How to update your iPad without deleting anything?

I now updated my iTunes on the computer to version 5.0.1. Now i want to update my iPad to new software.
Right now my version is 4.3.3 and i want to update it. It says if i update it all apps, music files and purchased iTunes things will be deleted !
okay, hold up ! NOOOO ! i bought like 3 iTunes gift cards adding up to $150 and i pretty much wasted it all !
there is no way in the world i'm going to waste that much! and if i delete my apps, i play sims free play and i bought simoleons. i play temple run,
i got 7 million and unlocked everything !! i saved all the pics off glee and stuff.
Can someone specificly tell me how this can be prevented. I try puttng them in folders but they won't transfer.
I really need the new software, my iPad is laggy at times and it exits to the home screen when i press some things..
PLEASE HELP!

I assume you have been using this computer to sync your ipad before.  Right?  So don't worry.
When you connect your ipad to your computer, the first thing you will see in iTunes is, it is doing a backup.  This backup will backup all your stuff from your ipad including, Apps, music, photos, videos, emails, data, configurations, settings etc etc.
You can double check your backup file after the sync is completed.  Go to iTunes menu, Edit, Preference.  Click on the Device tab which will list number of backups with dates including your last backup with date & Time.
After you have competed the update, Itunes will wipe out everything from your iPad and ask you whether you want to setup as a new device or Restore from Backup.  Choose Restore from backup and make sure you select the last correct backup (check date & time).  Everything will be going back to your iPad with the new IOS.

in iPad to Delete a photo or video: Tap trash icon. If you don’t see trash icon, tap the screen to display the controls.
If they were added from your computer, you need to Sync and uncheck them and then sync again...

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.

  • HT1414 is it possible to update your ipad without backing it up or transferring purchases when using another computer

Is it possible to update your ipad 2 to the latest software without backing it up or transferring purchases to another computer other then your own?

What iOS version are you on ? If 5+ then as I said, you can do it directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you are on iOS 4 then you will need to connect to your computer's iTunes and transfer purchases and do a backup - updating to iOS 5+ from 4 or below will backup up the iPad, wipe the iPad, install iOS 5.1, and restore your backup and iTunes media content (if you don't transfer purchases and backup then that content will no longer be on the iPad after the update). How To reset iPad without having it synced to a computer and not knowing the password????  I changed my password and have forgotten it is there any way I can access and get on it??? Thanks

You must use a computer. There is no way around it for you.
You have to restore the device within iTunes. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad. You will have to download all of your purchased content again after you unlock the device.
You will have to use recovery mode

  • How to update my ipod without deleting the old files?

i have 2 pc and different songs on them..but whenever i want to update my ipod from the second one ..it keeps telling that my ipod is linked to another itune and uploading will delete the old file..would someone tell me how to go around it?..thanks
      Windows XP Pro

Connect your iPod and when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual as per the link below.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually

  • How do I upload photos from my PC to my ipad without deleting the photos already on my ipad?

How do I upload photos from my PC to my ipad without deleting the photos already on my ipad???

The iTUnes sync syncs the contents of a folder you choose. ANd it handles only one folder at a time.
What I did to keep things straight, was to make a separate folder inside the 'my photos' part of my computer. Then put in that folder copies of things I wanted on my iPad. I could then add/remove from that folder as the mood struck and since everything in there was a copy I wouldn't lose any. (you would add/remove from the folder, then do a sync to allow iTunes to update that folder on  your iPad to match the folder on your PC)
Another way, to get away from maintaining a folder, if you don't have a ton of photos, just e-mail them to yourself, save them from that e-mail. Keep them on the iPad as long as you like, then you can delete them as you wish. Photos that are synced onto the iPad must be synced off (as in removed from that folder then a sync performed to remove them)
E-mailing the photos to yourself gives you more flexibility in managing them on the iPad.

  • How can i take the pictures from my old ipod and transfer them onto my computer without deleting anything

How can I take the pics from my old ipod and transfer them onto my computer without deleting anything?

Pictures on an iPod are stored in a special format, optimized for the iPod's small lower resolution screen, to save storage space.  iTunes puts them into that format when syncing.  There is setting in iTunes, on the iPod's Photos screen (where you set up syncing of photos) for Include full resolution photos.  If that checkbox was checked when you synced the photos to the iPod, THEN you can Enable disk use and find those photo files on the iPod in the Photos folder.
Otherwise, you cannot get your photos back, using iTunes.  There may be third-party utilities that can extract individual photos from the iPod, but they will still be lower-resolution versions of the original photo.

  • How to add files ( music, movies, ibooks) from itunes to your idevice without deleting the exicting files on the idevice??

I have tried to add ibooks to my iphone 5 and I was successful. But when I tried to import the same ibooks from itunes to my ipad 2. It showed up a messege asking me if I wanted to delete the exicting files on my ipad in order to add ibooks? How can I add ibooks without deleting everything on my ipad 2?

Those songs that were purchased from iTunes will be available to redownload from Itunes for free. They are still available after you delete them from your phone.
Any that you did not purchase from iTunes, you can either use iTunes Match, otherwise you will loose these songs.

  • HT1296 how to add new photos without deleting the existing photos in ipad

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to add new photos/PDF books from my PC to iPad without deleting the exsting data in iPad?

    Hello AJ2349
If it is prompting you that it will replace the data on your iPhone, then that is typically the result of syncing with a different computer. The only way you can bypass that is to replace the media on your device and then sync. Now it will only replace items that would be considered purchased items like music, movies, TV shows and Apps and would not delete any pictures from your iPhone. Alternatively you can setup a Shared Photo Stream and then add the Photos there without syncing your iPhone with your computer. Check out the articles below for more information.

  • How can I add photos from my mac to my ipad without deleting the photos on my ipad, How can I add photos from my mac to my ipad without deleting the photos on my iPad, How can I add photos from my mac to my ipad without deleting the photos on my iPad

I have photos on my Ipad that I copied from my PC (that I am selling) & now want to add my photos from my Mac to keep them all in one place.  When I try to sync it says it will delete the photos on my Ipad unless they were taken with the Ipad.  How can I just add what is on my Mac to my Ipad without deleting what is on my Ipad?

"OK, so how do I transfer images to my computer? "
This has been answered.  The sync is one way - computer to ipad.  You can e-mail them to yourself.
" Whenever I connect the iPad to my Mac I get a message telling me that all the photos on the iPad will be replaced. Why?"
This is the design of the product.  It will sycn with one computer.  Sycning to anotehr will erase hte current content.  The ipad simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
"When I connect my mp3 player to my PC, at home, I can find the player in Explorer and edit the contents, move or delete files, add files from my computer etc. All under my controll, simple and easy."
OK.  This is not the case with the  ipad.  It is not designed as a storage device.

  • I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account and will sync, but delete everything from my phone. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

Iphone will sync with one and only one cpomptuer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.  This is the design of the  iphone.
It will erase the content when you sync.
Why not update from the comptuer with which you normally sync?
