You need to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom ROM.I am not sure it will work on the ray:

  • Update for Xperia Ray SI 1252-1257

Back in May this same question was asked with the answer being soon-ish!
I wish to ask it again as its now over 3 months later and almost all Xperia Ray SI's have the Ice Cream update available expect SI 1252-1257.
can i request when this SI will be ready for updating?? as mentioned by the previous user it is a Vodafone AU SI number.
if unsure, is there a specific reason why Vodafone AU SI 1252-1257 is delayed??

If you have an operator customized SI I can't promise you that you will receive the update since your operator will have to accept the update before it can start to roll out.

  • How can i update my xperia ray into ICS?

i have tried the update with pc companion but it is showing an error "Unable to install or start phone software update components". I have also downloaded the SUS software but it is not working in my windows 8 machine. Is there any way to upgrade the OS directly from mobile? Or how can i update it in any other way?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We don't have a PC companion version tested for Windows 8. (Microsoft® Windows XP™ SP2 (32 bit), Vista (32/64 bit) or Windows 7 (32/64 bit) Only) That's the issue in your case.
    But try this:
If you are getting the error "unable to install update components"
    1. Close Pc companion
    2. Install Java from: http://www.java.com
    3. start Pc companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
    Then:
    Run the Pc companion Software
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer
    1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9
    2. In the welcome screen if asked click on start, Next you will be shown what media go offers, click on "next" then you will see a presentation on what support zone offers, click on "Finish"
    3. In the next section from "support zone" and "media go" new select "support zone"  and click on start.
    4. On the next page select "Software update" and click on "start"
    5. The program will say that there is no phone connected and will ask you to connect but disregard that and instead choose the option to "repair Phone".(the program will issue you a warning on the content that you will lose during the update)
    6. Choose the option to continue.
    7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
    8. Choose the Phone from the list (close to the bottom of the list)  click on the icon for the phone and then click on "next"
then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet)
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
    9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then follow the instructions on screen to connect the phone, if done correctly the program will say "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of  "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..."  is shown.)
    10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
    11. If the PC Companion proceeds correctly wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help with Xperia Ray Update and software

    Hello,
I am here to ask about 2 main topics, I need a professional opinion about them,
First, I was wondering why My ray doesn't have the 3d camera application although I saw it in other Ray phones from another countries - I am from Egypt - Is that an application that comes with the country?!!
and why I can see a voice dialer application in settings/applications/manage applications, but when I try to find it and use it, I can't find it's shortcut anywhere?
Second, I received the new ICS system update 4.0.2.A.0.62 but I haven't installed it yet on my mobile, because I'm afraid that it will affect on the speed and battery of my phone, so I really need your opinion about that, is that update going to slow down my phone or not ?
and if it is going to slow down my phone, is there any other update that might be better.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to you all.

it seems that ICS might not be available in your country and/or by your carrier if you want it

  • Xperia Ray update to 4.0 ? Still not happened

I've just got hold of an Xperia Ray as they are an ideal size phone / not massive.
I'm trying to find out if the UK has had the update to Android 4 ICS yet - i'm currently running 2.3.4, and the PC companion says that there is no update available. - I'm currently on O2, but unlocked to all networks if that makes any difference?
    Thanks for any help

Yes, the situation remains the same unfortunately as it is dictated by the network that your handset was made for.

  • How to overclock Xperia Ray?

Lets get directly to the point -
    Mobile - Xperia Ray (ST8I)(Urushi)
    Build Number - 4.0.2.A.0.62
Kernel version - will provide only if asked
root access - yes (the phone has already been rooted by flashing .42 kernels, using zergrush method and then flashing .62 kernels)
    Bootloader - Unlocked using Flashtool
    I want to ask that-
    1) How can I Overclock my mobile? I have already tried setCPU and CPU master but of no use.
    2) Is it recommended to overclock it as it is a compact phone and gets pretty hot while charging! If yes then to what limits?
    3) An of-topic question - Whenever i remove my memory card, I loose all the icons of apps installed on my memory card. Is it normal? Anyway to prevent it?

You will have to search at XDA
