How to upgrade a previously bought macbook pro?
I want to upgrade my hard drive/processor/memory.
My current specs are:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
I wanted to upgrade to the 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 8gb or RAM for memory, 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm.
How would i go about doing this? Would apple do it for me?
Essentially, I want a new laptop, without changing its shell--just changing the internal components. Is this even possible? Please help. Thanks

Given that others have pointed out you cannot do exactly what you would like, If you did decide that you wanted to upgrade to a new MBP, you might consider using "Get an Apple Gift Card for the value of your old computer." (http://www.apple.com/recycling/computer/).
You would have to run through the process yourself, but I ran through the process with an example here:
Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz 15" (Unibody) (MB471LL/A)
Estimate provided by PowerON: $924.21
FREE shipping - yes
FREE packaging - yes
* Intel Processor
* Aluminum casing
* Bluetooth
* Airport
* Does its internal hardware function properly? - Yes
* What is the display's condition? - Excellent
* The item has a working battery. - Yes
* Does it start up successfully? - Yes
* What is the cosmetic condition? - Excellent
* I have -
o Removed all passwords
o Supplied the power adapter
o Included the operating system disk
I don't know how you feel about the $924.21 for this example, but it might be something to consider if you wanted to offset price of a new MBP.

How to Upgrade Hard Drive in MacBook Pro?
I made the mistake of getting only the 90G HD is a MBP purchased in Feb 2008. The manual does not have info on upgrading the HD and I suspect doing so myself may void the Apple Care warranty.
Will the Apple Store do this upgrade for me and in a manner that would not void the warranty?
Thanks,
MarcantonioTHe MacBook Pro you are speaking of has a hard drive that is not user replaceable. Meaning, it would void the AppleCare. With that said, any Apple Certified Support Center can service your MacBook Pro without voiding the warranty, this includes retail Apple Stores.

I bought my macbook pro in march 2007. I am currently running osx 10.6.8, but want to upgrade to lion or mtn lion. Apple website says i need a mid 2007 or later macbook pro, how do I tell if my Macbook pro will support this upgrade?
The Mid-2007 model didn't come out until June 2007, so you must have bought an earlier model. It won't run Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x), but it might run Lion (10.7.x) if you can get hold of a copy, depending on which earlier model it is.
Lion requires at least a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The first MacBook Pros came out in January 2006, but they had "Core Duo" processors (no "2"). The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros came out in October 2006. You could have bought either in March 2007. -
After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro now requires me to enter a password whenever I start up my computer. I want to eliminate this step and to go back to the ability to reboot and begin using without a login. How do I accomplish this?
Hightlight Login Option. This will bring up the window showing Automatic login.
Please post a pic of your window if Automatic login is missing. Make sure your personal info is not showing. -
how do i reset my mac completely? I have parental controls and cant seem to get to time machine cause i bought the computer with parental controls on it and they did not have the password. How do i completely reset my macbook pro?
If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps on this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps on this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570 -

Bought macBook Pro a year ago and it came with Quicktime Player. Just bought Quicktime Pro and am having trouble downloading it. Do I need it? How do I download it?
You don't download QuickTime Pro directly; you download QuickTime 7 and apply the code you bought to it.

Hi, I have bought macbook pro a year back and it has 4 GB RAM and its mid 2012 model can u tell me whether if i give the macbook for upgradation of memory will they do it and what would be the cost.
You need to take your MacBook Pro to your Apple store genius bar and check that they will do the upgrade for you...price for 4 GB memory used to be $200 but you will have to check with them for the current cost.
You can also check with OWC, http://www.macsales.com and see what their cost is and decide if you want to do it yourself. Cost will be about half of that at the Apple store. -
I just bought macbook pro with 10.8.3 os. When i start the system, all applications automatically start up as well! How can I turn them off. I checked the user settings and no application is set tom open automatically!
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked. Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out. Let Apple deal w/the problems. -
I have bought macbook pro with Retina display on 7th January. But its price was reduced and its cpu was upgraded to 2.6Ghz in February. Can I return it and get my money back?
You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it.

Bought macbook pro online how to register
I bought macbook pro from online and i was wondering is there any special steps i need to take to transfer it under my name from the previous owner for warranty purpose (for whatever is left+if i go for little more)
Thanks
CBThe warranty on the machine is linked in Apple's database to its serial number, not to the owner's name. To verify that it is still covered and learn when the coverage expires, enter its serial number on this page:
