How to upgrade my aperture trial?

I've installed a trial copy of aperture and want to upgrade but the app store won't let me buy the application as it's already installed. I don't want to uninstall and lose the pics that I've uploaded and modofied on the trial version. What do I do?

Hello,
To buy the full version from  the App Store you need to delete  the Trial version "Aperture.app"  from the Applications Folder. Don't worry, this will not delete your Aperture Library. Your Aperture Library contains your imported images, not the Aperture Application. If you did not set up anything special, your Aperture Library is probably located in the default  inside your "Pictures" folder and called "Aperture Library.aplibrary". You may want to make a backup of this library, before you upgrade to the full the version.

  • How do you upgrade from Aperture trial version?

I have the Aperture trial version. When I open it, I get an option to buy it....and I have just three days left on my trial.
So I click BUY - and everything flakes out. It opens a window or two, along with Safari, with a URL that doesn't work - http://www.itunes.com/mac/aperture
One of the popups displays the price. When I click it, it says I can't buy it because it's already installed on my computer. I don't have a clue what's going on.
    Thanks for any tips.

To buy Aperture you get the best deal from the App Store, not the Apple Store. The Trial Version has been discontinued. To be able to download from the App Store you have remove the Trial Version from the Applications Folder, but keep your Aperture Library and all the presets in your User Library. Then you should be able download Aperture from the App Store.
What is your OS version? You will need 10.6.8 or 10.7.3.

  • How do I remove Aperture trial and go back to iPhoto (be kind, I'm new).

How do I remove the Aperture trial and go back to iPhoto.  For my usage (just iPhone pics/movies) iPhoto is okay for me, but now I cannot figure out how to remove Aperture, when I drag to Trash I get a warning that Aperture is a system file.
Please help, but also, please go slow if you can help, I am new to my Mac.

Should be pretty easy as follows:
1 - Make sure you have copies of any pictures you want that are inside Aperture somewhere on your computer.
2 - Quit Aperture > Remove any Aperture icon from dock > drag the Aperture program (lens icon) from Applications folder to the Trash > proceed through any warning dialog (including entering password as required) to complete the process.
Note - new security features in OS X Lion may present those warning dialogs to prevent accidental deletion of Apple programs.
3 - Hold down the 'Option' key and use the 'Go' menu in menu bar and select the 'Library' option.
4 - In the Library folder, open the 'Application Support' folder and delete any Aperture folder found.
5 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Preferences' folder and delete both the 'com.apple.Aperture.plist' and 'com.apple.Aperture.plist.lockfile' file.
6 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Caches' folder and delete the 'com.apple.Aperture' folder.
7 - Go the your 'Pictures' folder and drag the 'Aperture Library' (may be named Aperture Trial Library or similar) to the Trash to delete it as well.
8 - Empty the Finder Trash to remove Aperture.
Note - there are some files and Aperture folders in the '/Library' folder (which is in the root of your system drive), but you don't really need to remove those. Since you are a beginner, it is probably better not to for now.
    That should do it.
Additional edit: There are two Library folders I am referring to. The first is the one in your user account 'Home' folder which is the one you are going to by using the 'Go' menu. This is the one you are deleting files from in the steps listed. The second Library folder is the one in the root of your system drive and is not typically a location for beginners to work with (thus the final note above). Hope that is clear enough.

  • How to upgrade an expired trial to a paid subscription?

    Hi,
I have an Azure trial subscription that expired. Now I would like to upgrade the free trial to a pay as you go subscription. I do not want to create a new subscription as I have already created multiple VMs under the trial version and would like to continue
to use them, unless they will still be available under the new subscription.
When I went to account.windowsazure.com/Subscriptions, the only option I have there is "You have no active subscriptions. Click add subscription to obtain one".  Although this is not what I want to do, I clicked
on add a new subscription, and went through the steps, at the end I got a message to contact support because of my payment method. I am using a company American Express card that is valid.
    My questions are:
    1. How to upgrade my trial to a paid subscription?
    2. If my only option is to create a new subscription, who do I troubleshoot the payment issue, and will my existing VMs continue to be available under the new subscription?
    Thanks.

  • How does upgrade for aperture work if use the trial to download?

I have a new macbook pro. I have installed my Aperture 2.X on it. Can I download the trial and when I purchase get the "upgrade" price? If so, how does that work. Do I type in my 2.x serial number at some point?
Or, if I purchase the Aperture disk, how does the upgrade work then?

In either case, with AP 2.x installed, the AP 3 upgrade installer should see that and only require entry of the upgrade serial number.
If doing a clean install with AP 2 not installed, you enter the AP 3 upgrade serial number and will get a second serial number field pop-up asking for a full version serial number (you would enter the AP 2 serial number at this point).
Assuming nothing is amiss with your system, that should do it.

  • How to upgrade to aperture 3.5 when the app store does not show the update. I did buy aperture 3 on DVD not thru the app store. what to do?

I can not open aperture databases anymore as osx10.9 keeps telling me i have opened it with a newer version, which i have not but i understand from other discussions that thru the upgrade of iphoto osx automatically thinks that you have opened with aperture 3.5. the app store does not show me the update as i have not purchased the program thru the app store but on dvd. what to do?

If you are running MacOS X 10.9 and Aperture is installed in your Applications folder and simply called Aperture, not Apertre 3 or something, the AppStore should be showing you the update.
Have you already updated to Aperture 3.4.5 from the Support page  Aperture 3.4.5?
Try to update manually to 3.4.5 and then reboot and sign again into the AppStore with your AppleID and look at the Update page.
For some forum members it helped to set the main system language to English U.S. to make the update finally show.

  • How do I purchase Aperture once the Trial software is installed?

I installed the Trial Version of Aperture 3, moved over just a few photos, liked it, moved over all of my photos and really liked it (once everything settled down).
So, I now have three libraries and I'm going through the Faces part, getting all my photos in order. I figure it's time to go ahead and pay for the software, since it looks like a keeper.
So, the next time I open Aperture 3, I click on the Buy button. It takes me to the App Store / Aperture 3 window. Up in the corner is the $79.99 price, so I click on that, and then and then I click on Buy App. An error box pops up, "We could no complete your purchase. Aperture is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
    Huh.
Just in case they aren't kidding, I close that error window, close the App Store, and then click on the Software update... menu option. After running for a few minutes, it comes back and tells me that my software is up to date.
So, now I'm a little concerned. Please tell me there's a way to upgrade my Aperture 3 trial without losing all of the work I just put in. Any thoughts?

That nailed it. I was worried about losing the work I had put in, but that was a non-issue.
After deleting Aperture from the Applications folder, I purchased, downloaded and installed from the App Store. When I opened Aperture, it found all of the Libraries that I had created. Woo-hoo!!!
Thank you for the quck reply, leonieDF. You rock!!!

  • How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?

How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?
My home network is used both by my macbook and my wife's windows pc. Considering that, I would like to know if we can share our pictures with each other (specially because I intend to store all of them into a NAS storage - WD My Cloud, probably).

No you can not - neither iPhoto nor Aperture has any cross platform capability
You can share photos with the PC using MyPhotoStream or Shared PhotoStreames
You can not share the iPhoto library
And you can not put the iPHoto library on a NAS - it MUST always be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and mube on a fast wired local connection - it can not be on a Network
There are Digital Asset Managers that can do what you want - iPhoto and Aperture can not

  • Aperture Trial - 1.5.1 Upgrade Breaks It?

Ok, so I was really pumped to see the Aperture trial and the D80 support today since I was waiting on the D80 before I bought Aperture. And the trial was just gravy!
So, I installed the trial, loaded it up and entered the trial serial number. Everything fine. Then, SW Update tells me I have an update to 1.5.1 for Aperture. So, of course I installed it and now the trial serial number is not valid and it continually asks me for a proper serial number. I am removing and reinstalling now, but at least in my case I would suggest that any trial users not upgrade to 1.5.1.
    Any one else seeing this?

    Same here.
I was hitting some issues with the demo, and was pleased to see that the update was supposed to fix them so I could give it a fair trial.
But on first launch after installing the update, I was asked for a serial number; I entered the one I was emailed with the demo and got a dialog box reading "You have entered an upgrade serial number. Please enter your original serial number." Without this missing number, the app won't launch.
Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted. But I don't want to reinstall v1.5 because if I demo it for my boss (which would be required to get the purchase approved) he would notice the problems and question my recommendation. Judging from the list of fixes, v1.5.1 would resolve many of those problems, but I can't run it.
    Any suggestions? Thanks...

  • How to upgrade Aperture with insufficient disk space

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade to the latest version of Aperture (from 3.4.3 to 3.4.4). I downloaded the update from the App Store but now whenever I try to launch Aperture it says that there is insufficient space on the library volume to perform the upgrade. The library is on a 3Tb external hard drive which only has 5Gb free. I have a lot of photos that I would be happy to delete but now I can't get in to delete them. If I select Cancel Upgrade then Aperture doesn't launch. I did briefly select Continue and Aperture started the upgrade but I Forced Quit from that as I assume it would eventually have crashed anyway.
Is there any way I can get in, using either the old or new version, to just go through and delete some images to free up the required space? Otherwise, is the only option for me to buy an even bigger external drive and manually copy the library file over to that?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Robert

    Robert,
I am just worried about what might happen, if our internal SSD should fail. The system files, your user settings, mail boxes, everything in your user library and system library, the installed applications, plug-ins, Aperture presets, etc. From what you are describing, you are taking good care of your documents, but the system itself and the work you are putting into configuring it is not backed up. Should your system drive crash you would have a hard time to recover from that.
The easiest way to backup your system drive and the internal HD2 would be to use one of your 3TB drives with Time Machine. You need not necessarily Time Capsule to be able to do that. Time Machine can work with any external disk, that is formatted MacOS X extended.
Just plug in the backup drive you want to use, then open "System Preferences" and click the Time Machine icon.
Click the "Select Backup Disk" button.
Enable "Show Time Machine in Menu Bar".
Click the "Options" Button. If your backup drive is not large enough to include your Aperture library, deselect the other external drives in the "Options" panel. You may even deselect the second internal drive, if you are backing that up differently and only want to create a backup of the system. Then a small 500GB drive should suffice to get you started with system backups. But backing up both internal drives at once using TimeMachine would be much preferable.
Then set the switch to "on".
The first backup may take a very long time, but it will run in the background, so let it run.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating

    Léonie
BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

  • Upgrading from the Trial

    Hi
I have just upgraded from the Aperture 2 trial
I bought a disk and instead of installing it just used the serial number to activate my trial
Its fne except from one annoying glitch
On Finder my Aperture Library is still called Aperture Trial Library
Its not going to kill me but I do find it annoying
Any offers on how to sort this, and even if it is ever likely to be a problem?
    Cheers

you can remove it (after getting images out of it), you can rename it ...
the trial version limited your library functionality by design ... but that is gone now and you can begin in earnest to create your "permanent" library ...
