How to UPDATE ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, build 207095 using SSH or VSphere CLI remotely!

Hello Guys,
Over the past few hours I have been posting related questions and I have gotten a little closer to updating my server/host.
I have gone to the ESX Server 3i updates (Embedded and Installer) and I have noticed that the first build for ESX 3i is 207095. Which means that I have not done any updates since the installation. CORRECT!
Now... I have been using "ESX Server 3 Patch Management guide, which instructs us to use esxupdate, but it appears that some of the command in that document is not supported on my host.
This post: vihostupdate35 | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs ..... Tells me that I will have to use "vihostupdate35" from a remote CLI which I installed but cannot see how to connect to the server as I cannot find any document that shows the syntax etc.
At this point I am confused and frustrated and just need a little more guidance from someone who could point me to a document or copy and past the procedures I need to use to get this update done.
I have downloaded this file to do the UPDATE: "ESXe350-201302401-O-SG.zip" and I have extracted it on the host on a Datastore and copied it to my "/Tmp/ESXi350" folder.
I have also extracted it there as well just in case I need to browse to the extracted folder, and run any command.
Can anyone out there help me with the correct SYNTAX and METHOD to get this update installed?
I can connect with SSH from a windows machine using puTTy.exe as well as I have VSphere CLI installed on another Windows PC and can browse to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin" folder to run "vihostupdate35.pl" I can see it in the folder with a "dir" command:

I missed an update and for that reason I have to do a clean install as stated at the link above.
My version cannot do any upgrade or update anymore!

According to your description, you want to use SSRS to update data in database table. Right?
Though Reporting Services is mostly used for rendering data, your requirement is still can be achieved technically. You need to create a really complicated stored procedure. Pass insert/delete/update and the columns we need to insert/delete/update as
parameters into the stored procedure. When we click "View Report", the stored procedure will execute so that we can execute insert/delete/update inside of the stored procedure. Please take a reference to two related articles below:

How to update VM Server 2.1.1

Hi,
I am trying to install iscsi-target-0.4.16 in a VM Server (see Metalink doc. 567407.1) (The objective is to create a sharable disk for RAC on an Oracle VM environment). However, the VM Server does not have required packages (such as cc, the C compiler). Since VM Server is not a complete EL-4 or EL-5 (or is it?) and my test system does not have direct link to internet (for up2date to work), is there any way I could update the system so that I get all the needed libraries?
I got stuck in my attempts to install rpms one by one because of the dependency and upgrade issues.

Thanks for your response. However, I am not sure if I understood. I already have Oracle VM 2.1.1 installed, but it does not have C compiler to run the 'make' command for the installation of iscsi-target. How would I update my Oracle VM server (with 2.1.1. already installed) with needed development environment (such as C compiler and other libraries) so that I can install iscsi-target?
As I mentioned already, trying piece-meal installation of individual RPMs for C compiler and other dependent libraries failed because of inter-dependencies of the packages.
I did visit the e-delivery site, but I could not figure out how to do the above. If you could please clarify a little bit further, I shall be thankful.

How to update db server connection for objects in business view

I had to migrate to a new SQL server for my main user database (sql 2008)
crystal itself is fine, and I have updated all of the reports to use a different connection string.
but I had forgotton about the dynamic dropdownlists in business view..
what is the best way to update the connection for those ??
I will go through each one manually if I have to.. but was hoping for something a little easier

Open the config.cfg and then change the JdbcPasswordEncoding=Intradoc to JdbcPasswordEncoding=ClearText and then enter the new password in JdcPassword=<new passwd> . Save the file and then restart the CS. It should get going from there.

How to update a server from Solaris 10 MU6 to Solaris 10 MU8

Hi guys,
I've a problem here that it should be easy to solve for some GURU experts like you :-)
I've a server with Solaris 10 10/08 (Update 6) and I need to go to Solaris 10 10/09 (Update 8).
Looking at Release note and other relevant Sun documentation doesn't provide a clear method to upgrade from MU6 to MU8.
Three things are important here:
1) I need to preserve data and applications, so this MUST BE an upgrade, not a FRESH INSTALL
2) we don't have a CD/DVD in the server.
3) we have LDOMs installed on this server (the Guest Domain and the Logical Domains need to be patched).
Can anybody tell me if this is possible and if there is any good document describing it?
P.S. - unless the solution provided into the article "http://blogs.sun.com/patch/entry/solaris_10_10_08_patch" is the only one, I would prefer an update and not a patch.

My guess is that you have already completed this upgrade, but in the event that you haven't I recommend that you use NFS to either mount a DVD from another server or else copy the OS DVD to a local drive on a server that has a DVD drive and then NFS mount the file system on the server you are trying to upgrade. I use NFS fairly often for upgrades and for patching. I have one server that has a file system that contains the source code from the installation DVD and another file system that contains the most current patch cluster.

Here is an example of a DML handler.

apply_database_link => NULL,

This DML handler which will send any LCR matching the specified conditions to the strmadmin.update_column for customised processing.
You can write the strmadmin.update_column procedure so that it extracts the old values from the LCR. You can then use the old values from the LCR to identify the row in the table. Once you identify the row, you can update it as you want.
I haven't really tried to do any customised processing using DML handlers, but this should work.

How to tell what was the latest patch installed on VMware ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, 207095

I have been running an old server that was installed as a test system on a DELL workstation - Optiplex GX620 (32 bit).
During the installation I had to confirgure the file: /usr/lib/vmware/installer/Core/TargetFilter.py to change the following line:
"return interface.GetInterfaceType() == ScsiInterface.SCSI_IFACE_TYPE_IDE" to read:
"return interface.GetInterfaceType() == ScsiInterface.SCSI_IFACE_TYPE_ISCSI" this made it worked and I have been using it for 3 years now. However, at this time I was hoping to update it with the latest patches and updates and I cannot figure out if I have ESXi or just ESX, nor what was my last update and what is required next.
I have used this command to get the following output:
# vmware -v
VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-207095
... I believe the 3i indicates that I have an ESXi 3.5.0 but is build-207095 the same buid as ESXi 3.5.0 Update 5?
If not, how do I go about updating it? What is the KB # I should download?
I can manage it using vSphere Client 5.5 and I can SSH into it using Putty.
Note: When I run... "# esxupdate --bundle=ESXe350-201302401-I-SG.zip update" from within the folder where its at in the datastore, nothing happens... just a new line is scrolled.

I wanted to tell you that I appreciate the help so far.
Also wanted to point out to you, that the KB indicated above is older than Update 5, which from your instructions is what I have installed. That KB is for U2.
Now, the document definitely has step by step instructions on installing, querying etc. But my problem is ... NOT ALL COMMANDS WORK FOR ME!
This is why I am here because all the instructions I have been reading does not work with my flavor of ESX 3.5.0, 207095... WHY? It has me stumped.
For example, here are some commands the doc asked me to do and they failed: (Note that I had to unzip the folder on my windows box and upload it to /tmp using vSphere Client)

Could any one of u tell me how to update the value of elements in an XML file, using java? The reason is i want to use an XML file as a data source (i.e. more or less like a database), without using any RDBMS, for simple applications such as to read a record and update the record. By the way, my XML file will have only one record, such as the current weather information, with fields such as temperature, humdity etc. for 1 city only.

I was facing the exact same issue and just figured out the solution: the issuing storage location is only accepted if the supplying plant is passed at the same time (in the header structure). That solved the issue for me!

when you use the htmldb_item api to render form elements to your pages, those values end up in the htmldb_application.g_fNN arrays. i'm not sure how you defined your first report region, but you seem to be populating the g_f01 through g_f04 arrays with your second. if that's the case, try populating g_f05 with your first region. a query region like...
select htmldb_item.text(5,ename) from emp
...would do it. you should then be able to access those submitted values in the htmldb_application.g_f05 array.

By using a well-known port (I think the default for JavaIDL's NS is 1049) on a well-known address (localhost).
As these values are not really standard, you can specify them when starting the server and client (+-ORBInitialPort 1050 -ORBInitialHost localhost+). See the documentation .

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
