How to update Safari on Snow Leopard IMac

I have an IMac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Have occasion to run Mail Chimp and it says Safari needs to be updated.  I've run my Software Update in the Apple Logo drop down box and it reports that all updates are already complete.  Why would Mail Chimp say that the Safari program was not adequate to use their program?
Is there another way to update Safari?  I see something called "Safari Extensions" on the drop down for Safari.  Would this be what I need to load?  They are all various commercial programs that hook up to Safari.

1. If you're using Safari 5.1.10, it's up to date as far as Snow Leopard is concerned. Going further requires upgrading the computer's OS.
2. Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

    Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
    If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. When you complete the registration screens you will be offered an opportunity to migrate your data from another Mac. Follow the instructions to migrate your old Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences to the new iMac.
    If you have already gone through the Setup Assistant and created an initial admin user account, then you do the connection step but will use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder of the new iMac.

    I backed up 6000+ photos from Snow Leopard iMac v.10.6.7 to new Western Digital "My book" successfully, I think! But when I attempted to COPY my photos to it in order to free up space on my HD, I made a mistake. When I dragged the iPhoto (11) Library to My Book and re-named it to "iPhoto Library.old" nothing happened. So I dragged it again, re-named it again (same name--that was the mistake, I guess!) and then it took about an hour+ to do its thing. When finished and I launched iPhoto by holding down the Option key, the dialog window listed two libraries: "iPhoto Library.old" and iPhoto Library.old (default)". So now what? It seems that I still have the originals when I open iPhoto, and do I have two copies, also? Should I delete one of them and if so, which one and how? Or should I eliminate both of them and start over again? And if so, how do I do that? Right now, neither my HD nor the My Book have changed the number of GB available or free since before I began this process. Will the numbers only change after I actually delete my original Library AND empty the Trash? I appreciate any light you can throw on this subject for me. I could lug it all to the local Genius Bar, but now I'm afraid to unplug anything for fear I'll lose everything! Thank you, you wonderful, bright people. (An 83-year-old Grandma, trying to keep up a little, at least)

    Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but  maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
    But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
    Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
    Thank you so much for  beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message  that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!
    So your kindness is very much appreciated.

  • QT_WriteObject problem in Safari only, Snow Leopard

    Can someone help me display my H.264 movie on a web page?
    I have a H.264 encoded file which will not consistently play in Safari under Snow Leopard using QT_WriteObject. It does play in Firefox and XP/ IE 7, and will play in Safari if you give it the .mov file directly. I have 3 computers running Snow Leopard, and one of them, an iMac, will sometimes play the file. I booted the iMac into Leopard and it played the first time. The quicktime plugin shows as 7.6.3 in Snow Leopard.
    I have tried various combinations of the parameters for QT_WriteObject. I think the movie is 640 x 480 . I have added a little to the vertical so that the controller will show completely in Firefox.
    Here is the html I am currently using. The file is at tnwheeler.com/alaska1.html. There are no errors in the error console.

    Trip to Alaska in 1993
    This movie is in standard definition.
    At this time, this movie will not show in Safari. Please use Firefox.
    <script language="javascript">
    QTWriteOBJECT('http://tnwheeler.com/alaskafinal.mov' , '640', '500', '',"autoplay","true","bgcolor","#000000") ;
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>

    Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I tried them both, in fact they are up there now, but no improvement. PageOT is a nice program. Actually, I started with the straight <embed> statements because they had always worked for me before. But I went to QT_WriteObject before posting because I thought people would say to try it.
    I noticed your OS is listed as 10.5? Is this still correct? If so, that may be why it works for you. I booted to an old version of Leopard, and it worked fine. All of my other videos work in Snow Leopard/Safari except for this one. It was created in the same way- exported from FinalCut (latest version) and then taken into DVKitchen for the H.264. Most , if not all, of the others are hidef, whereas this one is standard def.
    I think it is either a problem in how it was created (not by me, so I can't do much about that) or Safari under Snow Leopard. But the fact that it will play from the url, but not from the embed statements really has me puzzled.

    I have Mac OS X 10.5.8. How do I upgrade to Snow Leopard to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    Your machine is likely too dated to run 10.8 at all , or if it does will run slow.
    It won't run your PPC based software or hardware drives for external hardware.
    10.6 will run your PPC software and likely is best for that machine performance speaking, Software Update to 10.6.8 and stay there.
    You better do your research first.

  • APple MBP v1.3 Update after a Snow Leopard 10.6.4 reinstall

    Is the Apple MBP v1.3 update part of SNow Leopard 10.6.4 Combo Update and if not how do I go about installing Apple MBP v1.3 update after I have already installed snow leopard Combo Update from 10.6.3?
    From the APple Website the v1.3 update will only install if you have 10.6.3 Snow Leopard and might become an issue if trying to install it after 10.6.4 Combo Update has been installed.
    So my question is:
    Is the Apple MBP v1.3 Update part of the 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Combo update?
    Thanks

    Run Software Update. If it doesn't list Apple MBP v1.3 Update as an available update then you don't need it.

  • Huge memory leak in java jvm after update 2 for Snow leopard

    Since I updated to Java Update 2 for Snow Leopard my JVM suddenly grows massive (10GB+ real memory - -Xmx=3500m) consuming all memory and rendering my iMac unusable. This does not happen predictably but does happen several times a day now requiring I power off and on again.
    I had been living happily with update 1 with no such problem.
    I need to either go back to update 1 (should have it on Time Machine) or find a solution for this problem.

    Our application is a j2ee-based commercial application facing to specified customers, having about 120 access request an hour.
    We ' re doing stress test on the test server. The strange memory leak occurs at 1:20 am this morning while we're out of company , and no job was scheduled to run at that time. So I have the tendency to image that there is something inside oc4j had occured.
    I have used OptimizeIt to monitor the heap status. However , as the memory leak problem occurs very occasionally ,and that tool deadly slows our server, we are currently using no profiling tools.

  • TS1394 Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)

    Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
    Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
    Please help.

    Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
    You should be able to download it from here

    if my calendar, etc on the iphone were I to update to ios5 and cloud would  synch satisfctory (usul caveat) with my snow leopard imac not cloud connected?

    It is a very impressive phone.

  • How do i upgrade my snow leopard to the latest version

    how do I upgrade my snow leopard to the latest version free of charge
    thank  you

    10.6.8 update is the latest version of Snow Leopard. To check if you are running that, go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac and it should tell you.
    If you want to upgrade to the latest version of OS X (Mavericks, 10.9.1 - free) you can select the App Store from the Apple menu and download it.
    However, ensure your Mac meets the tech specs: https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ and be aware that although the specs say 2gb or RAM is required, real-world use seems to indicate that 4gb is a realistic minimum.
    Also many older apps will not longer work in Mavericks and PowerPC apps will not run because Rosetta, which enabled the ability, is no longer supported/available.
    Check out this compatibility list to prepare your self for possibly having to upgrade or replace apps that you may a rely on in your work flow.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps
    The Mavericks installer is a 5.3gb download - you may want to make a copy of it before running it - could save another large download in the future if you ever needed to re-install.
    Ensure you have reliable backup you can restore from before embarking on the upgrade.

  • Safari in Snow Leopard

    I have upgraded to Snow Leopard weeks ago, and have been having minor issues. I usually use Firefox, but a website requires Safari in Snow Leopard to run - well, I've downloaded the Safari off of the snow leopard disk THREE times and it still says I have an invalid version on my computer and cannot run. I also just installed all the current FEI updates and all that stuff, to see if it would help - alas, I still do not have the ability to run Safari. This is killing me because I need this website to study for a huge test tomorrow, so any quick suggestions would be kindly appreciated.

    HI,
    If you are running 10.5.2, go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates. It's very important to keep your system software up to date.
    After you finish with the installation, repair disk permissions.
    Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • FaceTime fails to connect snow leopard imac

    The setup is a home network with ethernet to an up-to-date snow leopard iMac and the WiFi on the same subnet, running off of a Linksys wft54g with the latest firmware. uPnP is enabled on the router.
    From a Macbook Air with Lion on a network at work, I can call and receive FaceTime calls to the iPhone on the home WiFi network.
    However, FaceTime rings but fails to connect on the iMac.
    So, Facetime to/from iPhone is going through the same home router over the same network using the same DNS, etc.. and it works.
    But Facetime to/from the iMac does not. I've tried with the firewall on/off on the iMac as well as google DNS, etc., with no luck.
    If the Lion MBA is on the same network, all works fine.
    Any ideas? What is different about Facetime btw iPhone and snow leopard iMac that causes this difference?
    Much appreciated.
