How to update my 10.6.8 mac to yosemite?

I recently decided I'd really like to update my mac, but when I clicked the "Get" button in the app store, it says "this version of OS X 10.10 cannot be installed on this computer." How can I download it? According to the requirements page, I should be able to. I have an Intel Macbook from 2008.

I don't know how to update my 3.0 Boot Camp because the files available on Apple's download page are all .exe files.
How can I do it from Mac OS since I don't have Windows installed yet?

The downloadable files are Driver Updates and have to be used while in Windows.
The Mac OSX BootCamp Assistant (in the Applications/Utilities folder) is not updated by these .exe files and the latest version of it is 3.0.4 (325) (OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8).

First, I have bought Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 with Lion installed.
Secondly I have bought Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion installed.
Now, how can I update my 2011 mac to Mountain Lion if I have it on my 2012 mac?
If I visit AppStore from my 2012 mac it still tells me I have to buy Mountain Lion in order to download it.
PS: I have created bootable USB by restoring its contents using Disk Utility from Recovery HD of my 2012 mac.

You'll have to buy Mountain Lion for your 2011 that came with Lion.

you update your site by going to iWeb and hitting the publish button! this will copy all the files up again and your site is online.
if you start to have a bigger page you can only upload the changes (pages that are in red in the site organizer) by going File/Publish To .Mac!
to autoplay music see here. when you re-publish your site you have to do the same stuff over again!

How do update new Library files on Mac?

Maybe I'm missing something, but what I want to do is update the current Library files to share with another computer to reflect current additions (playlists, songs, etc.) I don't want to "create" a new library and I don't think I want to "back up" the current library - I just want to update it as it is right now. What is the right way to do this? (iTunes 10)

do you mean you got a new Mac and want it to have the exact same library you have on the old one ?
if so, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
you could also use _*Home Sharing*_ to transfer content between your computers.
alternatively, you could use 3rd party tools such as TuneRanger, Syncopation or PowerTunes two keep two libraries in sync.

I have tried the Adobe DNG converter (v8.7.1.311) but when I choose the folder where the photos are, it shows an error reading "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files". I cannot find any other software for Mac which claims to be able to do this. Can anyone help?

If I have to convert RAW to TIFF to be able to use Lightroom, will it have been worth me shooting in RAW at all, or will I do just as well staying with the highest quality of JPEG I can get from the camera? You don't. Apple controls all of that through Software Update. Doesn't matter if the manufacturer of any component in the system has come out with an updated drive/software for their products. Apple will not allow it to be installed unless they set it up in Software Update.

Update Samsung SSD Firmware on Mac

Hello,
I am a proud owner of MacBook Pro i5 with a Samsung 128 SSD.
Recently, Samsung issued a firmware update. Normally, I'd have to take the SSD out, plug it into a SATA Windows machine, create bootable USB and update the firmware there.
Does anyone know any workaround on how to update SSD firmware on my Mac without having to plug SSD into windows machine? I recently found some blog about creating bootable WinXP CD and install firmware that way. I tried that, but it did not work, as I got some error messages while creating the BootCD and then the SSD updater from Samsung did not work...
I need this firmware because of TRIM support for Win7.

Thanks for your answer, but thats not gonna happen, since the firmware needs to be started from a USB bootable disk. You cannot boot it off of BootCamp partition, since firmware update wipes all data from SSD.

Has anyone been able to contact Adobe to learn why their Flash Player does not work on Mac OS 10.6.8, no matter how many updates you install? This seems like a big error by Adobe.

I have thee Mac computers with Mac OS 10.6.8, one of which is a Mac Pro. No matter how many updates I install from Adobe, their Flash Player does not work on any of these 3 computers. I don't know how to contact Adobe Systems about this problem, but I think it is their responsibility to make sure that their so-called "universal" software works proplerly on a relatively recent operating system like OS 10.6.8 that is still in widespread use. When you install the updates, nothing happens -- not even an error message. What is the point of a universal player that is not universal? It works fine on my MacBook Pro with OS 9 Mavericks, but it does not work at all -- indeed, has never worked -- on my 3 Macs with OS 10.6.8. Has anyone contacted Adobe Systems to find out why the Flash Player does not work with OS 10.6.8 and what they plan to do about it?

Get the appropriate dmg installer here and then run it.

If it still won't install, do these two things: First uninstall any Flash by going into the second level Hard Drive Library>Internet Plug-ins, and trash the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt. Then boot into Safe Boot, Shift at the startup chime (give it much longer than a usual boot) and run the installer while booted in Safe Boot.

Years and years ago when I paid for an email address with mac.com I opened my itunes account and all. After getting tired of paying for an email account I made a new one, which I can't remember but I thought I changed it, but obviously the .mac stayed on. My itunes is a gmail account and I have no problems there. But today when I updated my iphone, after downloading, iphone asked me to enter password for the .mac account. Well I have no idea what that is now. I don't know how to even retrieve it. I can't find the settings to change it over to my gmail account either on my phone. I go to itunes and it has the gmail account listed, but when trying to activate some things that involved the update, it still asks for .mac account password. I'm beginning to think this is why I can't get authorization on some of my itune songs to play, they keep saying can't authorize when I am still within the 5 computer limit. If you are seeing the old Apple ID with regard to this Mac, then it would seem that somehow you have incorporated the ID in the setup of this new Mac.
Iphoto i use never used imovie.
If you began using iPhoto without having Accepted it into your Apple ID, then that would explain why you are unable to update the app. If any of the iLife apps are used without Accepting them into your Apple ID, the ability to accept them will lapse and you will not be able to update them.
