opendbname=<workbook name>
Worksheets:
sheetid=<worksheet ID>
sheet=<worksheet name>
Discoverer Viewer:
Workbook:
wbk=<workbook ID>
wb=<workbook name>

To find the unique ID of a workbook, use thie workflow:
1. Launch the Open Workbook from Database wizard
2. Right-click the workbook name
3. Select Properties.

To find the unique ID of a worksheet, use this workflow:

Please check Discoverer configuration guide which tells you which parameter to change in preference file(pref.txt).I think you change the value.

How do I set the default currency in Discoverer Plus?
The currency in currently defaulting to $. Where is the setting to alter this so we can have UK pounds instead? The data has been entered in GBP.

Thank you Esther, but, following your steps, when I get to Select Currency, there are no symbols to select. There is just a generic symbol, which means it will pick whichever currency is defaulted. All I can do is tick or untick the 'Use' box.

How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

Hi,
I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?

I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
1. Basic Install
Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
and OWSM.
2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
b. J2EE Server and Web Server
c. J2EE Server
d. Web Server\
According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.

Which produces the number of actions performed (from an event table, user_activity) grouped by the hour of the day they occurred (including displaying hours that have zero records - this bit is important!). I want to be able to put this into Discoverer plus as a worksheet, but I'm having trouble trying to figure out how.
I was able to create a custom folder in Administrator for the select from DUAL, but I cannot link it to the user_activity table because there's no relationship between to two tables to create a join.
The user_activity table is:
USER_ID - VARCHAR2(8 CHAR)
EVENT_DATE - DATE
EVENT - VARCHAR2(100 CHAR)
The custom folder is this part of the SQL:
SELECT TRIM(to_char(LEVEL - 1, '00')) hrs FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL < 25
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, though I'm not sure that I understand what you are suggesting.
Which query would you turn into a view? If you are referring to the select from dual, then how would the view be any different from the custom folder? You still would not be able to join it to user_activity as there are no common columns.

How to manage number of OLAP Discoverer Plus reports

We are currently running Discoverer Plus OLAP and experiencing very slow performance.
OracleBI Discoverer version 10.1.2.55.26
D4O Build 10.1.2.55.26
BI Beans Build 3.2.3.1.36
JDK Version 1.6.0_23
Oracle RDBMS version 10.2.0.5
The D4OSYS.BISM_OBJECTS table in production contains almost 300,000 rows equating to over 25,000 reports.
During testing in our performance environment we found that reducing the number of reports significantly improved performance. For example, when we click on the drop down menu in the available items panel with 25K reports, it takes 12 seconds. When we reduce the number of reports to 8K it takes 4 seconds. When we reduce the number of reports to the bare minimum for our application (approx 200) response is almost instantaeous.
Is there a best practice for the number of reports for this type of environment?
Is there a way to enforce a maximum number of reports?

Hi Joanne
25,000 reports is high. I've seen a few places with more but not by many so you are right up there at the top of a small list. I'd hazard a guess to say that some of them must be redundant.
The first thing I would advise would be to get your DBA to reorg the table. This way it will have the optimum settings and the indexes will not be lop sided. Also, please make sure your DBA is gathering statistics for this table otherwise if it has been a long time the optimizer will have trouble figuring out how to get data out of it.
With regards to redundant reports that will be a little more difficult to resolve. You probably need to go through a clean up exercise and ask your users to get rid of unwanted reports. You should also check to see if any reports are owned by ex-employees. These can probably go. However, I would advise taking a backup first - just in case!

Go to Settings>wifi and turn wifi on,. Then tap the network you want to join. Enter ther passward for that network if it is required.

Why isn't Discoverer Plus working with Java 8 Update 25

I updated Java to version 8 update 25, my discoverer plus version 11.1.1.7 is not longer working due to "Application Blocked by Java Security". The detailed message is "your security settings have blocked an application from running due to missing a "Permissions" manifest attribute in the main jar.
I tried to enter the URL to the exception list, and I tried to uncheck "use TLS 1.2", still nothing worked. Any ideas?
