It is sad that I have upgrade my Mac from 10.4.11 Tiger G4 PPC now I have to upgrade them again since most plug-in are outdated and could not use my mac properly.
Do I just buy the Snow Leopard CD and install this my Mac PPC ? Then after it will be Intel mac not PPC anymore?
Wow, you have had that puppy for a long time. Apple hasn't made PPC machines since early 2006. Realistically, you would benefit greatly by upgrading as the performance difference will be gigantic.
Supporting the PC's are a bit easier as those users update hardware about every 2 years. It is almost a requirement for PCs as the things won't run anything worthwhile after the release of a subsecquent version of Windows.
Your Mac has had a good run and lasted a long time.
Not sure if a Commodor is exactly what you need, but there is a new Mac Pro awaiting it's debut.

If your Mac is running Leopard (10.5.x) then in order to upgrade further, you need to call Apple and purchase an upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.x). I have not verified this myself, but I have been told that you can only purchase this by calling Apple, and it will cost about $20 USD.
Once you have Snow Leopard, you will need to verify if you really want to upgrade further. By going to any newer OS, you will lose the ability to run any older PowerPC based software, as the newer releases of Mac OS do not include ROSETTA, which is needed to continue to run those applications. Also, if your hardware has Leopard, it may not support any of the newer Mac OS releases, so you would want to verify that as well.
After you have installed Snow Leopard, and then updated it to the latest (10.6.8) you can use the Mac App Store to purchase newer OS releases. For right now, you can Buy Mountain Lion directly in the store. If your hardware can't support Mountain Lion, but you still want ot upgrade to Lion, you will need to place another call to Apple to purchase an upgrade code to Lion. With that upgrade code, you can redeem it in the App Store to download the Lion installer. -

I continue to get crashes from my Mac Laptop Maverick. I was running Snow leopard without any hassles and have now upgraded to Maverick. I get continued crashes, on start up or if I am running a program like GoPro to edit video or Firefox. What to do?

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.

If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able download OS X 10.7 Luon from the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process by using the paid download code to Download and install OS X 10.7 Lion rom the Mac App Store.

Upgrading a 2007 mid 10.4.11 to snow leopard
I just installed 4 gig of memory into my 10.4.11 mid 2007 desktop MAC. I was hoping to install Snow Leopard and maybe later Lion. Is this possible or advisable? Where do I find the software on the Apple site? Can I upgrade the iLIFE to 2011?
Hi @sgrieshaber, this may be dated if you have already upgraded to Lion, but if you haven't here's my experience to help you decide if you really need Lion at this stage. And before I say that, I pre-qualify by saying I love Lion on my brand new mid-2011 MacBook Air. Particularly I really love gestures and new Mail! Really many of the new features of Lion are very neat.
That being said, upgrading my mid-2007 MacBook Pro (4GB RAM, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 15") was not necessary in my opinion (and would have probably saved me $180 for a repair that was required after damaging my hard drive, probably by 'stressing' it too much with the dual partitions required by Lion (but they two issues may not be linked so not making too much of a deal out of that). What I am going to say though is this: Do you really need Lion?
Firstly gestures requires an up to date trackpad to make full use of. Secondly AirDropdoesn't work on machines that are that old. I am not an iWork user soVersions is not something that affects me a great deal. To boot, it now appears that Snow Leopard will support iCloud so what is the point of Lion on a pre-2008 MacBook Pro?
Besides, as you are not a fast adopter of new operating systems (seeing your machine is on 10.4.11), I would say that's another pointer that you don't need (and probably won't miss) having Lion.
You can get iLife 11 (which is excellent and really needed to get the best out of an iPhone if you have one) using Snow Leopard (as you have the App store with Snow Leopard) so no real need if you ask me. -
A few days ago, my HP printer software updated automatically, everything seemed fine (Mac is running Maverick, my laptop is Snow Leopard). Out of the blue yesterday, my printer stopped printing (neither Mac can connect), I have tried everything. Both the suggestion from HP and Apple, it's making me crazy I've spent most of time trying to fix it.

OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion systems will have the necessary printing software already installed, or will automatically download and install software when the printer is connected or configured. Do not install software that came with the printer as it may be out of date, and do not connect the printer to your Mac yet. Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack, install ink or toner, and insert paper. Finally, use the instructions in this article to connect the printer to your Mac.
Make sure the printer model is listed in Printer and scanner software, which is a comprehensive list of all printer models that have compatible software for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion.

Try to delete the print queue under Print & Fax / Print & Scan then manually add a print queue.

I want to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, then to Lion. When trying to back-up to a WD 1 TB external drive, the back-up process stalls at about 4 GB download. I would be very grateful for any clues to assist with the back-up process please.
That disk is very probably formated as FAT 32, the normal format for PCs. FAT 32 cannot support files larger than 4 GB; also, it corrupts some types of Mac OS files. If you want to securely backup your mac files, you must have a disk prepared for Mac OS.
Therefore, open Disk Utility, choose again 1 partition for your external disk and, under Options, GUID partition map (it may also be a boot disk for an intel mac), then format it as Mac OS Extended Journaled. Y0u are done.
If you want to exchange data with PCs, you should chose Master Boot REcord and NTFS format, for this you must use a additional utility like NTFS-3G. But note that mac files may also get corrupt in NTFS format. -
New Mac! Migrating issue from Tiger to Snow Leopard
I recently bought a new MacBook Pro 15" before I relocated overseas (because I couldn't live without a Mac while I waited for my iMac to be shipped abroad).
During the initial set-up, I used the migration assistant to transfer everything from my iMac (running 10.4) to the MacBook Pro (running 10.6). As expected, the transfer worked perfectly!
Actually, it worked a bit too perfectly because the MacBook Pro now seems to think it is called 'Geoffrey Sharpe's iMac G5'. To make matters worse, I am not yet able to connect to the internet from my apartment so I am writing this from the PC at work.
Is there an account setting somewhere that I will need to change?Geoff, how did you go about the migration? Did you simply connect the two Macs, open the MBP and follow the initial prompts to 'Migrate From Another Mac'?
Or did you use the Snow Leopard DVD and perform a "Restore System from Backup..."? If so, not necessarily a good idea when you are moving from one Mac to another. See the following:

Your initial Restore/Migration approach will determine which direction resolving this issue will take. So let us know by answering the questions above. The fact that it thinks it is your iMac points to the possibility that you performed a "Restore System from Backup..." and not a simply migration of your user data and apps.
