How to Upgrade PPC Mini from 10.4 to 10.5

I have a G4 Mini with 10.4 (Tiger). A lot of software is starting to require 10.5 (including the iPad and iTunes 10) and I'd like to upgrade to 10.5. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells 10.5. They do sell 10.6, but that is Intel only!
So how do I upgrade to 10.5? I'd prefer to do it legally. but Apple is making that impossible.
Thanks,
Mitch

Before upgrading to 10.5, make sure you are ready to either give up on Classic, or partition or add a Firewire external hard drive to use Classic. Partitioning will allow you to keep Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Classic installed on your Mac, while having 10.5 installed. 10.5 does not support Classic. Also on PowerPC Macs, 10.5 does not support Boot Camp, if your intent in upgrading to 10.5 was to get Boot Camp, you need an Intel Mac.
Partitioning requires erasing your hard drive, or risking the erasure of your hard drive, so having a backup before partitioning is always recommended.
Furthermore, installing any new operating system software, follow these steps*:

  • Upgrading PPC Mini from Panther to Tiger... Worth it?

    Hi all
    I'm currently running a PPC Mini 1.4ghz 1gb memory with OS10.3.9.
Would this machine run the latest version of Tiger ok?
Is Tiger more efficient than Panther? Would I notice any speed increase/decrease?

Lots of thoughts at the moment, I'd appreciate your comments.
    Thanks, Lee

    Hi all
    I'm currently running a PPC Mini 1.4ghz 1gb memory
    with OS10.3.9.
Would this machine run the latest version of Tiger
    ok?
Yes, most certainly. I run Tiger on a G4 Mac bought in late 1999 - the mini you own is considerably more powerful, and will run Tiger just fine. It will not render 'core video' effects, but the only OS-based example of this is the inamous 'ripple effect' in Dashboard. Doesn't stop you adding widgets, they just don't show the ripple effect when dropped onto the desktop.
Is Tiger more efficient than Panther? Would I notice
    any speed increase/decrease?
Yes, Tiger is more efficient in terms of user interface code, so the user typically gets the sense of it running a little faster.
Should I wait until Leopard is available to upgrade
(if I can install on a PPC Mini)?
I would certainly expect Leopard to be compatible with PPC systems including the mini since even by next year, there will be considerably more PPC Macs in service than Intel models. For Apple (or indeed any developer) not to continue effective PPC support for a while yet would be economically disastrous.
As to whether you should wait.... well Panther is a great operating system in its own right, so there's no imperative to do so, but Tiger has a more rounded and complete feel to it, and of course is required for some applications like iLife 06. It also contains some very neat enhancements such as Dashboard - though much can be emulated in Panther with utilities.
In my view Tiger is worth it for the slightly better interface speed and general feel.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
    Next... MAVERICKS...
Check here to see if your Mac is compatible...
    http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
If so... would recommend at least 4GB of RAM... if not 8 GB
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
    See Here  >  OWC RAM  >  http://www.macsales.com
The above site also has videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...
Also... Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...
Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion.

  • HT6114 how to upgrade to Mavericks from Lion

Hi i would like to know exactly how to upgrade to Mavericks from lion.  I'm very comfused and have tried to find information about this but all I found was someone that asked if it was possible to do it and got the answer that it was in fact possible, but nobody said how to do it  -_-
    Please help
    Thanks in advance

Well, if your Mac meets the system requirements here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
simply go to the app store and download Mavericks or simply click on upgrade now on this page:

That's because Apple is no longer signing v3.1.3 nor any firmware other than iOS4.  You could try following a downgrade to v3.1.3, see these:

  • HT4561 how to upgrade operating system from 10.5.8 to mountain lion

How do upgrade my I MAC from MAC OS X ro Mountain lion?

To upgrade from OS X 10.5.8, you must first buy Snow Leopard by calling the phone number in the Apple Online Store: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US)
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
After you install Snow Leopard you can decide if you want to upgrade OS X to the latest version, Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store, which is available to you after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
Make sure your system meets the requirements for Mountain Lion:
Mac OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" System Requirements
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (RAM)
8 GB or more of available hard disk space
If your system does not support Mountain Lion's requirements, you may be able to upgrade to Lion. To do that you must call Apple again to order a download code. Redeem the download code in the App Store to download Lion. Lion costs 99¢ more than Snow Leopard.
Make sure your system meets the requirements for Lion:
Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" System Requirements
Mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon CPU
Core Duo CPUs are not sufficient for Lion
    2GB of memory (RAM)
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
To determine which Mac you have, what kind of CPU it uses, and how much memory is installed:  > About this Mac
The specified 2 GB minimum is barely adequate for either Lion or ML. They will run in 2 GB but you may not like its performance. 4 GB is a more realistic minimum.

  • How to buy mac mini from USA

HI, there, I want to buy a Mac mini from USA but I'm in New Zealand. The price here is so crazy!!! Is it possible to order one from apple store in USA and ask them to post it? How to do that? Cheers

There are some things to know about buying things in the US. The prices do not include sales taxes. There is no standard federal sales tax, it differs from state to state and large city to large city and can be between 6 to 10+%.
If you buy from Apple you will always pay sales tax. If you find an online 3rd party Apple reseller, you may pay as much as US$20 to 30 less for the product, but many also do not charge sales tax and if you buy enough, offer free shipping within the US. I have friends in Dallas, so I buy things in the US there. For example, if I had purchased my Mac mini from an Apple Store in Dallas it would have been US$499 plus US$41.00 sales tax (8.25%). (It would have been the same cost from Apple Online, but sometimes they charge for shipping, sometimes they do not.) However, I ordered it from Other World Computing for US$479.00 with no sales tax and free shipping to Dallas. So I saved US$61.00.
However, as mentioned, shipping to NZ and paying customs' duty fees may not save you anything over buying it there.

    Hi Everybody,
I am doing this first time so need some help
Q1. I need to Upgrade Target Agent from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 manually and can't seem to find the right patch I need.
I tried p3731593, but this seems to be installing much more than what I need so I cancelled it
One option I thought of was to uninstall 10203 agent and install 10204 in the same agent home But I was wondering if there is a way I can upgrade my agent.
Q2. Does the agent version on target and host(OMS) need to be same or can I have Target Agent 10.2.0.4 and host agent 10.2.0.3?
    Thanks for helping in advance

    Hi Jeet,
You can use Patch 3822442 to upgrade the agent.
The agent can be of different version.

  • How to upgrade Mac mini server Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

Trying to upgrade Mac mini server running Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I downloaded Mountain Lion and about to install but a warning prompt tells me server functionality will be lost until server.app is applied. What is involved in doing that?

What's involved?  Buy and load OS X Server; that's now a Mac App Store app.
    That'll get you Server.app.
Server.app is the GUI tool that is used to manage recent versions of OS X Server, along with (increasingly) the command line management of the features that are not exposed through the Server.app tool.

  • How to upgrade to mavericks from leopard?

I've already purchased the necessary upgrades for my other macs with multiple licensing so thats not the issue.
Recently I needed to use a third macbook for work but didn't want to drag along my best MBPro into such harsh conditions, so I decided to take my old macbook out of retirement, but because I don't have an app store on it I'm surprized how difficult it is to do something that should've been so simple.

There have been lots of different MacBooks. If yours is an older PPC (G4 orG5) Mac you cannot upgrade any further. If it is an Intel Mac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

How do I upgrade a MacBook Pro from OS 10.5 (Leopard) to Mountain Lion?  Do I need to upgrade in stages, i.e. to Snow Leopard, then to Lion, then to Mountain Lion, or can it be a more direct route?
    R.

    Hi Richard,
You need at least 10.6.6 installed to get & use the App store for purchase & download, & just read that Lion/10.7 is no longer available!???
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
It's been reported that if you have a MobileMe account, it may be free from Apple.
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
    • MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
    • MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
    • iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
    • MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
    • Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
    • Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
    • XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
    • Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
    • Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
    • MacBook models released prior to 2008
    • Mac Mini released prior to 2007
    • iMac models released prior to 2007
    • Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. Hi Hlee,
    You ahve two option
    01. If you have oracle support ID then you can download upgrade patchset for 10.2.0.1.00 and upgrade it to 10.2.x. But I think you dont ahve Oracle support ID and also work is more
    02. Download Oracle 11g Rel2 and then install it. Then you can install Apex 4.0.2 version on to that db.
