How to update iPad operating system from 4.2.1?

How do I access OS updates for my iPad. I have version 4.2.1 and I'd like to upgrade.

You seem to have your OS's confused.   Your profile says 10.6 but you are asking to update from 10.5.8.
10.5.8 is Leopard.   It is also the highest level of Leopard you can achieve.
10.6.(x) is Snow Leopard.   And 10.6.8 is the highest level you can achieve.
If you have 10.6 then all you will need to do is download and apply the combo updater.
If you have 10.5.8, then you will need to review the machine ... Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -Read the Technical Specifications
Subject the machine will take it, you will then need to buy Snow Leopard from your National on-line Apple store.
Before you start upgrading, back up your files.   If you are unsure how best to do this, the following link is hugely informative.   Most commonly used backup methods: Apple Support Communities
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, your upgrade will take you to 10.6.3 and you then will need to apply the Combo updater. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
and follow with software updates to pick up the most recent security and iTunes updates.
This will give you the best and highest level includine the App Store.

I have been trying to update the operating system on my ipad but each time i do it crashes at the last stage, can anyone help?
It says the connection is timing out once it is 1% from complete!

If you are having problems downloading the iPad iOS update and you're getting a network timeout message, then have you tried temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software whilst the download is happening ? A number of people on here have been able to download successfully after doing so.

How do update latest operating system to my mac 10.4.11

My mac is outdated and doesn't even support my iphone.....I tried to download the new lion operating sytem but it said I need to have Leopard already installed, so I realized I'm starting a journey that may have no end! Bascially my current mac is five years old with the 10.4.11 software, I'm trying to discover a way to download the latest software, or even something that is close to the latest.....So do I have to go back and download 5 operating systems concurrently, or what is the process. I was about to order the Leopard operating system and thought I better figure this out in case it gets here and my computer won't download it because my system isn't ready for it. On a similar note, is this software available to download online or do I have to order discs and wait for them in the mail? I realize my tech savvy is coming through at the elementary level it is, I just am trying to get the most out of my Apple products and add an Apple TV and wondering if this Mac has any life left in it. I am more than willing to buy lots of software, I'm sure its more cost effective then a new Mac....Anyways if anyone is willing to tackle this and give the right advice or even point me in the right direction I would be very grateful! You purchase Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD from a place such as the online Apple Store, run Software Update, and if desired and possible, use the Mac App Store to purchase Lion.

How do I uninstall Operating System from SSD

I have just purchased the hightest spec 27 inch Imac with a combi Hard Drive, 2TB Serial ATA + 256GB SSD.
The Operating System has been installed onto the SSD, actually I want it installed on the 2TB Serial ATA Drive,
how do I uninstall & reinstall the Operating System. Basically, this computer will only be used for Photoshop CS5/6
so I want to use the SSD as a scratch drive!

This I agree to. For something like an Macbook Air, they can make sense for near instant on and fault tolerance. But for an Imac, if you have enough real RAM, it becomes a latency thing on app start up and not a speed thing....and the latency between clicking an app and it starting is already small. Where you may notice the latency is waking from sleep on an iMac, probably little else.

While updating to iOS 8.1 on my iPad (My iPad is model A1459. Don't know if it's an iPad or iPad 2. It's just over a yer old), it froze on Terms & Conditions and is not responding when I press: "agree." I can't close it or use the iPad at ALL now! When I turn it off and on again, it comes back to the same frozen page after I enter my PIN. I had about 98% battery when I started, so didn't plug it in. I still have 91% battery. Do you see a half moon icon in the upper right corner of the screen? If so, you have Do Not Disturb enabled. Settings>Do Not Disturb. Turn it off.
Or do you have system sounds muted?
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center. Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

I would put the ipad in recovery mode and redo the update, once that is done you could restore the ipad from your backup and you would not lose any data.
