How to upgrade from HDD to SSD in Mid 2010 13inch MacbookPro?

I am upgrading from HDD to SSD and would like the step by step direction of how to do it on my 13inch MacBookPro mid 2010. Also, I would like to do a clean install of the OS onto the new SSD, and simply transfer my data(i.e. documents, pictures) from the old HDD to the new SSD(Samsung 500GB)
Any detailed directions would be appreciated. You may send responses directly to my address: ******* Thanks in advance

Turn the Mac on (or reboot it) and press command-option-R as soon as you hear the startup chime. Hold the keys down until you see a globe, then release. When the Recovery Menu appears you choose Disk Utility and format the SSD for use in a Mac (Erase>Set Format to MacOS Extended (Journaled), then exit Disk Utility and choose Install OSX
You will need to be connected to the Internet and your Mac should detect your network and ask for a password automatically when Recovery Starts.

  • How to upgrade from HDD to SSD

    Hi All,
I am thinking of upgrading my HDD to a SSD, but I  dont know how exactly to transfer OS, settings, my own files etc. onto new SSD?
Can someone please brake the whole process into simple step-by-step guide?
    Thanks in advance,
    Max

Not really - but here is a user tip on using Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to your new SSD.
All you really need to do is buy a $20 or so enclosure - I'd recommend OWC - for one of the drives and then clone your existing hard drive to your new SSD, after you format the SSD as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition.
You can go either way - install the SSD first and then boot from your old drive in the enclosure, use Disk Utility to format the SSD and then use CCC to clone your data from the old drive to the new. Or put the SSD into the enclosure first (I like the first way better).
Oh, and there are 100's of videos on YouTube (just make sure that you search for your specific model MBP).

  • Upgraded to 10, How to move from HDD to SSD? (Y-Series Laptop)

Howdy all, I have a Lenovo Y Series Laptop that came with a combo HDD/SSD. I assumed that Windows would be installed on the SSD, leaving the HDD for everything else. Turns out this isn't the case. The SSD is currently at 22.6g free of 24.9, and I'm honestly not sure if it's a totally separate drive, or if it's integrated into the HDD somehow.. I am trying to figure out how to move windows onto the SSD potion of the hard drive, but just want to make sure I'm not forgetting something. I assume I'll have to:Backup any files I want to keep (there are none, just applications I can get again after)Make a Windows 10 Boot Drive on a USBReformat SSDBoot from the USBPerform clean install of Windows 10 on SSD(possible step here of backing up lenovo software?)Reformat HDDRe-install all apps + programsAre there any Particular things that I need to make sure of for Windows 10?Am I forgetting anything? Is this a terrible idea?Is this totally not how my particular hard drive works? Is there a waaaay easier way to do this without possibly destroying everything? Lastly I want to make sure that the Lenovo software stays on the laptop, I assume it'll all go bye-bye if I do a clean install. I tried this once years ago and ended up making the Fn keys stop working, the fan and temperature control goofy, and I think it may even have been haunted.. Any advice or known disastrous things to avoid would be super helpful.

    hi Trosh,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Using the parts lookup page to check the hard drive specs on models 80FA002CUS and 80FA002DUS, those machines are configured with an SSHD (1TB HDD with a built-in 8GB SSD cache).
The 22.6 GB free of 24.9 GB that you're seing is likely the D:\  drive, which is a partition of the 1TB HDD (you can verify this by opening up Disk Management)
As for upgrading to Windows 10:
    1. Ensure that you have a backup copy of your files before upgrading and create a recovery drive just in case.
    2. Before you can clean install Windows 10, you will need to upgrade your current installation (e.g., Windows 8.1) first to Windows 10 and activate. Once this is done, you can proceed in doing a clean install. If you proceed in doing a clean install on first attempt, you may not be able to activate Windows.
You can read more in this article:
How to Activate and resolve common Product key issues in Windows 10
Note that doing a clean install will definitely remove all preloaded apps and drivers, thus, you will need to reinstall them back (some proprietary preloaded apps though doesn't have an Installer due to license limitation)
    3. After upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, some preloaded apps and drivers may have limited functionality or may not work at all. Thus, you will need to update to the latest Windows 10 drivers (if available).
    More info here:
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611
    4. In case you get issues with the upgrade, you can always refresh Windows 10 or go back to the previous Windows build or by doing a system recovery then re-upgrade.
     - Refresh Windows 10
     - Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Win1dows
     - Link to picture (select System Recovery)
    5. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade (e.g., 256GB or 500GB), you will need to migrate the OS from the SSHD to the SSD and upgrade to Windows 10. If you have already originally upgraded though on the stock drive, you can clean install Windows on the new SSD.
More info before upgrading to Windows 10:
    Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation
Hope the info above answers your questions.

  • How to upgrade Sata Hdd to SSD on Mac Book Pro 13"?

I have a Mac book Pro 13" and I want to upgrade my Harddrive to SSD. Also want to know how to do cloning, so that no data loss will be there.
    Regards
    Sid J

what you do is first put the the SSD in an external enclosure and hook it up to your mac.  Then, open disc utility in your utilities folder.  Erase the new SSD and reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Then, run the cloning program and it will make a mirror image of the HDD currently inside your mac to the new SSD in the external enclosure.  Then, remove the SSD from the external enclosure and put in it your mac.  All done!  .  If you are unfamiliar with an external enclosure, they are very inexpensive..here is one I own: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817106115. Any further questions you my have either now or during the process, don't hesitate to ask, I have done this process a handful of times and it is very easy even for the non-techie.

  • Upgrading from HDD to SSD

I received a HP 2000 2b43dx laptop as a gift. I increased the ram from 4GB to 8GB but that did not help the performance very much. I realize that the performance is limited mostly by the cpu which is AMD E-300 running at 1.3 MHZ.  I don't think it is possible to easily upgrade the cpu so I would like to replace the 320GB 5400 rpm HDD with a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD. It looks like Samsung data migration software should work ok for cloning the existing HDD (except it does not carry over the OEM recovery partition).  I made a USB copy of the recovery partition and since I have recently upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1 I hope I never have to go back to square 1 with the recovery partition.
First limitation for the upgrade is that I have SATA II instead of SATA III but that is not supposed to be a major limitation.  Second limitation is that apparently HP consumer laptops such as mine have a locked BIOS so it is not possible to activate AHCI through the BIOS. Also device manager only displays AMD SATA controller and no AHCI SATA controller.  I was hoping that this would not be a major problem because supposedly the Samsung Magician SSD management software allows to you to manually manage the SSD performance.  BUT when I read the user manual for Samsung Magician:
The Magician manual (page 5) states that it does not work with AMD chipsets with AMD drivers which my model has.  This is a major limiting factor because use of the magician software is critical for making sure the SSD is working correctly.  Is it possible to switch from AMD drivers to Microsoft or Nvidia drivers so I can use the Samsung Magician software?  Any references to sources and methods would be appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Don't overthink it. The BIOS is set to ahci by default and invisibly. Windows 8 and 8.1 manage SSDs natively so there is nothing you really need to do. Clone the old drive to the new and go. The only thing to be careful about when you are cloing is not to shrink the sytem reserved partitions. If you do that things like Windows Backup, which use the system reserved partition, will no longer function and if the system partitions are shrunk too much the system will fail to boot. That can be repaired with a repair disk but it is a pain you want to avoid. So use a manual clone option and keep all but the main C:\ partition the same size.

  • How to upgrade My Mac Book Pro 15" Mid 2010 from Ram 8go to 16go to use for Final cut pro ?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) 2,66 GHz Intel Core i7 with graphic card NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 Mo and would like to know if its possible to upgrade my Ram from 8 to 16 Go to work more faster with final cut ... Thanks for your feed back

    scrutinizer82 wrote:
So, you do recognize that one can upgrade MBP RAM past 8 GB? It means Niel was incorrect.
Only for certain models will that apply.  Niel gave a correct answer.  Note that tofaustral has a 2010 MBP, I have both a 2010 and 2011 MBPs.  The former is limited to 8 GB RAM and the latter can accept 16 GB RAM.  In both cases, Apple specifications state that 8 GB is the maximum.
if technically it's possible to have 16 GB of RAM will it affect performance positively (speed up), that is, without excessive amount of unused RAM? Did you feel improvement after installing 16 GB?
RAM does not speed up a computer.  It will allow for more applications to be run simultaneously and will allow the computer to run more efficiently when a resource intensive application requires more RAM than might otherwise be available.  If an application requires to run efficiently with 2 GB RAM, there will be no difference in performance if the computer has 4 GB RAM installed or 16 GB installed.  A resource intensive application will run more efficiently if it requires more than 8 GB RAM on a computer with 16 GB RAM installed as opposed to one with just 8 GB RAM.   RAM not used has no affect in performance.
Furthermore, what about Apple's warranty in this case? Will it be automatically terminated?
If the user manual has instructions for installing RAM, then doing so will not void the warranty unless you damage the computer in the process.
    Ciao.

  • Does anyone know how to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 ios?

After being tricked by the fast talking smoothy helper at Apple store in London to buy a micky mouse ipodtouch (fourth generation) two years ago I am stuck at ios 4.1 and find that all the useful applications need 4.3 or more. So I went to the trouble of letting the macbook stay open all night to load yet another micky mouse version of itunes so that I can upload the more recent version of ios and now (since I don't want to continually have a lot of rubbish on the ipod I disabled the automatic sync "feature") I can only go round in circles  whereby the only real possibility left is to turn on the autosync feature. I have had messages like "your ipod will be completely erased if you proceed" and "do you wish to fiddle another few days with this nasty system, then click on continue" and so on.
Does anyone know how to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 ios?
That would be great (maybe) because otherwise I will toss this children's waste product on the floor and set up my HD camera to show how easy it is to smash the brightly lit screen into pieces and relieve myself of trash which Apple sell to unsuspecting gullible humans who believe that they are not being tricked by such a nice company who produce shiny colourful gadgets which only work for a month or two before becoming 100% obsolete.
Great to hear from those who have wasted many months of their lives and discovered how to trick the system into doing a simple update operation!
I am insulted by the tricks that fool many and that apple pretend are "necessary".

Illaass, your help is amazing - miles better than anyone working in this part of the world who is paid - and you do this for free - because, like me, you LOVE to help people!
BUT, as I said above -
    1. There is nothing "mobile" under Application Support. For whatever reason.
    2. Devious - that Apple has set up iPod to not show in Finder - a red herring and sign that corruption is visible.
I will try iFunBox next and it sounds like they provide this for the more serious users but use a trivial name to excuse further strangeness.
    After
There are purchased items on the iPod that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating the iPod. Are you sure you want to continue?
    I get
Updating to iOS 6.1.5 will backup and restore the apps, media, contacts, notes, and settings on your iPod touch.
Please do not interrupt the update, which may take an hour or longer to complete.
    Cancel          Update
And then I wait for hours to arrive at the above mentioned
    Backing up iPod   \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Stop
    and then as above
An error occurred while backing up this iPod (0xE8000084). Would you like to continue to update this iPod?
Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod.
    Cancel                Continue
and so we are back to where we always land - the user is left in the Apple designed sabotage situation which annoyed me so much initially.
"Most users will give up at this point, loose all the data or buy yet another disposable from Apple. Less than 3% will work their way to this site and 90% of the 3% will leave the iPod to gather dust in the hope that someone will help later. In all, Apple gains, since people blame themselves for "mistakes" which Apple programmed to throw out users who do not take the 100% Apple path. But Illaass and myself still play the game of "trying to fix" something which Apple don't allow."  was the comment which I was going to write but decided against it, adding no value to the conversation other than explaining one reality which we all hoped could be wrong but which I thought to have a very high chance of being closer to the truth.
Apologies for my doubts towards the integrity of the creators.

Recheck: Under Application Support "mobilesync" folder has appeared (MobileMeSyncClient has also appeared [while again trying to update iPod] with zero size) - Good news, a Backup file is there, but it is only 3GB while my iPod has 32GB and is close to full (800MB free space).

The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).
    More Infomation    OK
So it looks like I may have lost all the important pictures documenting various items all around Europe for the last two years - luckily I moved a year ago from the iPod toy camera to a Panasonic real camera with SD card which can be read on any computer. Hence important items lost may only be older than one year rather than the most recent items.
Glad I have changed to Panasonic since they don't try to screw you when you don't use their system.
I will now check the "more information" rather than just click on "OK" since I am of the 3% who "don't accept cr*p".
For full information I quote that the iPod now shows a screen with a USB ikon, an upward arrow and an iTunes ikon (all micky mouse language which reduces transparant, clear and technical discussion and thus covers the trail of "where things went wrong").
The iPod is still attached to the computer but the above MMTALK may mean that the iPod should be attached via USB to the mac. I record much of this activity on Video to be able to later prove EXACTLY what occurred, rather than having to rely on screenshots and opinions. We are after all dealing with important items which may later be required to be shown in court, as evidence against fraudsters.
The "More Information" link leads to
Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes
which I have already seen before.
I clicked on OK and a help screen (unnamed as ever because no one like myself demanded that the help screens be named for later discussion) arrived:

while copying this into this message the computer began to start up Final Cut Pro and this was cancelled, then iTunes came up with a message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
    ok
And I presume the earlier message about helping Apple is gone because I keep getting interrupted by this message called
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
    ok
it has appeared now at least six times interferring with anything else I do. Each time I try to write, this message appears and blocks, but only when I write. I tried to do a carriage return and the message appeared taking the carriage return as acceptance of the OK in the
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
    ok
Message. But since I have not removed the USB and keep returning to this message I am able to write for a few seconds (now 30 seconds or more) and the message remains on the screen but not blocking this conversation. It appears to be random but in fact as you can later see from the video, it is not reappearing each periodic number of seconds but as I reach a new comment.
I will try to close iTunes so that this can be stopped (I clicked on OK and it appeared another few times, each time I clicked on ok and now it has left me in peace to write here although iTunes is still not yet closed).
Difficult to log down all the strange behaviour but I think you can get the gist of what is going on.
    2014 01 12 12 49 27
Should I remove the iPod and stop iTunes? I have a nasty feeling turning to indifference since I have video footage which will verify all the above in a court of law if later required. The truth must always win over any devious attempts at forcing people to do things they don't want to ;-)

  • How to upgrade from 10.1.5 to 10.2?

Can anyone out there let me know how to upgrade from 10.1.5 to 10.2? I'm trying to use my new digital camera and I need a minimum of 10.2.
Please email me with the answer.
    Thanks!

Hi, Jen. An OS upgrade to any version higher than 10.1.5 will have to be purchased. After buying OS 10.2.x (Jaguar), 10.3.x (Panther), or 10.4.x (Tiger), you will then be able to apply free downloadable updaters to get you to 10.2.8, 10.3.9, or the current 10.4.5 — whatever is the end-stage evolution of the cat you bought.
For universal installers of Jaguar and Panther, which Apple no longer sells, try http://www.hardcoremac.com or http://www.apple-rescue.com. Tiger is available everywhere.

hi everyone:  I require some information on how to upgrade from 10.5.8 to make my mackbook pro compatable
with the iphone upgrade. Please note that I have gone thru the upgrades on this computer and it tells me there are
no new ones available...... I need to get my upgrade past the 11.5.1 level.....so do I need to purchase a new
upgrade program....and if so which one...as I have been thru the apple store and so far as i can tell
the ones that are listed such as maverik, lion and snow lepard are not high enough.
To anyone who replies, thankyou so much for taking the time to help me.  It is truely appreciated.

11.1.5 is likely to be the version of iTunes you are being asked to run, not the version of Mac OS X.
To get a higher version of iTunes, you likely have to upgrade Mac OS X. All Roads lead through the 10.6 Upgrade, available as a physical DVD only, from the Apple Online store for about US$20:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
This is one of the most benign Upgrades Apple has ever issued. The size of the Operating System gets smaller, performance is slightly faster, and very few Applications are left behind. If you have some older PowerPC Applications, you may need to ask to install the Optional Rosetta emulator for PowerPC code when you install.
Once your 10.6 install is fully Updated to 10.6.8 using Software Update, the Mac App Store will appear, and future upgrades (if needed) will be handled through variations of online purchases.

  • How to upgrade from os x 10.6.8 to Lion os 10.7.2

How to upgrade from os x 10.6.8 to Lion os 10.7.2?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
Unless you previously got an installer for Mac OS X 10.7 through 10.7.2, you can only upgrade to a newer version.

                      OR
You do not need Netweaver 7.2 CE for using NWBC 3.0. You just need netweaver 7.02.
You simply need to apply enhancement package 2 on your existing 7.01 system to make it 7.02.
