How to update recovery partition from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3

I recently update my MBP from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3.  I also use BootCamp to Windows 7.  When starting the MBP with holding alt/option button, it says that the recovery partition is still in 10.8.2.  How can I update the recovery to 10.8.3?
Thanks in advance.

Being new to Mac OS, I thought that the Recovery partition should the same with the OS installed.  So when I want to recover my MBP, I can recover to the latest OS installed on the MBP.
Anyway, what the function of the recovery partition? I know that I can restore my current setup and data using time machine.  Or the time machine rely on recovery partition to restore the data?
When using the Recovery partition to Reinstall OS X (for your new Mac), you will get the version of OS X that shipped with your Mac (unless Apple updates that version on their servers). So, for example, let's say your Mac shipped with 10.8.2 (Recovery partiton also that version) and you update OS X to 10.8.3 from Software Updates. When you restart into the Recovery partition using the Command+R keys and you want to Reinstall OS X, you will get what ever version is out there for your Mac model which might be 10.8.2. This means after the install completes you would need to run Software Update to update it back to 10.8.3. So, the version of the Recovery partition has no bearing on what version of OS X will download. Lion (10.7.x) was the same way until version 10.7.2. When updating Lion 10.7 or 10.7.1 to 10.7.2, there was also an update for the Recovery partition. To my knowledge there haven't been any Mountain Lion updates like that. The full installer will always write a Recovery partition and the version number will be the same as the OS X version. However, Software Update will not update the Recovery partition.
The functions of the Recovery partition are many. When you boot into it you see the OS X Utilities menu. From there you can Reinstall OS X, use Disk Utility to manage your drives, Restore from a Time Machine backup, use Terminal (from the Utilities menu bar option) to do command line commands, change your Startup Disk and other functions.

  • How to create recovery partition in new(changed) HDD.

my new HP pavilion g4 laptop HDD have crased, then I replce it by HP care. I upload original win 7 by recovery disk(DVD) but when I open my computer it shows only one partition (C drive, there is no recovery partition and HP tool.
So how to creates recovery partition by recovery disk(DVD)...........please help me.

    Creating the recovery partition
Right-click the start orb, and start 'Disk Management'.
Shrink the C: drive by let's say 20-30GB.
Then create a new Partition and assign the R: label to it and name it RECOVERY.
Then open command prompt as administrator and type: 'recimg /createimage <directory>',
In this case: 'recimg /createimage R:\' to save it on the new partition.
This step may consume a lot of time.
Now we need to register the newly created recovery image: 'recimg /setcurrent <directory>'
    'recimg /setcurrent R:\'
    Voila you are done.
    Restoring from recovery partition
You may want to use this restoring method by default, because it is the easiest way to do so if your recovery partition is still intact. If not, look at the other recovery methods to see which suits you best. This is usually the way you reset or refresh your Windows installation if you purchase a computer from a brand like Lenovo instead of building one yourself
Press the Windows-key + C to open the charms bar or swipe in from the right.
    Click Settings.
    Click Change PC Settings.
Click Update & Recovery in the menu on the left.
    Click Recovery.
If all your documents are safe and sound in your user folder, you can use Refresh your PC without affecting files. However I still recommend taking a back-up... If you want to do a complete reinstallation of Windows and also clean your user folder in the process then choose Remove everything and reinstall Windows.

  • Remove the Recovery Partition from an HP Stream 14-z010nr Laptop

I used the Recovery utility to create a recovery thumb drive.  I would like to remove the 7GB recovery partition from the 32 GB SSD on my machine.
    How do I do so?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

A number of laptops and tablets from different manufacturers have the same problem.
    The usual reply is:
Use an SD/microSD for the extra storage.
    The slightly better reply is:
Install programs directly to the SD card by creating a folder on it called "Program Files" then just change the drive letter when installing.
But some software will not allow you to install to removeable media
    The best reply is:
    1) Create a new folder on C: called "MicroSD" or similar (your choice)
    2) Right-Click on "My Computer/This PC" icon and select Manage
    3) Select Disk Management
    4) Right-Click on your SD card (usually D and select Chang Drive Letter..
    5) Click the Add... button
    6) Choose "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder" and browse for your new folder
    7) Click OK
    8) Return to C: in Windows Explorer and find your new folder, which will now appear as a shortcut
    9) Right-Click and select properties
    10) de-select "Read only" and click OK
    11) Double-click the shortcut and create a new folder "Program Files". If you are on 64 bit windows create another called ("Program Files (x86)"
    12) You should now be able to see the "Program Files" folder if you open the D drive with Windows Explorer. This proves it works!
You can now install all and any software on your newly created folder, including all 10GB of Visual Studio 2013!

  • How to estimate recovery time from rman backup

how to estimate recovery time from rman backup?
The database is of size 800GB.
the approximate time to backup is 8- 10 hours.

"Recovery time" is : RESTORE DATABASE time + RECOVER DATABASE time.
    RESTORE can be done
    a. in parallel with multiple channels if your backup was created as multiple backupsets
    b. using incremental backups
    c. whether the backups are on
    i. disk
    ii. tape
Alternatively, if you have a Recovery Area with an Incrementally Update backup of the database, you can SWITCH DATABASE almost immediately
    RECOVER depends on
    a. how many archivelogs (in terms of size, not necessarily number) need to be applied
    -- this depends on
    i. transaction volume
ii. the "freshness" of the backups (how recent the backups are)
    b. whether required archivelogs are available on disk (which can be the case if the database backup itself is a very recent backup and archivelogs since then haven't been deleted {whether they have been backed up or not}) OR whether they need to be restored from
    i. disk backup
    ii. tape backup

    Hi,

First to find duplicate row then update duplicate row with no to that duplicate row in oracle.
can you give me suggestion on it?
    Thanks in advance.
    your early response is appreciated...

In order to find a duplicate row, see:

(or search this forum, your question has been asked before)
In order to update it, just create and use an Oracle sequence, have it start and increment at a value that doesn't exist in your table.
If that doesn't get you going, post some CREATE TABLE + INSERT INTO statements, and the results you want from them, in other words: a complete testcase.

  • Sir i have deleted recovery partition from my laptop

sir how to get recovery partition back to my hard disc without using dvd's into which i hav rided recovery media creation

    Hi,
It's certainly odd that the discs haven't re-created the Recovery Partition - the only suggestion I have at the moment is to try the process again as follows.
First, click the Start Menu, open Computer and double-click Local Disk C - you should see a folder called swsetup.  This will contain all the driver installers and practically all of the software installers for your notebook - back this up to an external device/media.
Next, back-up all your personal files etc to an external device/media.
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the Power Button to launch the Start-up Menu.  Insert your first Recovery Disc.  Select 'Boot Options' in he Start-up Menu, use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and then hit enter - press any key if prompted to start the Recovery Process.  Choose the 'Factory Reset' option.
When the process has completed and you are in Windows, hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and when the partitions have loaded, see if the Recovery Partition D is now listed.

  • The recovery partition from my hp presario cq50 104ca notebook has been removed, if you are able to

    Hi to all
Assume that the recovery partition from my hp cq50 104ca has been removed because in the past many times, I could reset back to factory setting, just by holding down alt and control and  f11 by starting point. But now since few weeks can not do it. If you are able to assist me with that issue however.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Munir,
If you have created your set of Recovery Discs, you can use these to reinstall the operating system - this procedure will also re-create the Recovery Partition on the Hard Drive.
If you don't have these discs, you can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.

how to update Ipad 2 from IOS 4.3.5 to IOS 5? Itunes won't let me do it because it keeps showing error messages asking me to check if my network is active.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

  • How to update info cube from PSA

    Hi,
how to update Info cube from PSA.
Coz we have changed the update rule for one characteristic. What is the implication of updating it from the PSA.
    Regards,
    Viren.

    Hi,
Now there is one more problem in update rule.
We are using " 2LIS_03_BF " as datasource.which doesn't contain Sales organization,Division or Distribution channel.
So in transfer rule for the infosource "2AF_MM_INV_1" we can not update the salesorg, division and Distribution channel. In communication structure all these objects are assigned to respective info objects.
Now in Update rule we have kept Division and Sales organization as initial.Still we are getting correct data for the Division and not a single record contains Sales organisation and for distribution channel we are using update routine..
    SELECT SINGLE DISTR_CHAN INTO DISTR_CHAN
    FROM /BI0/MCUST_SALES WHERE DIVISION = COMM_STRUCTURE-DIVISION
    AND SALESORG = COMM_STRUCTURE-SALESORG
    AND CUST_SALES = COMM_STRUCTURE-CUST_SALES.
Now my problem is this update rule fatches record on the basis of cust_sales only as comm_structure doesn't contain any thing for division and sales org.So how to get value for sales org and Division in Communication structure.
Summary, I want to get data for Distribution channel and sales org in my cube.
    Pls help me out...
    This is very urgent..

    Viren.

  • Equium will not boot - how to access Recovery partition?

Hi, my sister has a 2008 Equium A200-1V0 with Vista 32-bit which will not boot (probably due to virus rootkit damage). It loads the BIOS but then goes straight to black screen with flashing cursor.
    F8 does not work.
F2 goes to Phoenix TrustedCore Setup utility. The Toshiba hard drive and CD-ROM drive are listed in Main and Boot in the correct order.
Using F12 I can get it to boot from a Win7 64-bit repair disc I burned using my laptop.
However, this does not recognise the OS nor any image or restore points (because it is 64-bit) but it will load Command Prompt.
In *Command Prompt*, I can start Notepad and when I click File/ Open and double click on Computer it shows 4 Hard drives as follows:
    Local Disk (C:)
Data (D:) 42 GB free of 54.5 GB
WinRE (E:) 1.11 GB free of 1.46 GB
Boot (X:) 29.0 MB free of 31.5 MB (which is used by the Repair disc)
So the C: drive is listed but without capacity.
    *CHKDSK*
chkdsk c: /r and press return
"The type of the file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

    3 P HPFS - NTFS 7477 118 2 14592 190 62 114307072 (data)
    * = Primary bootable
When doing Quick Search and then P - list files, of the second partition it reports:
"Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged."
So what I would like to do is boot up from Windows Restore on the E drive.
My question is to any Toshiba experts: When F8 does not work how do I use the recovery partition???
    Laptop is:
    Part Number : PSAF5E-002005KS
    Key Features
    - Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2310
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

    - 2,048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB RAM (667 MHz)
    - 15.4 " WXGA TFT display 1,280 x 800

    *UPDATE*:
I have borrowed a genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit dvd and booted up with that.
    Clicked on "Repair your Computer"
Then it goes striaght to System recovery Options but no Operating System is shown. Click Next.

    This is working fine.
    CHKSDK C:
The type of file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
The HDD is 120 GB and is split by Toshiba into 3 partitions.
C:\ drive (56GB) is bootable with Windows - this is corrupted.
D:\ drive (55 GB) has all Data - fully accessible
    E:\ drive is CDROM
F:\ drive (1.46 GB) is the WinRE recovery partition - this is fully accessible.
So my question still remains: can I recover my Toshiba laptop using this recovery partition?
PLEASE NOTE: as mentioned above, pressing F8 during boot has no effect and therefore Safe Mode cannot be accessed.

Does anyone know how to remove a recovery partition in Windows 8 tablet devices?

You can't remove the recovery partition because it is necessary for WIMBoot. Basically, the recovery partition has a copy of the Windows image that it uses to boot the system. This is done to save disk space on the primary partition, but doesn't seem to help much on the Pavilion X2. If you try and remove it with a third-party utility, Windows will be unable to boot because it can no longer find the necessary system files. Here's an article about WIMBoot and how it works: http://www.howtogeek.com/196416/wimboot-explained-how-windows-can-now-fit-on-a-tiny-16-gb-drive/
The only solution I've found is deleting all partitions and installing a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 from a flash drive. This will create a traditional Windows installation, without WIMBoot. Note that this will still create a recovery partition, but it will be very small (less than 500mb in my case). My Pavilion X2 had about 20 gb of free space after installation, on a 29 gb primary partition. This is without any updates installed.
The real mystery here is why the "HP Support Agent" didn't know any of this, and essentially advised us to destroy our Windows installations. HP needs to train their support agents better.
