How to update to osx 10.6.8

Have OSX 10.5.8 and need OSX 10.6.8 to update iTunes so I can synk my iPad. Is this possible? I can't afford to buy a new computer at this time.

How To update Mac OSX 10.3.9 (Dual 1.8ghz)

I recently purchased an iPod Classic but it won't operate from my system (Which is lame!) ... I was considering updating from Panther to Tiger or Leopard (they seem to be the same price) ... I've read many posts about the new Leopard's bugs etc., also I'm about to start doing some pre production (music) from home using Pro-Tools --- And I read on the digi design site that Leopard is not compatible with their system as of yet ...After reading the post I'm leaning towards not getting Leopard until Apple works out the kinks - Now Tiger ... on the iPod Classic box it requires Mac OSX 10.4.8 (which I didn't see until I got home) --- It looks like on the apple site that Tiger runs 10.4.6 -- (***??) If I purchase this can I download a Tiger update 10 10.4.8 or higher ? I'm confused and frustrated ---
If I knew this I would have purchased an iPod Video 5th generation from one of the commercial stores (same size) and it runs on Panther... and it cheaper ...
PLEASE someone let me know what my best option would be ... beside returning the iPOD CLASSIC ...

What is the Processor speed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
Note that the stated System Requirements for any version of OS X, are the bare Minimum.
As roam posted, once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), 10.4.x to 10.4.11 (Pending), and 10.5.x to 10.5.1 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements. Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

While trying to update other software, I get a message This software requires Mac OS X 10.3 or newer. My current versions is OS X 10.2.8 (G5). So how do I go about updating? I have never done this before, so will need someone to tell me all of the steps.

My "About This Mac" box says that I have version 10.7.5 and when I click "Software Update" it says that I have the latest version of OSX. When I go to apple.com, however, it says that there is a OSX 10.10. Why does Software Update not find this?
Further, when I click to download 10.10, I get a Launch Application window that says I must choose an application to open a file. What application would I choose for this?
And finally, do I want to do this? I am interested in a software package that offers a version for 10.10 and some other versions down to 10.8, but not 10.7. I have read about some problems with OSX 10 on the Apple site. Would it be possible to have both OSX 10.7.5. and OSX 10.10 in something like a boot camp arrangement, allowing me to preserve my present arrangements and have the option of loading 10.10?

If you have enough space on your disk drive, then you can partition part of it for another version of OS X. But first, you need to know if your model can run a later version:

I just spent 80 EUR's on a new apple trackpad and its a nightmare to upload which i never thought would happen with Apple.

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

It appears that many of the problems with the HDMI are the "monitors" that are being used. Samsung and Vizeo both DO NOT support a computer input on HDMI only VGA. There probably are others, manuals must be read to confirm compatability.
I strongly believe that the reason the 10.8.2 update was pulled is due to the fact (it happened to me) that the new Disk Utility creates a Fusion drive if aftermarket SSDs are added to the system. I think Apple wants this propriatary Fusion Drive to be something you buy from them not a "homebrew" for lots less money.

Seems strange that this does not appear to have been included, unless I'm missing something.
