  • How to update firmware with a Mac?

    Hi there¡
I want to update my N95 with the 20.0.015 firmware version.
The point is that I am a Mac user, so I can't use the PC suite.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi koyote
As a Mac user I use Windows under BootCamp, although NSU may also work under a Windows emulator I personally would not be happy doing this.
I presume that there is no NCP within a reasonable distance to carry out software update for you?

  • SSD's which are OK for updating firmware on a Mac?

I'm looking at a couple SSD's for a MacPro, any thoughts on which are OK with updating firmware on a Mac? Probably better to ask now before I need to..
Crucial M500 or Samsung 840 Pro?  I'm assuming that OWC's offerings are probably the best for Mac compatiblity, any others?
    thanks in advance.

Firstly there is a near identical question about setup of just days ago that hopefully you found and looked at in your research.
System on SSD / scratch for CS6 / projects
Lloyd's blog is full of tips: http://www.macperformanceguide.com
Start with what SSD (single) then get into multiple and setup and apps and how they are used, which really might be first thing to ask?
The Pro uses highest quality but both have much of the same controller and firmware - and it was just reviewed as to what the diference is. Find and read that.
Rick over on MacGurus setup an old working model for PS: a scratch disk + working project files is the fastest - was done with SCSI and then the first 10K SATA Raptor. Probably still holds true.
No you are not limited - I strongly suggest you set it up on Sonnet Tempo Pro RAID card and then use one 250GB 840 to start with, then add 2nd. Use one of the PCIe slots for your SSD(s). Maybe start with a 500GB.
Maybe use JBOD to combine two but not in RAID0.
The system can go on SATA II drive bay or optical bay.
Is there a one size fits all or to say this is the only way? of course not, you can though test and try and work with your budget, your Mac and move SSD to  where it does the most good.
Samsung starts mass producing PCIe SSDs with 1400MB/s read speeds
When the new MacBook Air got the teardown treatment... a new SSD.
The new drive is known as the XP941 and Samsung will offer it in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations. It achieves read speeds of 1,400MB/s, which clocks it at 2.5x faster than a SATA SSD. It also only weighs 6 grams and measures 80 x 22mm. Samsung claims it only takes up a 7th of the space occupied by a typical 2.5-inch SSD.

    Samsung 840 Pro and Samsung 840 Solid State Drives Reviewhttp://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/samsung-840-pro.html  [06/07/13 | Storage ]
Samsung currently offers very interesting solid state drives. Some boast outstanding performance, others – are built with inexpensive TLC NAND and come with a very appealing price tag. And our tests prove all of this: we are ready to discuss what we saw when we got our hands on a Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB and Samsung 840 250 GB drives.

X-bitlabs is also one of my popular stops and they look at Sandisk

I am sold on Samsung though and feel the 840 will do fine for me, but I would use $$ to get Sonnet Tempo SSD or Pro from OWC.

OK, makes sense. Any idea what the DMG preference should be in Firefox?
It was set to "Always Ask"
... and I changed it to "Use MacOS"
The funny thing is that all the other updates (these were Add On updates) that I ran downloaded the DMG file and it started right up. It is only the Adobe products (Acroread, Flash, ect) that are having troubles, and they all get the same error.
    BTW - Thanks for helping!
    NEW UPDATE:
Found /System/Library/CoreServices/DiskImageMounter.app and set the Firefox preferences DMG file to use that now.

    Hello Kappy,
Thank you for responding so quickly. I went online to Apple to update my MacBook Pro 2007 (Mac OS X 10.4.11) I have Firefox 3.6.28 as my internet connection. I downloaded the firmware to my MacBook Pro. I opened the Firmware restoration CD download and the following files were there:
    IM51_0090_08B.fd
    IM61_0093_05B.fd
    LICENSE
    MB21_00A5_06B.fd

    MP21_007F_02B.fd
    README
    XS11_0080_00B.fd
When I tried to open them to figure out which file I needed for the update. I received a message saying an application is needed to open the file(s). I do not know where to go from here. Do you have any idea how to proceed? I truly appreciate your support.

  • How can update firmware on a GTX670 or HD5450 GPU?

    Hi
How or where can I get the firmware of a EVGA GeForce GTX670 or a XFX Radeon HD5450 updated so I get to see the white EFI screen when booting my Mac Pro?
I installed the GTX670 a few months ago and the Mac Pro boots and works fine with it.  What I would like to do is fit a SSD drive and install OS X.  Without the EFI screen I can't start to install OS X off the DVD.
I look forward to some ones help
    Gary

Never really wanted to crack open the Mac Pro, but the original Radeon wasn't upto the job of running X-Plane or Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) in Boot Camp.  The Pro is supposed to be my software development system.  If I could be rid of Windows, I would.  DCS is Windows only so I will have to knock together a PC.
A bit off topic... I also 'fly' X-Plane.  A friend and I have built a flight simulator that works with X-Plane.  A couple of concept drawings attached.  Instead of hydralics we used pneumatic rams and quiet compressors.  The simulator works very well and is great fun to fly.  I am now writing the software to get the simulator to work with DCS.
Back on topic... Hopefully Apple will release a Mac Pro with SATA3, Thunderbolt, USB3, the ability to have multiple GPUs and use tech like SLI and PCIe 3.  The Pro deserves a good overhaul.
In the meantime the Sonnet kit looks cool.  I am liking the idea of a MacBook Air + Sonnet Echo + GTX670.  If that would work(?)

  • How to update firmware with a boot camp'd macbook?

this is pretty frustrating..... there seems to be no way to update the firmware on a macbook that has had xp/vista installed. the disk is no longer a GUID type, it's an MBR disk now, and the EFI partition is gone. i could recreate the EFI partition but that wouldn't help at all with the GUID problem.
i installed mac os x onto a clean external usb drive, which is now a GUID disk with the right file system and so on... it doesn't have an EFI partition, which i would have thought the mac os x installer would have made. the firmware updater has the big ! on the disk and says it doesn't meet the requirements.
any ideas here? will the firmware update simply not run from an external drive? if so, how on earth is someone supposed to ever update their firmware if they use boot camp?

When you create GPT using Disk Utility on your USB/FW it will have EFI and GUID, but you won't see them until back in Windows.
And yes, you should be able to run firmware updates off USB drive with OS X. Should. But that doesn't always mean will/can or that it was even tested in that configuration
Boot Camp is for GPT with an MBR table to trick or allow Windows to install. If you formatted a drive internal as MBR you didn't use BC or at least not need to.

  • How to update Firmware

    Hi,
I have a E66, but when i run the Nokia Software Updater, it states that i have Firmware v. 200.21.118 and that there is no new Firmware!
How do i update the Firmware then?
I want to update because of some problems wiht the alarmclock and batteri life.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If the updater says it isn't available then all you can do is wait, checking the updater often.
Firmware is not released at the same time all over the world and it can take a month or two to be widely available. Network branded/supplied phones take even longer to get updates and this is controlled by the networks, not nokia.
So really all you can do is wait and be patient as no one here can tell you when it will be released.
Any methods of forcing an update that you may read about elsewhere cannot be discussed here as warranty voiding topics are against the rules.

  • How to update firmware on Samsung 840 pro SSD?

I just bought a samsung 840 pro SSD and am trying to look for a way to upgrade the firmware to the latest version.  Apparantly it is only possible via windows, has anyone found a way to do it on a mac?  I received my SSD yesterday and there was a firmware update released by Samsung on the 13TH December but i am unable to update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

This is why I don't recommend Samsung SSDs to Mac owners. Crucial, OCZ, SanDisk, Intel, and Plextor (I think) have firmware updates that can be performed on a Mac. While I wouldn't get a SanDisk or Intel for other reasons, it wouldn't be because of inability to update the firmware.
